The way people talk on this thread it's like they go to Magic Kingdom to see the trees.

Hey there's Mickey!
Ahh for get him, check out that Birch tree
Dude, forget that birch, Those Maple trees are awesome, Just check out those branches.
You're literally missing the forest for the trees.

Mourning the loss of the trees is mourning the loss of beauty and thematics.

Because.. you know.. they could build more around to spread the crowds.. ;)

Isn't that exactly what they are trying to do by adding nighttime entertainment and shows at AK and adding Frozen and fireworks to HS? The nighttime crowding problem isn't due to anything missing or wrong at MK itself but because everyone leaves AK and HS and heads to MK and Epcot for nighttime entertainment. No matter what they build at MK cramming 4 parks worth of people in 2 parks will always cause crowding issues.

The beauty of trees is they can be easily replaced if Disney can ever spread the crowds out. The downfall of trees is they can be easily replaced so it isn't a huge money commitment to tear them out on a whim.

Now for the plethora of new attractions to go with the increased capacity...

First Pandora/DAK build out, then Star Wars at DHS and more toons in WS and then maybe MK can handle the crowds. I am expecting that around 2021. Just a guess though.

....other parks are going to help MK. Yeah, this makes no sense.
Eh, it makes sense but I don't see disney in any rush to do it. If people had a reason to go to DHS outside of five weekends of summer and two months at Christmas, there would be fewer guests at MK. Epcot and DAK (especially going forward at DAK) are better at holding their own.

yes... it took them a few years to finally noticed that :D

and they start by closing a carpload of DHS... putting even more load into Magic Kingdom which is building as well.

There are lots of folks who go to the Magic Kingdom because it is a theme PARK. Parks have trees. They add beauty, shade, character, class, a sense of perspective. All things that the MK used to be known for, and most other Disney parks are known for.

I honestly don't get your perspective? Who doesn't like trees? Who doesn't like shade in the blistering Florida sun? Or, to put it another way, is there anyone who actually prefers large swaths of hot pavement?

I guess the Uni vs. Disney crowd is sitting this one out. Where's the outcry for all of the trees that Universal has leveled through the years?.....Oh, that's right, only the Magic Kingdom is lacking shade.

Closing the backlot tour really did not force anymore guest anywhere. Has HS ever been shut down due to capacity? Even with the events they do?

JT, I feel like you've been predicting nirvana at WDW since about 2004. Although your expected end date keeps getting later.

I had a very vivid dream that Disney replaced Pleasure Island and built out DTD. Then I dreamed that DAK rececived an infusion of cash to make it a true all day park and that they even went to the trouble of relocating FotLK. Then I dreamed that they decided to also add the most ambitious land ever to DAK with a budget similar to Carsland. Then I dreamed the mouse bought Lucasfilm and even announced they would be adding Star Wars attractions to the parks. Then I dreamed that they decided to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on infrastructure to modernize neglected facilities from the past and refurbish and expand attractions.

Thanks for reminding me it was all a dream although it seemed quite real.

Given the time frame with all those projects, are you sure it wasn't a coma?
