Leaving MK after Wishes

Does anyone know how crazy it is getting out of the park after Wishes? IS there an insanely long wait for a boat or monorail to get you back to the parking lot? I never seen Wishes and would like to but I am also thinking about keeping my three little ones out later when they are already exhausted. I am trying to avoid any meltdowns at that time of night. Does Disney keep the flow of people moving out of the park? We will be there the first week in September. Thanks for any replies.

Be prepared for packed buses, monorails and ferryboats at that time of night. Also if there is a second spectromagic it can be the same straight after that as on 2 night spectros people tend to do spectro, wishes home, or wishes, spectro, home. I always find watching the second spectro and then if the paark is still open play for a while say half an hour of so after parade is finished and then finally exit the parks, yes there will still be a lot of people around but it won't be as crazy. If staying on site i also tend to have a restful day at the hotel and then head into the park at night. However if you do opt to leave after wishes, take the boat, my family once split up and half did the monorail and the the other half did the boat. mum and i got to the car a good 15 min before my dad and sis and we used the boat

It's extremely crazy getting out after Wishes.

If you do end up seeing it, and you want out of the park as fast as possible, watch from around the Main Street Train Station. When it's over, head out the tunnel and to the Ferry. You won't have the BEST view of Wishes, since many of it's fireworks are actually shot off from inside the park now - but you just have to weigh the options.

If Wishes is early and EMH is afterwards, it won't be SO bad because many people will stay for EMH.

It's very crazy. The last time we saw Wishes we watched for a while, but while it was going on we started making our way out. We would watch and walk, watch and walk. By the end of the show we were outside of the gates walking towards the buses. We got on the first bus this way. We could afford doing it this way because earlier in the week we saw the whole show inside right on Main St. We had easily an hour and half wait that night to get back on the bus.

We had no problem getting out of the MK after wishes 2 weeks ago. We were in the priority viewing area, near the ice-cream parlour on Main street. You just have to walk with the crowd. Our bus was at the bus stop when we got there and we were back at the Beach club 30 mins after Wishes finished.

If you have never seen the show, watch from the hub and not Town Square. And mainly be prepared to wait - even just 15-20 minutes - to let the crowds rush by. Sit down. Take it easy. But be prepared (again, usually) for queues for transport.

But is is so worth it.

If youre worried about the kids being tired Id say mid day go back have them nap, and return to MK so they can watch the show and enjoy it. After Wishes is over you can walk to the Contemporary and catch a cab to your resort. We did this and it was $18 for the 4 of us going to All Star Sports and Im sure The All Star Resorts are the furthest resorts from MK off the top of my head. Unless you wanna hang around for pictures and stuff for a while after Wishes, and watch Kiss Goodnight be prepared for long lines at everything. Honestly a cab is the way to go!

It's nuts after Wishes. If you are staying on property it would be a little better since not everyone heads to the same bus, but the ferry and monorail, it's best to wait the crowd out for a little while.

Although it is nuts after wishes...I have devloped a crazy plan!
You walk out of the MK twords the Contemperary Resort...board the monorail at the contemperary and then your home free to the TTC or your monorail resort!

Thanks for the info. We are going to be driving so my concern was getting on the boat or monorail back to the parking lot. Can you see the show ok near the exit that way we can make a quick getaway?

After 19 visits to the World, we have seen the shows many times and know that it is a mad house after they are done. After a few bad choices, we just sit and watch everybody else leave, we wait at least 30 minutes depending on what time of the year we go. Then, depending on which resort your staying at, we go. So if you are staying ata value resort, give yourself at least 50 minutes, moderate at least 45, and deluxe resorts at least 30. They don't kick you out if your sitting there, they do understand that you are in no hurry to go to the mad house that is transportation. And you get a great photo op at how tha parks look at night after they close and there are barely any people there.

On the day you want to see Wishes, you MUST go back to your resort and let the kiddos rest!! Just go ahead and set aside a few hours for that. Not a guarantee they won't melt down, but it's just about the only insurance policy you have against it! :)

Like the other posters have said, just be prepared to not be in a hurry. Main Street stays open 1 hour after Wishes. Browse through the shops. Have a snack. Just take your time. I personally don't like to be in those kinds of big, pushy, flowing crowds with my LOs and a stroller. If it was just me and DH, I wouldn't mind.

We watch it from outside the gate or near the bus depot. Don't really care about the stirring music (some of you I know are thinking "NOOOOOO"). To me, I just want to see the fireworks.

I vote with others on the thread, find a nice spot to just sit and relax about 1/2 or so after Wishes is over then slowly meander (sp) your way down Main Street towards the transportation mode of choice. Find a bench, enjoy the music and talk about your day. If the kids are tired they will be just as tired standing in line for transportation as staying at the MK a little longer. In the end, you will probably get back to your car in about the same amount of time, but you may be more relaxed. I also like the idea of going to the Contemporary and riding the monorail.

You must catch WISHES from Main Street near Cinderella Castle. It's the only way to see it properly. Like the others said, just wait it out while the crowds leave. It's worth it.

I remember once a couple years ago I waited about 2 hours to get on the boat to goto the Wilderness Lodge. That was really brutal.

Watch Wishes from near the hub on Main Street - just in front of the station. As soon as Wishes ends exit the park and head directly for the parking lot trams.

DO NOT wait around for other guests to leave or head to the shops (as has been suggested) - the park will not clear in 15-20 minutes and a good proportion of guests (now in front of you) will also be heading for the parking lot. Once you get to your car you're then at the back of the line in slow moving traffic.

Beat the queues, plan ahead and exit the moment it ends (return any strollers before the show starts)
