Why should we care what the vast, vast majority of customers experience?

Your question is so silly it doesn't even deserve an answer. The parks aren't made for us, buddy, they are made for the public. It's nothing but entitled super-fan-lifestyler nonsense.

They absolutely are. Disney catering to the general public's demands are why we have trash like Frozen Ever After and Guardians of the Galaxy polluting once great parks. Or any kind of new experience tied to an IP because precious Princess Susie will have meltdown because she can't fawn over her favorite princess. The desire to cater to the general public, who have a total lack of taste for ANYTHING, is why the parks are the way they are. And my hatred for the GP isn't limited to Disney Parks either, they're a blight to almost everything

The parks are designed to cater for tweens and kids aged 8-14, with families of middle upper class income. A couple of hours of marketing research on a Friday Afternoon with a team of thousands came up with this formula to drive a multi billion dollar entertainment division of a major media company.

True however Disney became Disney for creating things we wanted beforte we knew we wanted them. A truly creative enterprise as it were.

Now it seems that marketing analyzes the spaghetti thrown on the wall and decides which is the most popular BRAND to push the antithesis of creative, Disney of late is becoming 'Disney in BRAND' only

If that was true, Disney would collapse under its own weight. There is no way that WDW could operate four parks seven days a week all year round based on that model, because the parks would be empty while school is in session. Instead, September through Christmas is now pretty crowded based solely on adults without children or adults with pre-schoolers who are there simply because their parents want to be there.

So, thanks for making up something so demonstrably false!!

Along with the current round of layoffs, it appears we might also be seeing some major restructuring of the domestic parks leadership.

I’m not going into specifics until announced, but expect some departures and some musical chairs.
I hope the ones being shown the door are those responsible for cancelling the night parade and those responsible for reducing hours at the MK.. Those were not patron friendly decisions.

I never knew I wanted to ride a banshee. Thank goodness Disney knew I did!

Yes that is a good current example, But FEA is an example of the whats on the wall.
Don't forget -- you've got two generations now attending that never knew the concept EPCOT. They're asking the question: "Why is there a Disney park with so few Disney characters in it?"

Those observations are being fixed at Epcot, and you can bet AK is next...

Isn’t P+R already collapsing under its own weight because they’ve been doing this? TSL, NFL, SWL, Frozen, most of the In park entertainment, shows, and parades are designed to the 8-14 year old segment. Only exception are the festivals at EPCOT where TDO plays to the older crowd to sell overpriced drinks. Older guests do not spend money in as greater number as families with young children. Don’t believe me? Walk into any merch shop and see what is promently displayed...toys and children’s things.

Sorry, don't believe any of this fevered nonsense. You went from claiming they did research and this is the result. Now you point to a handful of stuff enjoyed by people of all ages and you're only argument is: "SEEE??!!"

Nope.

If you don't like what the parks have to offer, sorry. It's not likely to change. So, you're going to have to make a hard decision of sucking it up or going elsewhere for your adult entertainment needs.

Just because you don’t believe something doesn’t negate its legitimacy. Rather than offering a counterpoint you just come up with inflammatory rhetoric and spout off nonsense.

I never came out against what TDO is doing, all I’m pointing out is that they have made a concerted effort to gear what they’re doing to younger audiences. Where your USO or IA or Six Flags caters to older, Disney does not. My entire point was that maybe by doing this they are boxing themselves into a corner and excluding themselves from other demographics.

Apparently that new approach did not work, and there will be a return to the Line of Business structure.
Working for a major theme park operator myself I can tell you this weird theme area level structure they crated a few years back was destined to fail. The LoB mood they ( apparently ) are returning to is just way easier to create efficiencies. The model they are removing was good for exposing leaders to all managing all areas of the operation but on the flip side of the coin you got many “jacks of all trades” but no one with a real mastery of a focused area.

There is also a book dedicated to the creation of the Haunted Mansion. Also, don’t forget the Main Street Glassblowing and other trinkets from the Na’avi, Madame Leoda, the Community of Tomorrow, collectibles from the greatest films in the Galaxy, and beyond! :)
