It almost makes me think all the layoffs were part of some planned restructuring, and with the economy having some issues, it was just perfect timing to execute the plan or it was a knee jerk reaction in anticipation of something that may or may not ever happen.

Personally I think it was a little bit of the first, and a lot of the latter.

Um...there is one big refurb happening. And said refurb is about half as big as it could/should have been. And it's about six years late. I have no idea where you come up with the "so many" comment.
I know I just don't get it. Where does this baffling mentality come from? Is Pixie Dust truly that potent that it completely blinds its victims from common sense and reality?

More to the point, Disney continues to cut quality, services and product in general, and it is looked upon by many as progress. There is a parallel that can be drawn from the example above to what Disney is doing. While I wish Disney would take on the liberal spending attitude of our government, that is obviously not where the similitude can be drawn. The comparison is in the blatent disregard for the company's future, just as all we get from our politicians is lip-service about our Childrens' future.

Very few, other than economists and critical thinkers, are too concerned with the $50 trillion debt we are incurring nationwide. Same with Disney. The brand is slowly eroding and very few in the executive ranks care about the "creative and quality debt" the company will have to endure in the future. There will come a time that the lack of quality product and investment into the parks will cause future management to be forced to play catch up. But they will be working from a disadvantage since public perception will have already been swayed.

The numbers look pretty good on paper now. How much more can they squeeze out of others' past creative work in the company? How long before the lack of vision and foresight will take away the strong numbers the empty and imperceptive suits are enjoying these days?

Oh, with out a doubt. AA in all honesty is probably my favorite attraction in EPCOT right now. Either that or Living with the Land.

Man...I am such a dork.:hammer:

I walk out of HoP rubbing sleep out of my eyes, and I walk out of AA with watery eyes:lookaroun

You're in good company:wave:

Just looked at Screamscape, and it looks like there's a bit of a struggle going on with Space Mountain. According to the site, some management wants to cut a lot of the better stuff out in order for it to open for the holidays, while some are trying to keep a grand scope.

Again, it's Screamscape, so who knows how accurate it is.

Nope, sorry. Unfortunately I'm stuck at school right now, studying for an Industrial Electronics test.:brick:

I won't be back on the river until May.

Industrial Electronics :hurl: I like my place in the world of public relations, marketing and Disney obsession. Good luck though! I'll be sure to send river thoughts your way! :p

I'm no expert on attendance, but in my opinion (and in our case), the four for three actually initiates additional spending. For example, we usually stay at the Swan b/c we can get a government rate. We are now staying at the Polynesian and spending slightly more than we would at the swan, but can upgrade our stay. We are still budgeting for our normal yearly trip with our normal spending, food, etc.

People are spending money they normally would not spend because it is more affordable. Not to sound insensitive, ( and I do feel so thankful! and horrible for those who have) but in our area we have not seen a negative economic impact, and people are making vacation plans as normal.

I know this is just in certain areas of the US, but that may be some of the attendance increase.
Amidst this sea of turmoil I wish to bid you welcome to WDWMAGIC.

Government can't produce anything except destruction and corruption when left to their own devices. It's the nature of government. When government spends it means they took money out of the private sector, or burdened us with debt and inflation, and will use the money to favor one group over another or use it to expand or create more bureaucracy. You are right that new business needs to be started but thanks to the current policies, it has become harder and harder to do so and come out successfull.

This is the biggest load of propoganda I have ever heard in my life and has already been proven to be untrue. Governments keep us secure, safe, and lay down the foundations for businesses to prosper. Government's also provide the infrastruture that makes all of our lives better.

Also, government did not "take money out of the private sector" it was corrupt a-holes at the top of all these companies who enjoyed deregulation and no government oversight who walked away with huge severance packages while leaving companies and their employees in shambles. Those are the losers who took the money.
