Magic Kingdom Tree Massacre

This is similar to how they have removed the curbs to make walking in the area more practical.

Actually, 2 reasons for this:

1 - easier for wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers

2 - and more importantly, fewer threats of lawsuits due to accidents and people tripping or twisting ankles, etc.

I don't really care how you feel about Wishes viewing, there is NO excuse for the Tomorrowland/Contemporary visual intrusion into Liberty Square.

None whatsoever.

Like the way you can see Frontierland from Liberty Square? Or how you can see Fantasyland's Teacups from Tomorrowland?

Why is the ability to see what is ahead when you are walking toward the bridge out of Liberty Square such a big deal?

Does that really compromise your park experience? It doesn't bother me at all. I can't say I've even noticed it.

Like I said practical reasons won out over theming. Disneyland still has their curbs fortunately they still treat at least that park like a theme park.

As the 4 Disney quality standards or keys state, safety wins over show everytime - it's part of the Disney heritage, always has been.

Well it's not as simple as that. If they took out everything that had any safety risk at all they would just close the parks altogether. A curb is an everyday obstacle even in the real world so you can assume that people should be able to handle it.

You know, you can see a large fairytale Castle on Main Street, too, right?;)

:lookaroun:lol:

Things like that are meant to overlap. It's inevitable.

I don't think its really just the Tomorrowland aspect which everyone is jumping on. It's the fact that you see a modern hotel from LS. That's just horrible. You can also see it in TL. They need to just block the view of that entire hotel.

You make it sound like seeing the Contemporary is a bad thing from TL. You are supposed to see it from there!

I have officially lost faith in all of humanity. Somebody is complaining about the removal of curbs as a sign that the Magic Kingdom is no longer a theme park.

That's not what I said. I said that taking out all of the small things like that, the details that make it a theme park would eventually lead to the end result of the park no longer having theming. That fact that you have you have to spell things out so clearly to people is what is making me lose faith in humanity.:brick:

I know! I was thinking the exact same thing!

When I'm in my 90's, MK will be a Six Flags. I'm convinced.

You're supposed to like EE said.

Contemporary was built to mirror TLand just like Grand Floridian was built to mirror Main Street, Polynesian and Adventureland and Ft Wilderness Frontierland. Fantasyland and Libety Square's never got built- YET. :)

It's ok, I'll still go ahead and call the Whambulance for you.

By the way, I went for a nice stroll through Epcot today, and it sure was nice to hear some wonderful Gospel music instead of having a seizure due to some lights.

Don't worry I've learned to appreciate WDW for what it is, I no longer have an expectation of quality.

I'm glad you enjoy the dumbed down version of WDW, to each his own.

Seriously? You're complaining over lights, and now the whole resort is lacking quality? Man, you make complete sense.

I don't see how the trees messed up the perspective when they were pruned over the years to a consistent height, and make the castle look larger because it appears farther away, rather then plopped right down at the end of main street.

Perhaps management was considering a Magic Kingdom wand because guests couldn't find the bottom 1/4 of the castle hidden by the hub trees and they panicked and thought they were at sea world. So instead of spending money to build a wand, they chopped down the trees, and repainted the castle half off-white and half beige with high gloss blue torrents. :hammer:

The castle being seen from Main Street is the obvious exception to the rule. It is the beacon that draws you deeper into the park and encourages you to explore its lands.

A land based in the 1700s was never meant to catch glimpses of a land set in the future.

That's WHY the trees were planted in the hub in the first place (other than for shade), they perfectly blocked the inevitable visual intrusion.

All part of the genius of the team of Imagineers who designed the park

The Contemporary was meant to be seen from Tomorrowland. It was crafted in the same basic design as the original land was.

While in the land, it's part of the backstory of Tomorrowland. It's technicaly supposed to be (loosely) part of Perfect Park Acres.

We are seeing different things. I saw very large trees at the latest time when they were up, and not pruned. Made the Castle looked smaller, seeing it throws off the forced perspective.

The high gloss is more subtle now, thankfully.

I really do doubt that, sorry. They were planted for aesthetics, and seeing they got in the way of the MK's biggest show, they were taken away. Their removal also helped the Castle look more grand and stately, but that's my own opinion. (though, removing them did revert the MK back to it's original sight lines.

If there was supposed the be a "thematic curtain", which they do use in some places, I doubt that they would have removed it. You can see into annother land quite easily in ALL of the MK's. Disneyland too. The magic overlapping is supposed to happen, IMHO.
