I live in California and we go to DL all the time. The cups at DL suck in comparison with MKs. If some people think that MK's spin slow, then they need to experience DL's, it's like night and day. You can barely spin DL's and they aren't protected from the elements neither, so I think the whole spinner system is probably rusted out or something underneath. And they make the same noise as well stopping, don't think that'll ever change.

I get MK's spinning so hard that people can't hold themselves upright and they're pinned to the back of the seats. Hell, I nearly made myself sick on them last month down there, gave myself a great migraine!

I used to work the Teacups at Disneyland. The key to making them spin fast is to use your bottom. This sounds stupid, but it's true. The spinner in middle doesn't really spin. It's stationary. The more you use your bottom, the better it'll spin. That's why the Teacups spin faster when there are more people in it.

I figured that trick out last year at DL. While it does make it go faster, it's nothing like MK's ride. They just really need to put a roof on top of the one at DL.

I think the weird spring-breaking CLUNK! noise the WDW cups make is actually a purposeful sound effect. It's just so loud and weird that it can't actually be the machinery making that noise. And the Disneyland version of the ride has never made that same noise, ever. Are you thinking of the same noise the rest of us are?

Here's two clips of America's two teacups rides; Disneyland and WDW. They were both taken in February '12, and I chose them because they both hold the camera steady for the full 90 second cycle and the sound quality is similar. At the 1:15 mark in this video you can quite clearly hear the spring snapping CLUNK! noise the WDW teacups make at the end of every cycle. It's a unique sound never duplicated at Disneyland.

Here's the Disneyland version of the ride. Not a clunk to be heard as the cups glide to a stop.

I think the WDW clunking noise might just be a bad 1970's sound effect that is now taken to be the machinery struggling to bring the ride to a stop. It's too weird and ominous sounding to actually be the machinery of the ride working, or not working.

I was thinking of the brake noise. Not that.

I'm not sure what brake noise you mean, but I just solved the WDW CLUNK! noise. I now think it's not a bad sound effect, but is actually the brakes engaging on the turntable to make the cups stop spinning. Yikes!

Here's an on-ride video taken at WDW last week, and at the 0:50 second mark you hear the clunk, but then the riders in the cup are visibly thrown around a bit as their cup stops spinning suddenly. Even the parents go "whoa!" and react to the sudden stop. Here's the WDW video of that clunking brake action, after the 0:50 mark.

I don't remember any other sounds from the Disneyland or WDW versions, and no "brake noises" show up on any videos. The only memorable noise from the teacup rides (aside from the music and Alice safety announcements) is the CLUNK! noise, and that's only found at WDW. And it now appears to actually be the machinery doing that, and it has something to do with a clutch engaging or brakes closing at the end of each WDW ride cycle.

No music on the MK Teacups? :/

There's music. But the covered roof can create noisy conditions when there's a crowd, so the music gets lost in the noisy frenzy. Here's the music and audio for WDW without any riders, and that CLUNK! noise just after the 1:00 mark on this video is brutal. Almost sounds like a gunshot on this one.

I like WDW's MTP music. It's a nice 6 minute suite of music from the movie, not that the 1 minute loop at DL is bad, but it can get repetitive while waiting in line.

I saw a post on another board that as of today Mad Tea Party had still not closed for it's refurbishment. Can anyone confirm this?

100% open as of today. Seems strange to me that with all the construction in the immediate area that the Tea Cups would be refurbished right now.
