The closing time was known at least as far back as August. There was a post on another forum from August mentioning it was closing at 6 and the OP was wondering why.

So, at least it was not a last minute surprise.
Well for the 99% who don’t read Disney message boards or blogs, this is a last minute surprise.

For some reason AK is closing at 6pm on Dec 10 & 11, a Tues & Wed. Not sure what that's about?

Tues Dec 10 is also a 6pm party night at MK. I wouldn't choose HS on this day o_O because 75% of others probably will.

Just brutal if you been planning for months, picked all your dining ADR's Fastpasses and then, guess what, your day has been truncated, even if it is only by a couple hours.
What if you got Skipper Canteen ADR at 7pm?...Disney doesn't care. Get out! Someone else with more money came along and that's all that matters.

Surprisingly only around 200k which is nothing for most companies.

Any decent corporate event starts at $100k, and that can be for nothing more than a hotel ballroom, food, and OK entertainment (no headliners here). $200k for the MK with food is kind of a bargain in the corporate world.

I never worked for them but Lehman Bros. loved going to WDW for corporate events up until 2008, then we know what happened to them..

Uh, I don't think it was the Disney parties that did Lehman Brothers in. Perhaps it was their shady (and shaky) financial products rather than the parties?

Plenty of corporations and associations are financially solid and more than capable of hosting large parties for their employees, members, and potential clients without collapsing the economy. You may think corporate parties excessive, but for the millions of people who work within the special events industry, those parties are a major (if not only) income source.

According to OTPN; HEA is at 10:45....Another special 180 HEA???

Yes yes yes! Hopefully someone records the full show from the Contemporary or some place..

The previous time when it happened last May, we only got a video of the finale with perimeters (that I could find...after some intensive searching)..

Hey, if they have the money, roll with it. Its bragging rights to the 10th degree. Would love to go to one of these. And it was known about in advance, so no complaints here.

Been there before with people walking in Black Tie and evening gowns. Meh. Just went to another park or to the Market Place.

People really ought to check out opening times of the parks before visiting though.

And anyone who had FPs booked for after 5pm would have got an email and a change of time for their FP(s). Same with anyone who had booked an ADR. So everyone who had made any kind of plans to be in MK that evening was notified two months ago.

It may come as a surprise to those who planned to park hop to see the fireworks but hadn’t checked park times. Or those who were just going to roll up to WDW on the day.

Agree to disagree. For a company that requires their guests to plan at minimum 180 days, nearly every detail is ironed out 60 days prior to their trip, including ADR’s, fast passes, shows, fireworks etc. We like to park hop and base many of my decisions off park hours that are posted 30 days. Let’s be honest, you and most of the human population would be a little irked no?

I am sure it was NOT $200K for MK. I've worked events before, and this amount is not right.

Yeah, it doesn't work out. Whats the minimum number of CMs needed to staff the park? 4000? 5000? Take 4000. 4 hour event. Thats 16000 hours. Even at $10/hr, thats $160,000. Disney isn't closing the park for $40k.

If its not the entire park available, different story, the number of CMs goes down. But the number is probably north of $500,000.

Yeah the 200,000 is very much false. Disney would lose money on that deal. They would make 10-15 times that much making it a halloween party.

Renting out the entire MK for a several hour wedding was $180,000 in 2017. That was the advertised price. Renting the facility doesn't mean also paying for food and transportation. Those might add on $100k to the price for 1,000 people.

That was to have a wedding in the park. It did not actually include the entire park and it’s attractions and food and beverage locations being open and on free vend. Nor did it include a full Fireworks show.
