Main Street U.S.A. hub redevelopment at the Magic Kingdom

Andrew C

You know what's funny?
My eyes and what the actual project entails. There is no plan in this project to change the red walkways along MSUSA. Even the tans they've put in are different shades. Disney is no longer capable of matching colors. Shall we just use the excuse that they have sunshine in FL?

I will hold my judgment on the colors until I see the finished projects.

OK, that's an issue. The new areas look great, but they'll look out of place clashed against the old reds. Ugh.
The various shading to the tan should all end up the same color as everything cures. The entire hub and all the pathways around it will end up tan, with the road staying black, like it looks in the animated flyover. Main Street is not a part of the project. It will all look good when finished. There is still a ways to go. :)

I hope you're right!

Shame that MSUSA isn't part of this thing.

I'm sure they'll steam clean the astro turf similar to the streets every night/as needed. When it fails, they made it only in small sections so it'll be easier to replace. Probably doesn't even have any seams from the sizes they went with.

While I like the look of the new tan concrete, looking at it now, I'm a little worried that it's too bright. The sun is going to reflect off of that light color, making pictures look not as good and making guests squint more. Like being on a white sand beach.

I noticed that the other day, it's not quite bright enough to make you squint, but there is definitely a lot of light reflecting off the ground.

I think it's a trade off. Lighter colors will reflect more light back, but darker pavement absorbs and radiates back more heat. Between the two, I'll take a little extra glare as I tend to get ankle and shin rashes from the heat cooking my legs. I can always put on sunglasses or lotion (as I always do in Florida.)

So the rails on the faux bridge, are those permanent? Or are they gonna change them out for the detailed rails that went around the rest of the area?

I believe the temporary railing on the bridge are just there to keep OSHA happy, since it is still a construction zone and guests are not allowed in that area. In the pic below, you can see the permanent railing in the top right. It is a brass color instead of the old green. These new railing look very good in my opinion as I have seen them in person recently. I would assume that as soon as the new railing are ready to be installed then wooden ones will come down.

A comparison to where we're at (2/20) to where we're supposed to go...

Thanks for the Comparison of SK's flyover view vs the plan.

A couple of things.

It appears that the center hub is losing its 4 planter beds based on the new red concrete that has been poured... yet the concept art clearly shows the planter beds will remain, but maybe reduced in size. Any reason why the discrepancy? Will the center hub be 100% without landscaping?

(Edit: Sorry for the question above.... I see now it's been answered that the removal of the beds is only temporary... but I question the wisdom of this extra work and material just for additional, albeit temporary viewing space while the rest of the hub is in transition. Just do the work once and disrupt the visitors less.)

Is the red concrete officially being phased out over the length of the refurb?

It's been stated that the new red concrete where the planters were is temporary while they work on the rest of the hub. The planter will go back where it was.

To me, the fact that they paved over the planters is just a temporary thing. This will allow foot traffic as they complete the project. When they are ready to complete the inner hub, they will tear out the concrete to the finished size and make the planters.

Those planters were filled in for additional Wishes viewing for the time being (until the extra Wishes viewing sites open). Then they will build new planters.

As was stated, the hub will get the tan walkways while Main Street itself will keep its red walkways.
