Major 2015 Pirates of the Caribbean Refurbishment Watch/Rumor.

How are you guys seeing this? I went on MDE app yesterday to try to book a fastpass and it's still saying it's closed. Either way, if I have to wait in line, I don't care. I honestly couldn't care less about the issues. Going to Disney world and Not riding pirates is like going and not seeing mickey.

I never "saw" it. Was replying off the same message. I'm not seeing it either. No FP+ are coming up for me between May 11-18. So, I have not idea where those dates came from.

So they announced a while back that there was a new merchandise line for Pirates coming "later this year" (a la Haunted Mansion to whatever degree). Does anyone know if this rollout is going to coincide with the reopening post-refurb? Would make the most sense, but doesn't follow that they WILL do it that way....

People who are happy that a ride will be running in poor condition will get the experience they deserve. As somebody who visits Disneyland often the condition of our version of the ride is sad in comparison. I leave it disappointed each time at the poor show condition. Animatronics barely moving, bad lighting, sub par sound, and that doesn't even include the behind the scenes things that we don't even know about. Anyone who gets to ride the ride during this extra month shouldn't be celebrating, they should be preparing for disappointment.

Exactly.

Just like the Hub refurb coming up on it's 1.5 year anniversary, there is no accountability these days for poor "Show" at the resort. The standard has slipped so far that people would rather have a construction zone for 1.5 years of guests (let's say 27 million) than have a much smaller sample size miss out on parades and castle shows.

People would rather experience Pirates with broken AA's, missing projections, bad lighting, poor audio quality, and a boat that wasn't designed for that specific attraction that is flooding guests than miss it.

Maybe TDO is right, guests to the resort just don't care anymore?

We are taking my niece on her first visit to WDW starting on 06/05. I was initially happy for her that Pirates was going to be closed as my last ride on Pirates in January was so abysmal, I refused to ride it again in the 9 days we were on property. We took my niece to her first Disney Parks visit last summer with a trip to DLR. Now, I'm going to use her as a curious barometer of the differences between WDW and DLR with Pirates as an example since it was one of her favorites in Anaheim.

Instead of celebrating the ride being opened longer, we should be angry that the refurb wasn't extended further.

Less is never more when it comes to refurbs.

When it comes to the tweaks and twerks needed for PotC, I am all out of craps to give. I am delighted it will get some love over the summer -hopefully all the love it needs. As for the dodgy AAs or whatever other horrors await, I suppose I will just have to be brave and carry on knowing not every **** is polished nor every bell and whistle perfectly tuned. Such is life.

I consider it a bonus that I will get to have a middle of the road experience on PotC instead of walking by a "Sorry folks, we're closed" sign a dozen times during the week I am there. Those who can't bear anything but the best, I will be happy to compare notes with you because, Lord willing, I will surely be riding it after the refurbishments are done too.
Then go to Six Flags, your Fun Spot, or a state fair.
If Disney is asking for over $100 a head to go to the Magic Kingdom, there is no excuse for a classic/iconic attraction that has TERRIBLE show and lacking safety.

I'm of the mind that if it's open I would want to ride. In late 2013, I arrived just before PPF was due for a major refurb. Did I want to ride? You bet. Hadn't been it in more than 20 years.

So now POTC is now going to be open while I'm at WDW this May 12-18. Should I just hate on it out of spite? No, it's an opportunity for me to ride again for nostalgia reasons knowing that the needed refurb was delayed.

No one says you have to, though. If you don't want to then that's your decision but please don't deride those who do (like saying guest standards have declined). You can't read their minds.

When do you think they'll make the fast passes available for may 11-June 7?

Anybody's guess. My planned days in MK are May 11 and 16 where I have FPs already scheduled. Possibly even a quick hop into MK on 5/18 on my check out day as I have a breakfast ADR at Kona Cafe. Currently no FPs scheduled for 5/18.

Update: Just tried it. POTC still shows closed for refurbishment on 5/18. I made 3 FPs and will swap out one if POTC becomes available.

So a refurbishment that was compromised to the bone and cut way shorter than it needed to be to bring things up to a good show quality has now been cut even further. Great move, Disney.

Are they actively *trying* the give guests a bad experience now? It's almost like they're playing a game to see how bad they can make the park before people stop paying their dollars.

It seems incredible now to think there was a time when people looked at Universal, Six Flags and Sea World and said 'they're good, but they're no Disney', when now Disney comes up very much a poor runner up compared to its competitors, due to their policy of removing 'show' as a Disney key and running things as badly as possible.

I guess Disney fears trip cancellations, angry (stupid) tourists storming City Hall for refunds, lost sales from the gift shop and Pirate's League. Maybe they decided to just fix the upramp so that the boats can complete their circuit and keep the ride open for more than 24 hours at a time.

I'm a little confused by some of the responses. Are people suppose to not ride POC during this month delay? I understand most are not happy with the condition of the ride (as we all should be) but it seems like some are upset that folks will actually ride it if it's open. Everybody knows if there are children or first timers involved, POC will be ridden the month of May.

I don't think the question is "why are you going to ride it, it's so disappointing", the real question is "why is disney cutting the the refurb time by a month".

I like all the expert opinions on here, it's hilarious that people are suggesting that a 1 year...some even 2 year refurb is needed. What do you want them to do, bulldoze the entire building and rebuild it? There is no reason major work can't be done in 4 months, the ride is going to be closed with nothing being visible to visitors, they can work 24/7.

they COULD work 24/7... they probably wont. that costs $$$

On a side note, its rumoured that TDL is buldozing Small World and rebuilding it on the other side of Fantasyland. But there really is no comparisson between what TDL do and what the US parks and resorts do.

could it have been that the parts that were required for the beginning part of the refurd were not going to make it in time (clear customs), so they had to push back the start date?

Why would a year be extreme? Do you know the extent of the work needed or desired by WDI?

It's a big building. What if they were to drain the water and rebuild the flume, or other parts of the warehouse-like structure where the ride takes place? What if they wanted to repaint all the sets? Or modify the queue or load area? All of that would take time to do.

Just because they could work 24/7 doesn't mean they would.

That would be a logical Argument, but people jump to conclusion to fast. We all can not comment on what or how it looks until it is completed.
