I'd agree if the changes just started happening yesterday, but, you know as well as I do that the way things are now have evolved over years. That mentality started in the 90's and is still evolving. I don't necessarily like what is happening, but, I do recognize that it is and it is clearly linked and influenced by society. Just to be fair, I don't like how society has evolved either, but, one adapts or dies a death of exclusion.
Society never dictated that Disney should continue to follow business model changes instituted by a man whose career has crashed and burned in a most spectacular fashion.

why I have a feeling that TWDC will replace all trees with scrims of trees?
:hilarious:

reminds me of that sad image of crew members destroying trees.
so they could put a treehugging kid ad asking people to donate to save the trees!

You mean like Enron/Worldcom and their love for WallStreet quick bucks and shady practices?
Or the recent Wall Street sponsored housing bust? :hilarious:

Photo update as of Wednesday, May 13. Behind the construction walls on both sides of the Castle there is a large concrete form for a substantial structure. This photo is from the left side of the Castle, between the two bridges to Liberty Square.

The structure on the right side of the Castle is not as far along, on the left side of the below photo (previously the Rose Garden).

Oh boy.. guess the hub will still be a mess when I go in July given the looks of that scene and the glacial pace of everything they do.

Not everything is Enron. That was anything but business as usual. Housing and Theme Parks are not exactly the same thing.
no, but they are fine examples of what corporate greed can do.
Shake entire economies and leave thousands of thousands of unemployed.
All while the guys who did the whole thing.. walk away to enjoy their clearly illegal billions in some caribbean island.

The way people talk on this thread it's like they go to Magic Kingdom to see the trees.

Hey there's Mickey!
Ahh for get him, check out that Birch tree
Dude, forget that birch, Those Maple trees are awesome, Just check out those branches.

There are lots of folks who go to the Magic Kingdom because it is a theme PARK. Parks have trees. They add beauty, shade, character, class, a sense of perspective. All things that the MK used to be known for, and most other Disney parks are known for.

I honestly don't get your perspective? Who doesn't like trees? Who doesn't like shade in the blistering Florida sun? Or, to put it another way, is there anyone who actually prefers large swaths of hot pavement?

Obviously the trees have their place but this thread tends to overlook that the trees that were there are being replaced, what has been replaced looks great and there are more trees to come. Additionally Many overlook the fact that the park wasn't built to have 18 million+ visitors a year so disney was left with the decision to either limit the number of visitors or expand and modify the park to accommodate the larger crowds. Disney choose to expand for monetary reasons but also to give guests a better experience. If you think about it, how many vacations would be ruined if Magic kingdom closed the gates at 11am every day and didn't reopen them to additional guests due to reaching capacity?

Because.. you know.. they could build more around to spread the crowds.. ;)

I am sure the trees were reduced to open the sight lines for a new Fireworks show...
We were surprised when we were at Disneyland a couple years ago and could not seem to find a place to watch the fireworks show that did not have limited or horrible sight lines because of the large trees...And by that, I mean the premium spots were staked out long before the actual fireworks (hours).
So...opening up the hub may make for a better guest experience all around... it's early to tell... But aside from the fireworks and show, who really spends any time at the hub hanging out?

The increased capacity is the attraction... in Disney's mind. Watch as the genius that is Disney's marketing team turns this hub project on its side and advertises it as a "must see".
and will have earned every penny of their salary should there be an increase of foot traffic over the last year...
