i live in florida, you really dont want to be on the roads from sunday night on..

avoid if possible

he's leaving Friday or Saturday. My issue would be gas availability along his route and road conditions.

@Pierrelucas, where you driving to? You don't want to end up following the storm as it leaves Florida and moves up the East coast of the US.

You believe it will be unsafe to drive from Florida on the 6-7?

Considering that you plan to depart from Charlotte on the 9th, I would worry less about FL, and keep my eyes on the storm track, potential flooding in GA and SC, and any associated highway, bridge, and road closures. Take your time now to study maps and identify alternate routes that you can take from Orlando to Charlotte.

I've been up and down the coast after hurricanes and large storms, and the SC washouts and road closures were difficult.

Some of the gas stations here were already out of gas yesterday. It isn't supposed to be a factor until Tuesday morning so there's time to get lots of trucks in to refill. My wife couldn't even get into the grocery store parking lot yesterday Bottled water was gone by 2:00pm. I'm pretty sure the Publix trucks will be delivering as usual up until Monday night.

I just filled up at a station about 2 miles east of World Drive on 192 and they indicated they were out of all but the most premium grade.

Driving to Charlotte...
But I might stay in the Orlando area

If the only reason you are driving up to Charlotte is to catch your flight back to France, I'd contact your airlines to check on changing your flight back home to depart from Orlando. That way you don't have to worry about gas shortages and road conditions along your route. If the storm, after making landfall in Florida, goes up the center of the state or near the East coast through Georgia and the Carolinas, you'll be following its path.

Expect some delays as it will take several days for operations at the Orlando airport to get back to normal. Airlines will need to bring in planes and crew once the airport reopens. The later you can book your flight to leave, the better.

Good luck. A few more days at Disney is always a pleasure.

They've got a nice grill, if needed. As do I. I just want a warm shower.
You need to store some water (I fill up 100 gallons worth of water jugs prior to any approaching storm) and then pour the water into a dark colored 5 gallon bucket in direct sun. After a short time the water is plenty warm for a shower with this device:

We're in Polk City and my wife was checking out gas stations in Winter Haven near her work. We still need to get to the grocery store just for normal shopping. Probably have to try all weekend. :(

it does look like it,the forcast changed back to a cat 4 today in central fla..
yesterday they had it listed as furry cat 1 i think
I'm still seeing a Cat 1 by the time it gets here. Nobody will know anything for another 24+ hours. I'm not going anyplace so it's academic for me.

Has anyone seen anything about a follow up hurricane behind it? These big ones usually have smaller ones that trail them out of the ocean, right?
