Magical Dreams really all that random?

So just because my husband and I don't have children we should be excluded from prizes????:brick:

I agree my wife and i feel that we will not get picked for any big prizes because we do not have kids. We are the kids. I realy feel this whole Year of a million dreams is a joke we are going on our third trip and know of many others that have gone multiple times and have not gotten anything or seen any one be granted something. We were at the Flower and garden fest. and some one was handing out seed packs and my wife said to the guy next to us must be a YOAMD, and we all laughed:ROFLOL:

I was going to say the same thing.
Selection criteria for dream squad given YOAMD prizes are based solely on any persons location at a particular time. At no time does race, age, party size, gender ever enter into the equation. The dream squad will get instructions like At 8:15 PM award prize 68421 to the guest in row 4 seat 3 on simulator 4 at Star Tours. Can you imagine the PR nightmare Disney would face if there was even the slightest possibility of any form of discrimination in their selection process?

I have had the pleasure of running into 2 separate groups (neither were families) that won the stay in the castle. One was selected at DTD simply for being the first person to sit on a particular bench after a certain time and the other was in the correct seat on Star Tours.

The only time "family" enters into the equation at all is if a minor wins a prize the parents or legal guardian must approve.

back in april when we went, we were in animal kingdom and my son wanted to go to asia, which was not on my list (i had my list of things we were going to do and even approx times), but as it was my son's birthday we went to asia. we went into a walk thru trail (sorry but i can not remember the name).
You were at AK and Asia wasn't on your "list"? No Kali? No Everest? :veryconfu

exactly .some people long for a lawsuit, especially if it involves a large corporation with lots of money.disney is a very careful company when it comes to pc.

Exactly. Being that this promotion has been going on for quite some time now, and we have not heard the first whisper of a discrimination suit I think it is safe to assume that the selection is completely random as it has been reported to be by Disney from the beginning.

I don't mind a good conspiracy theory now and then but the one that has been circulating about YOAMD is just unfounded.

I don't understand the logic of the OP that because they have children they are more entitled to a Magical Moment than someone without children.

We are leaving for our trip next week that will be celebrating our 5th Anniversary, and my mom will be coming with us also, and it will be her first trip. I'm not sure how this trip for us will be less valid or less "magical" and worthy because we have not decided to pro-create.

Wasn't Walt's vision for the parks to be a place where people of all ages can play together?

I know it's OT, but I just wanted to congratulate you on being a great parent at this moment. I'm sure a lot of folks would have said "tough luck, I've got a plan". And of course maybe that's OK; every situation is different. But it warmed my heart to read that part of your story!

I don't have the actual numbers, but my guess would be that 60-75% of the visitors are families of three or more. So it would only figure that they have a good chance of being selected.

If you want "profiling" go to Hoop de do....there they clearly look for certain attributes for the specific roles...otherwise, just enjoy yourself.

I was awarded a CM magical moment at the locker rental in a park. I was in line and a CM approached me and started chatting. After a bit, he gave me a challenge to pick a number between 100 and 200, if I got it right within 50, he'd give me a free locker for the day!

We were awarded the exact same thing - at MK - the CM asked to guess what number locker key he had in his hand - he then gave us a clue.... it was between 149 and 151 !!! ( can't remember exact numbers before somebody jumps and says - 'there is no locker number 150'!!) and he gave us it for free.

I was in WDW for almost 3 weeks in July and never once saw the YoaMD teams ... I would have been excited just to see them.

Sorry for the hijack but can you give me a hint as to what they look for or do you just want to wait and possibly hear some embarrassing stories about me on 10/1?

Well, let me put it this way....
I hope you look good in either a Tutu or a loincloth and feather...
...and if it happens to be the loincloth...keep your hands strategically positioned as if you were defending a penalty kick in soccer...

I'll give you the details Oct. 1

She then proceeded to give them a certificate and a limo pulled up to take them to the airport. I was very surprised that she did not give the "magical dream" to one of the families. Both families had small children and would have not only appreciated the fact of not getting on a bus again but the kids would have gone crazy with excitement.
So? Who cares? Don't you think that Disney goes far enough out of the way for children? My wife and I are going down in December for her birthday and I am happy to know that we have just as good a chance to win something as a family with small children.

Does anyone get mad when you see a little two year old wearing a Dream Fastpass, which probably nearly all the rides he or she cannot go on because their too small?

I mean, I know it's only fair, and part of the rules, but still.... I guess I'm just annoyed that I haven't won anything yet.

I agree - i personally can't imagine the CM's giving me and my partner an opportunity to stay in the castle for the night........

Although, i must add we were once the "chosen one" whilst we were on Star Tours - got given a fast pass thing.

There are certain locations they pass things out at certain times for certain reasons. They change these locations pretty often. Sometimes that pass out things just because people are there. Sometimes they may be looking for someone with a birthday. Who knows, it changes, but it is completely random who they choose.

Considering the number of perfect families of 4 in which the son is usually in the 12-15 range and the daughter is the youngest like 6-11 that i've seen being escorted around by the dream squad.. i sincerely doubt the "randomness" of the prize giveaways.

I actually agree with Merf on this one. I spend quite a bit of time in the parks, and merf obviously does as well. I have noticed the same thing. I don't expect anyone to give me anything, I've just noticed the same things merf has.

I have to disagree with Mr Craftsman - I visited in December last year with my wife and we were approached whilst queing to get into MGM to open the park and we were given a dream fastpass - no kids involved!!

I think (and hope) that it's all random!! Going to DLR next week, lets hope it's random there too!!!

Especially if your seats are on the front half of main floor of the room.

Be afraid, be very afraid. Also increased potential if you are travelling with your normal larger group!

Oh....
back to the thread....

YOAMD is a nice plus and fair....
back to the fray :zipit:

You know you can ruin your vacation if you worry about getting the prizes. When I am there I am just thrilled that I am in the happiest place on earth and wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
