Little Mermaid in 3D canceled

I agree. However, I think a Lion King dark ride would be a perfect fit for AK, much better than would Avatar. And so would The Jungle Book.
I guess I just don't see the appeal of experiencing a cartoon African savannah right next to the Kilimanjaro Wildlife Reserve. On the Disney's Animal Kingdom television special Joe Rhode tells a story of bringing a tiger to a meeting to show the allure and power of real animals. I think including animated films undermines that reality and the connection of the human animal to other animals. Not to create a huge derail, but I think this is also the difference between Avatar or Star Wars and Beastly Kingdom or Expedition Everest. We once thought one set of animals to be very real, the others have always been fake.

I won't get to experience it until May...but I am so excited! I am very impressed with everything I see on the videos and in pictures and have loved reading people's wonderful trip reports.

I kind of wish there was an expansion of Adventureland that included a small Aladdin area and something with Lion King...then the big Disney animated movies of the 90s would all be represented. Adventureland really is weak in terms of attractions and could use a few sub-areas like Fantasyland just received. I suggest a Lion King dark ride and a coaster for Aladdin that's based on a flying carpet. In building this, they can then remove the Aladdin Flying Carpets spinner.
that would be nice!

i also think they should just clean up tomorrow land, maybe give stitch a better ride.

I wish "Tomorrowland" would be reconsidered and completely rebuilt. I like changing it to "Discoveryland" and having it be the land that has attractions based on science and technology. This would make it more timeless, as "Tomorrowland" is the future and the future always catches up with us.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I hate 3D; I wear glasses so glasses-over-glasses for 90 minutes (or more) is a miserable, headache-inducing experience. So I never go see the 3D re-releases. (Or any 3D movie for that matter.)

That said, when Beauty and the Beast came out on IMAX back in 2002, we made a special point to see it. Getting to see it on the big screen - and in fact, really big screen - again was awesome. If they just put something out every few years in good old 2D, I think a lot of people would enjoy seeing it in the theater again.

Heck, Back to the Future was released on the big screen for it's 25th anniversary and pretty much sold out everywhere. Sure as heck I was in the audience. Even though I know the movie literally by heart (I'm so not kidding) and I've seen it more times than I can count, the experience of seeing in the theater was SO worth the $10.
Like you, I can't stand wearing the 3D glasses over my glasses.
That being said, I saw Titanic 3D in theatres 6 times (5 fewer times than during its original release).

you have a good point, yet "Tomorrow land" is classic. so i have to disagree with changing it completely.

No 3D Ariel? What a shame! :(

I really enjoyed the 3D re-releases of Lion King and BatB. Wish they'd do some more! Aladdin would be great in 3D! :)

Besides, I've got this really nice 3D tv setup. I could use some more content. Especially animated movies, which work better in 3D than live action.

I think your "Discoveryland" sounds like Future World. The Tomorrowland ideal is so close to what Future World should be; that's why I don't have a problem with Tomorrowland as Sci-Fi Fantasyland.

Someone at Blu-ray.com forum's has posted pictures of the 3 disc edition of Peter Pan. In the book it has an ad for the 3D release of The Little Mermaid. It also confirms that the next Diamond Edition will be The Little Mermaid:

Also on the disc is a trailer for the 3D release of The Little Mermaid at the theater.

Either these were printed early, or its not completely cancelled.

I really hope it's not cancelled!!!

I absolutely agree!
Last week as I walked through the Magic Kingdom I realized something: I never want to spend time in Tomorrowland. I get on Space Mountain and Carousel and Buzz, and occasionally the Peoplemover - but I don't do what I do in all the other lands: admire my surroundings, take extra photos, stop and smell the roses.
Tomorrowland is a very jarring, disjointed land and as it currently is, I do not feel it belongs in MK. It needs a serious re-imagining, with more trees and pathways and plant life. It's just a concrete jungle right now, and it isn't pretty.

Ok enough of my banter...as to the topic at hand, I am kind of surprised they're considering dropping the 3D release. It doesn't sound like Disney to me. You know they'd make cash off of it.

I see at this years D23 Expo, they're going to have a special presentation or something like that for the 50th anniversary Diamond edition blu ray for Marry Poppins. Any of you think this could get converted to 3d? Since its an older movie that doesn't feature CAPS, my guess is no.

I agree with your banter there is a major disconnect that should be addressed. The flow from FL into TL is just off. o_O

Mary Poppins should be re-released in theaters for the 50th (AS IS!)

Just bought new release of Phineas and Ferb 'Animal Agents' (released Feb 26th) and there's a full trailer for Little Mermaid in 3D. So, is it really dead? My 6 yr old's fave is Ariel and now she's very excited due to that trailer. Any updates or changes to the plans that anyone is aware of?
