Really? It's not? Gee whiz...
No, it wasn't. There were no real facts, numbers, amounts, etc. We had a couple of "think we have" and "hardly hire."

One part I noticed is apparently the number of outside contractors has "increased considerably." They did mention going behind and redoing some things, but there were no rates... 5%, 10% of the time?

For most people, I would think "decimated maintenance" would mean things simply were unusable, completely broken, nothing right. I'm not seeing that at all. I believe if people are actually being honest, they would agree "decimated" is hyperbole.

Here is the video I took here in March... in HD is it really that bad?

Here are the problems:

1.Entire laughing place is not working.
2.Several AA's not working properly.
3.Several AA's are just plain filthy.
4.The interior walls need a SERIOUS paint job.
5.The water going down the big drop isn't flowing nearly as much as it should (at least, it wasn't in July.)
6.The splash zone on the bridge is gone.

Now, compared with Rip Saw Falls (and I love Islands of Adventure), Splash looks and smells beautiful. But for those that remember riding over and over again in the 90's, it simply looks worn out. It's completely acceptable and understandable that this is going to happen in time with rides, but it's been pretty bad for quite some time, and any one of the above mentioned problems, could be fixed with very little downtime. If nothing else, if TDO would stop being so cheap, all of it could be taken care of during it's annual downtime in January. To be fair, it didn't have that break this year because of BTMRR being down, but it's looked bad for more than a couple years now.

Why do you say the lauging place is not working? whats wrong with it.. see video?

splash zone is not gone.. got soaked in June.

I used a very light sensitive Slr to film this.. you may see more here then you thought.

I think part of the problem is that it's been so long since the laughing place worked 100% most people forget how vibrant that scene should be. There should be water flowing out of all of the pots. There should be jets of water leaping over the flume in front of your boat. That entire room should be 'alive' - that is sad as it used to be one of the highlights of the attraction.

The jumping water effects aren't working at all. The Splash Zone on the bridge was not working at all for at least 2 weeks in July, and 1 week in January.

There are some missing effects and they should be fixed. But it's hardly falling apart as some would lead you to believe.

Ok. I am tagged and I don't even know what the question is. Can someone please cut and paste it for me so I don't have to wonder back through a gazillion posts?

If they need more staff, they should hire them. However, I have a feeling the "decimated" staffing is more hyperbole than fact.

Ok.
Let's throw that question out to prople on the ground in a position to maybe know a bit about it?
Alektronic? t3techcom18? Tirian? Raven?

Oh if they dont tell us completely, we find out ourselves. There are some things us in Ops we don't know or are as much in the dark as the public is, depending on location and who you know and even then very tiny details (namely future/ongoing projects like New FL and the TT rehab).

Even the things you are not in the dark about, you know very little of. Management in Operations is notorious for their extreme lack of transparency on anything, and any and all explanations are rumors generated amongst the hourly front-line cast with no basis in fact.

It's amazing to me that so many front-line cast think they have the tidbits management doesn't want them to really know, when in reality they know nothing and management has not revealed anything about their true intentions.

As attractions get older, they need more maintenance. You have not shown anything other than conjecture that increasing maintenance equals cost cutting. In fact, it's the opposite. So, the "decimated" is hear-say? Sorry, not buying it.

Here's my issue. If some people would put away their agendas and deal in facts, they would be better off. Of course, it wouldn't whip the fanboi groupies into a lather and, well, they would take a lot of fun out of the ego stroking, I'm sure. (not directed necessarily at you Lee)

The fact is, a lot of refurbs and updates have been taking place all over MK. It appears they are improving their maintenance. Praise the increase and push for even more.

I think you are missing the point of what the rest of us on "this side" of the argument are trying to say ... I'll try and be as succinct as possible;

YES we love that they are taking the time to do the work but aren't we allowed to ask some questions about it ... such as:
1. Why didn't they hire enough staff to keep up the status quo on maintenance on not just Splash but everything? (ANSWER: Money)

2. Why don't they shut it down for a proper full blown refurb instead of little band aids here and there? (ANSWER: Money)

3. So now after years of neglect to where the attraction, admittedly by Disney due to this change, needs extra care why are they only allotting maybe 4-6 extra hours a week to care for it? (ANSWER: Money)

4. Why cut EMH? (Answer: Money)

5. Why take out Splash? (ANSWER: Money)

You see there is a direct trail, it's not just "Oh we're replacing Splash with Tiki to give Splash some extra maintenance, yay!" ... in actuality it's "Well, we've run it into the ground and although the extra time really won't do a whole lot of good it will be better than nothing and hey we can save a ton by shutting it down and most people will be proud of us for doing maintenance." ... Oops

6. Why do they think we are idiots? (ANSWER: Money ... in that we, me included, keep giving it to them)

So has anyone heard anything about SM running during MNSSHP? My wife took the news better than I thought she would. She told me that they don't ride it during EMH anyways.

See the post right below yours. It was around whether or not there have been detrimental cuts in maintenance personel and consolidations of teams over the years and no replacement of CMs who have left for whatever reason to the point that leaves maintenance under funded and under staffed.

They just reveal their plans to posters on Disney message boards...:)

Wow.. did you sleep through the late nighties and into the 2000s? This very shift in mentality hit both WDW and DL as consultants came in and redefined how the company went from dedicated maintenance staff for an attraction to roving teams for maintenance. It's changes like these that helped shift the company from being ahead of the curve on upkeep and reliability to a 'report whats broke, and we'll get to it when we can' mindset. People took the high level of show of Disney as a given, and used it to justify cutting staff.. arguing it was unnecessary. Of course, what do you have years later?? Staff so under powered they can't even maintain show standards, let alone get ahead of the curve to get back to reliability.

Do you even read the books offered on Disney?
