Lessons Learned by a First Time Cruiser: Kids, Shuffleboard and Runners Don't Mix!

Hi Everyone! We just got back from a fantastic cruise aboard the Disney Magic. Now, like most everyone else that takes a Disney cruise, I am hooked! There were a couple things that didn't go exactly as planned, but we still had a great time and can't wait to do another. Unfortunately with the Disney Marathon next year, a trip to Disney next summer with my niece and possibly the Disneyland Half in 2013, I think another cruise will have to wait till 2014. Maybe prices will come down on the Fantasy by then! So without further delay...on with the trip report! :sohappy:

LOVE the pics of CC! Makes me want to be there right now!!! Man, I'm so jealous of everyone taking cruises lately (I'm looking at you and Kelly here!!! lol)

I can't wait to try Pelican Plunge. I love waterslides! :D

Pelican Plunge was great! The slides were kind of short but still fun! The enclosed one is really fast, while the open one is a little slower. I was surprised how fast the closed one was! Dan got me a GoPro waterproof camera which takes video also. He took video going down the slide but it was taking so long to upload it to Photobucket, I gave up. Thanks for reading! You will probably get to CC before I will again, so don't be too jealous! My trip is over but yours is still to come!

Time for a rest before dinner. We also wanted start packing up some stuff as we had to have our bags outside our room just after dinner.

Tonight's show was Disney Dreams. Boy, what a great show!

We went back to Animator's Palate for our Till We Meet Again dinner.

For an appetizer I had the Goat Cheese/Potato Napoleon. Very good!

DisneyCruise231.jpg

Dan had Leek and Potato Soup.

DisneyCruise234-1.jpg

I had the Lobster Crawfish Bisque.

DisneyCruise237-1.jpg

For the entree, I continued my streak and had the seafood linguini with mussels, scallops and shrimp. So good!

DisneyCruise238-1.jpg

Dan had the Beef Wellington.

DisneyCruise239-1.jpg

Dessert time! I had the Celebration Cake with Strawberries.

DisneyCruise240-1.jpg

Dan had the Chocolate Decadence,

Ah! The Deck 7 not-so-secret deck. We spent many hours there as our stateroom was quite aft on Deck 7, and we were just a few steps from it. Love that spot!

I'm with you on being able to survive at Castaway Cay!

It's not private, it's a "secret" deck as Iloverags referenced. It's aft on deck 7. Sometimes it's closed for private functions like weddings, but usually it's a nice quiet place to enjoy the sun. We love that deck. :)

Castaway Cay! Sigh. How I miss that place. And palo? Wow!! My two favorite places. :)

Cindy & Tammy beat me to the punch! Yep, it's the "secret" deck. We went out there just to see it. Very nice little hidden gem! It was part of the reason I was so jazzed about our deck 7 room we had booked. It was just a few doors down from the "secret" deck and the "secret" stairs. Next time you're on the Magic (or Wonder) go all the way aft on deck 7. There's a door that has a little sign saying it's closed from ____ to ____ (can't remember the hours). You can't miss the door if you know to look for it. We looked for the door that had to be the right one and opened it. Also, there's a "secret" staircase back there by the door. It's an additional stairway, smaller than the others. I'm not sure how far up or down you can go from here. I don't know that we attempted to actually use the stairs to go anywhere. I did see the stairway, tho. Seems like I read that deck 7 aft cruisers loooove the stairway because it's like having secret access right up to Topsiders. These little "secret" perks were one of the reasons I was hesitant to upgrade from our stateroom on 7. I was looking forward to these!

I had this, too! It was interesting. The texture threw me a little.

Tracey & Chandler had this. Both loved it. Neither ate the "spears-of-grass" on top. ((That's what Tracey called 'em))

Dan had the Chocolate Decadence,

I had this dessert. I liked the stuff in the little glass better than the stuff on the plate. I sound so sophisticated, don't I??? LOL!

That is a neat little deck. If it hadn't been mentioned in our cruise group I never would've known...

You do have to kind of know it's there or you won't even notice the doors.

Next time!! :)

This is true. I knew it was there so I went looking for the door. If I hadn't known I prob'ly never would've noticed the door. Looked like any other door. Because it wasn't really different I would've mistook it for a crew-only place.

What? You didn't see it in the pages and pages of information I sent you? :lookaroun:lol:

I prob'ly did but it didn't register with me until we upgraded to room 7104 and someone (I think Christina) pointed out that I'd love that room because it was near the "secret" deck! I loved your wealth of info you send. Especially the packing list. My favorite Tammy tip is: lay out all the clothes that you think you need for your cruise then put away half. That couldn't be more true for laundry obsessers like us!

 My husband just read my tips the other day when I updated them and he said, "That's awesome, why didn't you ever tell me that?"

Hmmm.....could it be because it had a little "kick" to it? :ROFLOL: Dan said "Taste this. Am I crazy or does this have alcohol in it?" I tasted and sure enough....YUM! :slurp:

After dinner, we went back to our room and sadly finished our packing. We had our luggage out our door just before 10 pm for collection. They give you tags that are attached to your luggage and allow you to easily find them when you arrive for departure. Our luggage was to be found in the Tinkerbell section.

I don't have any pics from our debarkation day. We had the second serving for breakfast which I think began at 8 am. We had our farewell breakfast at Animator's Palette. Shutters is right next door (place to get pictures) and it was tough to tell which line was for breakfast and which was for Shutters. The Shutters line was huge. Thank goodness we got our pics the night before!

Now, I have to tell you that the food on the ship was some of the best I have ever had. It was awesome. Our breakfast on that last day was not good. You could tell that they just want you off the ship. We both had the "Sweet Journeys" breakfast. It was 3 pancakes (whole grain, buttermilk and blueberry) and a "Belgian" waffle. The pancakes were small and tough. They felt like they had been sitting under a light all morning. The waffle was a small square supermarket brand frozen waffle. It was pretty bad, not the quality we were served earlier. Kind of a bummer. At least the danish they served first were good. We were out of there by 8:30. Before leaving, we handed our tip envelopes to our servers. It was a little weird because our assistant server had been "sick" for our last dinner and and last breakfast. He wasn't the best assistant server. We almost always had to ask him to refill our drinks and he seemed to be more into the other tables than us (they had young teen girls). We did give him a tip, but our assistant fill in was so much better. We gave him a cash tip for the 2 services we had him for. Our server, Oksana was awesome so we gave her extra also. We hardly saw our head server except for a little schmoozing each night so we just gave him the recommended amount. Our room steward was great so he got extra as well.

Overall, we had an excellent time and can't wait to go on another Disney cruise! The food and service was like nothing I have ever experienced! I only have 3 minor complaints.
1. Especially to Palo wait staff - Please don't go so overboard with the "I hope you like my service". It felt too much like fishing for tips. You can ask me once but not everytime you bring something to the table!
2. If you are going to advertise Deck 4 as a running deck, please have it available during prime running hours!
3. Please improve the farewell breakfast. It seemed a little too much like serve the cattle and get them out of here.

After we collected our luggage, we passed through customs with no problem (didn't have anything to declare) and were on our way to SeaWorld. Stay tuned if you would like to see some of my pics from SeaWorld and Universal!
This concludes the Disney part of my trip report! Hope you enjoyed! :sohappy: Hopefully my next trip report will be epic since it will be for the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge in 2013! Until then I will be trying to keep up with everyone's reports to pass the time!

I'll keep reading cause I love Sea World and Universal but I want to write some comments of else I'll forget!!

The pics you got of the ship docked in CC are BEAUTIFUL. The colors are so vibrant. I love it!!

Such a bummer the last breakfast was a let down. I'd be so sad to have to remember my last meal as being less than stellar! :(

And thanks everyone for the tip on the "secret" area on deck 7.. Maybe we can reserve this for our girls cruise.... WDWMagic Gals ONLY!!! :D

After leaving the ship.....we hit the road to SeaWorld. Originally, I was a little worried about having the 2nd seating for breakfast because we wanted to get to SeaWorld around opening but we were off the ship by 8:30 am so we were in good shape. We made it to SeaWorld at about 9:30 am. They had opened at 9 am.

Oh look! Seaworld has a Key West! Ya know since we could stop there and all. Somehow, I don't think it will be the same!

DisneyCruiseandSeaWorld035.jpg

The first show we went to was "Pets Ahoy". This was such a cute, creative show. I think this may have been one of my most favorite shows at SeaWorld. It had tons of trained rats, cats, dogs, pigs, birds, skunks, etc. It was awesome! All the animals in the show have been rescued from shelters.

Dan was looking forward to riding the Manta. Me, not so much! I don't have any pics, but on this coaster you ride kind of like you are flying. Your parallel with the ground. He loved it!

I took some time to take some pics while he was riding.
