I have not seen it used since being here in '04. When I evacuated during Irma, it was not used then either. I think they do not do it due to moving equipment and supplies. They do open the shoulders for travel though.Do you guys in FL do contraflow? I seem to recall they ruled that out some time ago.
There will be gas shortages in the state. If you haven't, download an app that shows where supplies are....don't want to waste gas hunting for gas.
We use the gas buddy app and it is great. Real time stations that have power and gas.
Cat 4 is a mammoth, and its growing in size so those outer bands will stretch far.I don’t like the way this storms looking at all...
It’s not very well organized at all...if it tightens up and starts to whip it could be a mammoth
There is a opening on the south side from dry air. Once that closes, they expect intensification.I don’t like the way this storms looking at all...

The interstates are also not designed or set up for contraflow.

They are Costco members? You can order on line for same day delivery.
What you want..
Full gas tank
Water - gallon per person per day
Sports drinks - will be hot & humid, especially without A/C
Non perishable food & snacks - bread, peanut butter, dry cereal, protein snack bars, canned soups, etc. I also buy the small packs (individual serving size) of shelf milk and kids juice packs
Manual can opener
Charcoal - if they have a grill - they can cook & heat water on it. Buy a cheap tea kettle to boil water
Baby wipes - great for cleaning yourself if public water supply becomes an issue
First aid supplies - bandaids, gauze pads, alcohol, antibiotic & anti-itch cream, BUG SPRAY
Flashlights and batteries
Charging batteries - I keep them plugged in until you loose power
battery operated emergency radio
Several days of clean loose, lightweight clothes (do laundry now)
CASH - several hundred dollars - power means no ATMs and credit cards won't be accepted Don't forget to have some smaller bills and change, as many times you will not be able to get any change. I have a shoebox of $1s in my closet just for this purpose - I donate anything left to charity and start over again in January by saving any $1 I get in change. I save loose change in a jar - it came in handy when I found an open laundromat.
Freeze gallon bottles of water to use to keep items in fridge, freezer cold I fill a separate cooler with water, gatorade, etc so people don't keep opening the refrigerator. I seal both the refrigerator and freezer with duct tape so we think twice about opening it. I freeze smaller (1 qt) containers. Both the larger and smaller ones can be used for drinking/cooking water when thawed. I have a generator, so can refreeze them. But I only run it during the day - at night I run a window A/C and fans.
Turn both freezer and fridge to their coldest settings
Put important papers in zip lock bags and a place where you can access them
I also clean my tub out with bleach and fill it with water - can be used to flush toilets. I
Move anything that can become airborne inside or in protected area.
Don't tape your windows...that's useless
from what I read, by midnight the night before.Trying to determine our drop dead date on deciding to bail on our package reservation. Supposed to check in Sunday. I know I will sit on the phone forever regardless of when I call, but does anyone know when Disney stops being willing to reschedule? I assume calling Sunday would be the same as no-showing by policy unless the hurricane warning is declared.
Governor will shortly declare state of emergency in all 67 counties. No word yet on mandatory evacuations.
Don't forget the Damp Rid, and a lightly scented spray you can spray on your sheets - they will start smelling musty,. I like to use solid air fresheners to put around the house - again, things will start smelling more than usual.
You also need wipes for counters, etc. Things will start feeling damp and sticky after a couple of days.
I have heavy duty boots, and foul weather gear. Plus tarps and nails, etc.
He did yesterday
