Main Street U.S.A. hub redevelopment at the Magic Kingdom

I completely understand why this project was needed. And I think it will look fantastic when complete and will definitely help with crowd control and flow. Just hope that they get it done quickly and that the landscaping looks nice. The water will still look good around the hub, if a bit reduced.

A endless expanse of hot concrete and asphalt to park strollers on in place of trees and benches, A net loss I think.

Based on everything Disney has shown us there WILL be trees and seating areas. As well as new fountains. It should look really nice and also ease congestion quite a bit.

And you keep saying this is to see the castle better, but that's actually not exactly right. The point is for the inner ring to be a viewing area for that stuff and block views of the castle with trees in the outer ring to make that more of a walk way.

This move is all about easing congestion in the hub, nothing to do with allowing people to see the castle better.

Erm, No it has EVERYTHING with allowing people to see the castle better especially since the castle is now a projection screen there is NOTHING in the hub which will interfere with castle sightlines.

I want to like this "expansion." There's no doubt it was sorely needed. I'll reserve final judgement for when it's done... So far, it shows promise. I hope Disney brings in enough trees and landscaping - and lets it mature a bit. Though I suspect they'll keep it to a minimum/small so that the view of the castle, shows, fireworks, etc. isn't obstructed.

Easy to say right now, but it just looks like an expanse of hot asphalt and stroller parking in the making. I'll miss the old moat and rolling grass, trees and gardens. Let's hope some of the magic of NFL rubs off on the hub project.

EDIT: Well, that didn't come across too conflicted. :p

Is there really going to be a stroller parking area in the hub? I thought the point of this was to help with crowd flow and provide more premium/reserved fireworks viewing areas. I don't remember seeing stroller parking in the pictures posted a while back, but I haven't been following this too closely. When did the plans change? Does anyone have any updated pictures/links?

I completely understand why this is necessary. 21st century crowds are just not what populated MK in the 70s. MK was designed for families, not really for all the people that are there now with huge groups and stay for weeks at a time, all of which are standing in one spot with cell phone cameras blocking traffic... Back when MK was built this just wasn't the case. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe they even had nightly fireworks shows when the park first opened. The crowds of today are just too heavy compared to the original design of the hub, so where as many of us will miss the original (look), this really is necessary not only for maximizing space for event viewing (parades, fireworks, projections..) but most importantly for the safety of the guests.

Look at the hub now - during show/wishes it's a stroller parking lot.
