The gulf wasn’t as bad as I feared. Not brilliant but more than manageable.

One question, is the area dammed off the only section of track that has to be worked or replaced? Or will they then have to dam off more later to replace the rest? Curious if that isn't part of why this is down so long...

Reminds me of the pictures of all the bicycles they find at the bottom of the Canal Saint-Martin in Paris during the periodic cleanups.

Once we learned that they were going to partially drain it, several folks posted pictures when it started and as it progressed. Shockingly, aside from the nearly-50-years' worth of sludge at the bottom, there wasn't really any sign of garbage.

The engineer is "stepping on the gas." The "throttle" is called the Johnson Bar. If you go to the lowest deck you can see him in action. The pilot communicates with the engineer using the whistle.

Is that your Johnson Bar or are you just happy to see me.

It has been drained and cleaned a number of times since 1971. I had the complete opposite reaction and was actually shocked that they refilled it with so much muck and slime remaining.

You can find images online of a pressurewashed mold free proper rehab on the Rivers of America.

No worries! There are lots of folks here who have more info about things than I do. It's always nice to learn something new!

The annoying part is that both sides were “clean.” But now they took the pile of dirt and muck that they had accumulated from both sides and spread it out on that one side.

Like how when you’re sweeping your house, you pile all the dust and dirt up and then remove it en masse?

They piled it all up in one giant pile. My assumption was they were preparing to remove the pile, but instead they just spread it all out again

Spreading it out so it dries out. The less it weighs the better
