Less Wishes in September?

I would be very surprised if they closed up at 7 p.m. in September, for a number of reasons.

First, which the OP pointed out, is that we're only a few weeks away, and most people already have their plans based on the posted hours. It will also seriously cause issues with dining reservations made in the park after the 7 p.m. hour.

That is why I put it squarely in the rumor category. I trust my source, but he isn't infallible. But Disney has been toying with schedules all year and they have made cuts at MK this summer ... albeit generally taking a midnight down to an 11 p.m., which doen't affect dining.

But anything is possible ... just look at the thread regarding DAK's hours issues this month.

Absolutely. With the economy the way it is, and Disney seemingly tinkering with things it has left alone before, it is possible.

At the end of the day, Disney is a business. Which is looking to make money. Sometimes I think the execs way up high forget about the guest experience in order to accomplish a profit... but since I'm not at those meetings, my opinion only matters to those who read it here :animwink:

We'll have to keep an eye on their official calendar and see what happens.

I am still trying to figure out what the big deal is. All of the 7:00 PM closures are on MNSSHP nights. This happens every year. This is no more news or a sign of things to come then MK closing early for Grad Night.

Until I hear anything else, this is my last post in the thread.

But you are going by what is currently published as the schedule.

What I was told reflects changes that would be made to that schedule.

In other words, more 7 p.m. closes AND/OR fewer Wishes performances per week.

You could leave MK open until 9 or 10 with no pyro to save money. That was done regularly before the 25th Anniversary when they began nightly showings.

But again ... there's not much left to talk about. I was told of a possibility and posted it.

Either way, it ain't gonna affect me because I'll be going to DLP and DL in September and far away from MK.

If I hear something either way, I'll post it. But telling me the current schedules don't reflect it (yet) is telling me the obvious.

I think all WDW1974 is say is that, according to his source, in addition to MNSSHP nights there will be further reductions. He quantified it by saying his source was not 100%.

Steven stated that he has different information currently.

Grains of salt folks.

Thanks for the info '74. You understand if I want to believe Steve on this on! :p

I realize this but you made no mention of it in your OP. Had you said something to the effect of "Rumor has it that MK will be adding more 7 PM closures with no Wishes and no MNSSHP" it would have cleared up a considerable amount of confusion.

That's the word I just heard, and is NOT confirmed.

But apparently Disney will no longer perform Wishes nightly. Also, look for lots of 7 p.m. closings.

Now ... before people bash me for simply putting this out there, I really don't have an issue with either except for the timing aspect of it all.

Disney never traditionally ran pyro nightly at MK prior to 1996 and people lived just fine. And closing at 7 (or even 6) was standard in September as it was (and is) the slowest month of the year.

The only issue I'd have with it is Disney again waiting until weeks before to make the call, long after many people plunked thousands of dollars down on magical WDW vacations.

I'm REALLY hoping it stays a rumor. Disney parks are known for the pomp and pageantry for EACH visit. And that's always included firework shows.

To NOT have that, as they did before Wishes, always bugged me. It's what punctuates a day at MK...Fireworks over the Castle. I know I am buying into the sappy marketing (or maybe it's just the fact that I'm excited to return to MK after 3 years..) but Disney needs this. It's part of them.

Yes and that is completely possible (making closing 11pm and not midnight). Taking it down to 7pm is completely different and that is what you are claiming (not 100%) could happen.

However, it hasn't always included that. The parks seem to get along just fine for 25 years without nightly fireworks shows.

I should have made myself clearer. EPCOT and MGM has.

MK, however, you are right, has not. Which is odd! Why wouldn't the centerpiece, the crown jewel of WDW NOT have pyro? Even back then it bothered me. I was delighted in 2003 when they made it a every day event. It should stay like that....Why downgrade again?

Edited for comas....

Just to clarify, I'm not saying 74 is wrong, just saying that I dont have any info from anywhere that says the hours are going tt be reduced. Currently, everything I have says no changes.

I didn't mean to imply that you were saying that 74 is wrong. Just pointing out that there is currently conflicting information and 74 admitted his might be incorrect.

I am a newbie to this site. We are planning our 9th trip to MK in September, first in about 8 years. First time for my 44 y.o. sis in law. We were very dissapointed to hear about the early closing. What are wishes?

Wishes is the title of the fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom.

First off, welcome to the boards!

As Mukta said above, Wishes Nighttime Spectacular is the firework display that plays at or around closing time at the Magic Kingdom on a nightly basis, weather permitting.

In the fall and winter, special events like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) take place on some evenings, and the park closes earlier, at 7 p.m. To stay in the park for the special event, you would need an additional 'hard ticket' specific to that event and date. On those nights, a special HalloWishes is performed during the event. The 'regular' Wishes will not be performed.

You can view the hours for Magic Kingdom on Disney's online calendar and see what dates will be closing at 7pm during your trip:
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/magic-kingdom/calendar/

Weather permitting, Wishes should run at closing time each night the rest of the month.

The original poster, WDW1974, has heard a rumor that Magic Kingdom will be closing at 7 p.m. and Wishes will not be shown on some non-MNSSHP nights. At this point, it's not confirmed.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Drum roll please. Wishes is not cutting shows. It will still be presented on ALL non event nights. Hope that clears up all the rumors.

I`ll add to what boo52 says; shows are not being reduced in numbers. There are however plans to reduce the ammount of shells in the regular show. As I understand it not to remove sections, but not to use as many is parts where many are used at the same time. Kind of a thinning out that they obviously hope won`t be noticed.

I also understand Hellfire is cut again from HalloWishes `09 :(
