Although it would be nice to have retractable parade lighting, I really don't think it's necessary in the hub. Disneyland's hub lights have been visible for years and nobody complains about them (and DLR's APers love to complain about everything). But when you're not looking at photos of them, they blend into the background and go unnoticed. Most people strolling through MK's hub won't be looking at the parade light towers, but at the castle, nearby buildings, and the new brown walkway lights
The light towers in DL also stick up above the trees, since they also have small trees in their hub; they just look bigger compared to the park's scale
Even when they're in the frame with the castle, the lights are easy to overlook
Even along Matterhorn Way, the lighting rigs are visible all day (just to the left of the last flag)
And if you want parade lights that are actually large and obtrusive, you still need to look no further than DL, where these structures are large enough to have their own refurbishment towers built around them
The retractable lights on the roofs of Main Street are great (though the changes to the tops of the buildings leaves something to be desired) but the rest of the parade route has very visible lighting. It seems like some people here think that only WDW makes these sorts of decisions, but it's really standard practice (TDL doesn't have parade route lights, since they only run Dreamlights after dark)
