I'm a bit of an outlier here since I think Worlds End (III) may be my favorite... it's got an awesome score and felt very operatic to me. It looked amazing, visually. Storywise, I think IV was hurt by my making Jack Sparrow the central character in the plot, whereas the original trilogy was really the story of Will and Elizabeth. Sparrow works better as a secondary character (e.g. Han Solo in Star Wars).

While I firmly believe that 1 was by far and away the best movie of the POTC franchise, I tend to agree with this sentiment of your otherwise. I liked 2 and 3 well enough -- they were entertaining and engaging even if they weren't the high point of cinema. The focus being on Will and Elizabeth made them more interesting than a film centered on Jack. I found 4 to be kinda annoying to watch (I don't think I've ever re-watched it due to my lack of enjoyment).

Same here. I didn't really care much for 2 and 3, so I thought it was the best one since the original.

Plus Ian McShane (Blackbeard) was a pretty good villain. He's no Barbosa, but he was good.
I definitely disagree. He is literally bad because he says he's bad. There was very poor character development there. Say what you want about Pirates 3, but Davy Jones has an explanation and true character development.

That film was endless and didn't make a damn bit of sense.

Did I mention it was endless?

Killed the franchise entirely for me.
I enjoyed all three of the "first trilogy", but missed the 4th in the theater. I fell asleep - twice - trying to watch it on blue-ray. I may have to try again; third time's the charm - right?

Hmm, I guess I'm the only thought that found the fourth one the weakest. I found the missionary and mermaid characters to be endlessly annoying (their innocence seemed weirdly out of place in a pirate movie). And I thought the constant innuendos seemed liked desperate grabs for the audience's interest.

All in all, the innuendos along with the zombies, anachronistic "romantic" guitar music, and 3D jump scares kind of just made On Stranger Tides feel really... gimmicky, I guess? It lacked the brains or cleverness of the first three movies.

You are not alone. I thought the 4th was the weakest. Seemed more like one long Johnny Depp made for TV episode rather than a movie. Overall it was the least memorable for me. I can usually tell how much I enjoy a movie by how much of the movie I actually remember.
