M. Inc. means World for Epcot?

I agree that Japan needs something. I do think that Italy is the most lacking, though. I would really like to have seen the Venetian ride or a Roman gods or anything on the right side of the pavilion by the fountain.

If Epcot was able to fix the problems with the Japan attraction space, then I would love to see Meet The World come to the Japan pavillion. First of all, I think there is so much potential for the area. Secondly, it's my favorite pavillion and attracts a lot of guests. Third, now that a lot of American kids and young adults are exposed to Japanese culture, something like Meet The World would appeal to them.

Thanks Marni for your input. I hope that the problem with the theater space can be resolved, since my family loves the Carousel of Progress and the attraction sounds like it would be popular. *imagines eating sushi and then relaxing in a rotating theater*

I like the idea of an anime dark ride for Japan's pavilion in WS.. I saw a movie on Meet the World and wasn't at all intrigued by it... But a dark ride based on Japan's best anime characters would rule.

How about the other dormant expansion for Japan? Along with the Mount Fuji Rollercoaster, the Ginza district was to be added to the pavilion showcasing modern Japan, with it`s Bladerunner styled neon streets and LCD covered buildings... discuss!

I think that would be a great use of the exisitng show building at Japan. They could create an environment similar to that of the interior of the Mexican pavilion. But instead of a Mexican market it would be the ginza district all lit up at night.

WHY DO PEOPLE REFUSE TO READ THE ORIGINAL POST instead of commenting on some post that completely mis-represented the whole original thought??? :brick:

I understand what you meant, MERF, and I agree! What a great possibility for the Anniversarty celebration at EPCOT!

Can anybody say COMPREHENSION?????

I guess its better to just laugh about it......

Ok.. so theorizing and rumor mongering...

It's been announced that Tokyo Disneyland will be recieving a new Monsters Inc ride. Yay, cool beans for them.

Here's where it gets interesting...

Monsters Inc will reside in the Meet the World show building at TDL. While this replacement of a shuttered attraction (since 2002) seems like good measure and such.. the important thing to remember is that Meet the World was originally planned for Epcot's Japan pavilion. The show building for it even exists at the rear of the pavilion.

Fascinating as adding Meet the World to Epcot is, it's not really rumor worthy - until you notice that at Epcot they've been working on that show building at the rear of the pavilion for months. We've assumed it was just general upkeep, but has it really been? The building certainly didn't "need" the overhaul, as it's design style didn't show wear and tear. Perhaps they are prepping it for Meet the World?

I'd say no.. wishful thinking... but it is Epcot's 25th coming soon. There is already major rumors of the other pavilions being updated in World Showcase, so I think there's hope. It'd be cheap coparitvely to building a whole new show, but would Epcot's World Showcase a nice draw toward the rear.

What do you think?

Do you think Meet the World might come to Epcot finally?

If they did not add it 25 years ago, I am not sure why it would get added today....it is not as if the other attractions that opened with Epcot in 1982 are still popular.

Although the building may not have looked like it needed refurbishment, it may have had issues (small cracks in the facade) that could over time damage the building.

Maybe they should do like a Martial arts show??? Considering they hold the martial arts competitions in disney.

Starring Chuck Norris, or an AA of Chuck Norris. The only thing that could kill the Chuck AA would be Chuck Norris, but if this happened, the universe would implode.

I got new pics of the Japan construction - it's been going on for ages, and only on the half of the rear building that would contain the empty show building. That's the main reason i'm suspicious.

My gut says it's been under tarps (ever increasingly bigger ones) ever since Nov, possibly October. Does anyone know when it went under tarps?

They did paint the roof tops of the rest of the pavilion - but the rock work on the other wall half is immaculate and was never tarped. So, unless that other side was severly damaged...

Oh.. and heading into the museum area and rear entrance of Mitsukoshi - as you pass over the bridge, overhead there's a giant white stone structure, like a plaque or sheild, that's got nothing on it. I never noticed it before, but I bet it'd of been the marquee had the attraction been built.

Japan tarps from across the lagoon on Saturday, Feb 4th.

I swear they've been getting progressively bigger..

On Sunday, after lunch in China, I hopped over to Japan for some investigative photos - I tried every angle known to man, every crevice and every pathway, but to no avail, I was unable to get a shot of anything other than tarp.

Even the person with me commented that this was the most elusive tarping they'd ever seen. Nothing is visible.

Not neccesarily building, because it's merely obscuring the existing building - which is why i say the rumor than the building was built too small seems silly. It's huge.

The second to last pic, i was standing on the second floor of the Mitsukoshi and it clearly goes up another 2 floors - it's one o the few things in Epcot that is really as tall as it looks.

They are only doing some rehab work on the structure seen on the top right of this picture. It is no different than any of the other work that they have been doing at Epcot. In the past couple of years this same thing has happened or is happening at Italy, Canada, Norway, Mexico, and China.

Merf when we took our trip to WDW at the end of June I noticed something going on with that building. Scaffolding was up but I don't remember any tarps being up. By the way Hello everybody! I've been lurking on these boards since early last year.

Huge it may be, but even if the building was 1000' x 1000' and the attraction that was to fit into it was 1001' wide it would still be too small. Not to mention if support columns were in places that interfered with the ride relocating them can be tricky and removing them entirely is in most cases impossible.

Indeed it is - and so is the CoP show building, to the same scale:
