Lin-Manuel Miranda Pitches Encanto Attraction to Chapek?

I'd argue that the animals in Brother Bear and Home on the Range (unpopular movies, I know) are clearly animals as well. The only one in either of them who I feel like miiiiiiiiiiight qualify as anthropomorphic is Lucky Jack.

I've never seen either of those movies and forgot they exist, but I believe you!

I thought there was probably at least one more out there beyond the three I mentioned, though.

Bullcrap. There is literally a song about the Circle of Life, and arguably the most popular of all of the songs. It is literally a defining quality of the overreaching theme of the conservation and goals of Animal Kingdom's storytelling. It is also contient specific to Africa wich helps with Animal Kingdom.
The Circle of Life is really setting up Mufasa passing on the kingdom to Simba, and it’s about that generational change as well as how he needs to respect and value everything in the kingdom to be a good leader. Yes, Mufasa’s single line in the movie about how he’ll become grass eaten by antelopes does touch on conservation, but that doesn’t outweigh the fact that the movie is about a human power struggle, hence why I said hardly.

Yep. Lion King, Bambi, and Jungle Book are really the only three that actually focus on animal characters that are clearly animals (i.e. they still live in their natural habitats etc.), even if they act like humans in some respects. I think every other movie either showcases animals that are essentially dressed up humans, or has more natural animals that solely act as a sidekick to humans.

Maybe Tarzan? Kinda similar to Jungle Book; though the humans take center stage in the story, but the animals are still animals doing animal things.

I think it’s too early for an Encanto ride… the movie just dropped in February and while the Columbia pavilion would be awesome, I think Chapek should give it a bit of time

I agree with your statement. They should ensure that the ride will be worth it in the long haul and not just a blackbox for the next "big thing". I wonder though how worried they are with the 3rd gate being built down the road? If they are, then they need to have things in the pipeline to have open before Universal disrupts the orlando market again. Maybe im wrong.

I'm late to this conversation, but I think Disney's Renaissance movies still deserve dark rides before Encanto. We finally just got a proper Beauty and the Beast ride in Tokyo... nearly 30 years after it premiered. I believe we still deserve a proper Aladdin dark ride (the movie itself lends itself great for a dark ride) as well as a Lion King dark ride. These movies are still popular decades later, and continue to be popular.

Pocahontas at least has an explicit message about how humans need to respect nature.
Isn't one of the central theme of Animal Kingdom supposed to be the relation between humans and animals? If I'm not misremembering that, Pocahontas would be a particularly appropriate IP as the relationship between people and nature is one of the core themes of the movie. I'm not sure Disney is that committed to the IP so as to build an attraction at this point in time, but thematically it does make sense.

I don't think there's any queue and most films never get a dark ride, regardless of popularity. The one thing with an Encanto attraction is where to put it. A Colombia pavilion at Epcot would make a lot of sense, but I doubt we'll see another pavilion in my lifetime. It's a shame there's not more room on either side of Caribbean Plaza in the Magic Kingdom as transitioning from the Caribbean to a little Colombian-themed area would work really nicely.

They had a Pocahontas show and then tore it down and built Avatar on top, which has the same message [plot too] so I don't think they'd commit to bringing back the character in any major way for that reason.

Dim Manuel and Encanto both suck.

Hopefully he wrote up an elaborate plan for an attraction and Disney threw it in the trash as soon as he left. The movie is a "Meh" at best.

And it's not very good. Neither was the Little Mermaid ride we got.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I trust the current imagineers to pull off dark rides based on Aladdin and The Lion King.

It's certainly far from perfect, but I'd still take it at WDW over most of the other rides they've added in the past decade.

What would a Lion King dark ride even be? A book report through a plastic savannah? A real-life version of the 2003 DVD game?

Maybe a scary/fast ride through the Elephant Graveyard, but I don't see Disney doing something like that now.

I think Aladdin has a bit more potential. At least you could make a good coaster ride through the Cave of Wonders.
