Main Street U.S.A. hub redevelopment at the Magic Kingdom

The poles are a shame and do detract from the finished product.

Otherwise it's the best that could be done given the needs.
I almost never notice the poles when I'm there. I think the thought from Entertainment is that they function as stage lights would - there is a point at which you can have technical points of theater visible to the audience and they will ignore it because they're used to it. Suspension of disbelief that Brecht really pushed forward in the 40s.

Awesome, and be sure to share them here! Good luck, we're all counting on you! ;)
Sorry...there were more people there than expected and I got distracted taking pictures of my wife and daughter lol. I did get one picture looking down the bridge to Tomorrowland and it was completely empty. I thought the hub looked really good. I can't wait for the ramps to be opened so we can walk through the castle again.

Photo update as of Wednesday, Nov 4. Construction of the ramps on either side of Cinderella Castle.

The left castle ramp, with the construction scrim around Castle Couture in the background. Christmas lights were also installed on the new eft and right towers. The new ramp lights are installed.

Is anyone else less than enthused with the look of the "railings/walls" on the new castle ramps? They look rather utilitarian and bleak. I hope whatever finishing work they have left will make them look a little nicer. Did they need to make them solid for safety reasons?

They don't look at all graceful or elegant like they used to be.

I tried to go in with an open mind about the poles, but the sad truth is that they do detract as much as they look in photos. Other than that and the small trees (that you could view fireworks perfectly behind) being removed around Partners they did a good job on the hub.

I am no construction guy...but...I have a feeling that what you are seeing in between the concrete posts/pillars are temporary and will be replaced by something more elegant to go along with the rather rad lighting that has been put up. If you notice, the posts closer to the hub don't have anything in between them because there is not an immediate drop off if you were to fall through. The ones further up the ramp probably have a nice drop right there. This is probably an OSHA safety requirement.

At least that is what i am hoping...:cautious:

I hope so, to see they made them out of plywood (in Florida!) was disheartening to say the least. If they leave them solid it is a clear indication that they want no lingering on the ramps to sightsee.

They're almost certainly temporary, I wouldn't expect the wood to remain.

That was some quick progress.

The railings I believe are temporary. I'm thinking they couldn't measure for them until the ramps were put together and they need to get the ramps open for the holidays so they went the temporary route. I expect the plywood boxes to be replaced with something nicer in a few weeks to a month.

Okay, major additional points to the hub for the new turrets having Dream Lights on them. Dang. View attachment 117807Photo: olmec26 on Twitter
I'll withhold final judgement until I see them in person, but from this photo at least, I wish just the castle had the lights on it. Having the other turrets so far away from the castle lit up like that takes away from the prominence of the castle and makes the turrets seem even more disconnected from it (due to all the black space between). But again, I haven't seen it in person yet.

I do, however, hate how they look during the day. The normal castle lights are pretty invisible during the day because they're so far away. But, the ones on the new turrets are right in your face, so it's obvious to even a casual observer that there are nets of lights on them. To me, the whole point of the netting was to be invisible except when lit.

I agree about how they look during the day, especially the lights that cover the banners on the turrets. I expected them to paint the lights purple like they do for the lights that cover all of the blue spires.
