Leaving MK after Wishes

Does anyone know how crazy it is getting out of the park after Wishes?
Its pretty Crazy Depending on where your staying the line for buses could be massive(Pop Century normally has the longest).
IS there an insanely long wait for a boat or monorail to get you back to the parking lot?
We normally go April break when crowds are very high and it wasn't too bad the bus line is worse.
Does Disney keep the flow of people moving out of the park?
Yes and no. inside the MK its like a huge Traffic Jam of people the bus people do they're best though and they are normally loading a new bus every 10-15 minutes.
Advice, Go back to your resort and relax for awhile then go back to the park later. The year we went after my dad had surgury, we watches Wishes in Adventure land near Pirate and besides a few trees in the way, we enjoyed being with a very small crowd.

Another option was last year we couldn't make it to tomorrowland before wishes so at the end of wishes we went to tomorrowland and rode SM and Buzz. this worked out great because there was no lines to go to the attractions, and when we were done the bus for all star was waiting for us with no line.

Expect ALOT of people filling out after the fireworks. We usually just wander around main street for about 45 mins to let the crowds die down. We just meander through shops and sit on the curb. Its just nice to sit and people watch and it can be very entertaining. They run out of the park like they are going to get locked in or they want to avoid crowds leaving. I wouldn't mind being locked in overnight.:) We been there at 4am, so what would a few extra hours hurt anyways.:)

Agreed! I think we'll do the same thing. Just stick around as long as we can; why rush? :D

how wise would it be to catch the monorail to the poly and walk to the car park from there?

im guessing most people get monorail direct for the TTC but how busy do the hotels side of the monorail get?

just remember that if you want to see the true impact of Wishes, you NEED to be in front of the castle. it's worth waiting a while afterward to get back to the hotel.

the show is just not the same if you are worried about getting a bus. just make the excitement and crowd a positive part of your vacation. after all, even if you have to wait awhile in the park, you are in the Magic Kingdom.

embrace the Magic!

I never seen Wishes and would like to but I am also thinking about keeping my three little ones out later when they are already exhausted. I am trying to avoid any meltdowns at that time of night. Does Disney keep the flow of people moving out of the park? We will be there the first week in September. Thanks for any replies.

It was extremely crowded after Wishes but it wasnt that bad getting out of the park at all. Just make sure to take the Monorail that goes through the resort first, 70% of the crowd will take the other one.

Thanks for the advice everyone. We are going to try our hardest and hope our little ones cooperate to stay and watch Wishes. I wish we were going tomorrow.

Yeah, I'd suggest starting to ease toward the exit as the show is ending...
Although the ending is spectacular and I'd hate for a Wishes first-timer to miss it.... Well, just try to get a spot as close to the exit as possible that still has a good view. Be prepared to get there early

Oh Lord, you should've seen us trying to get out of the park before Spectro let out last time  We were riding the Railroad to save our feet, and JUST as we were pulling into the Main St. station, we could see the last floats going by. So we BOOKED down the ramp and out of the park before the crowds :ROFLOL: You would've thought we were running for our lives

Well, you could do it. You could get off at Poly then walk all the way over to the TTC then to the car. It's very hard to walk from the Poly entrance (which is right under the monotrail stop) to the MK lot. It's very close, but there's a lot of fencing involved.

The hotel side still gets pretty crowded. One of my longest waits last year was trying to go from MK to our room at Poly, and it was before Wishes even started.

After wishes, most people that choose to take the monorail to the TTC flock to the express line. I always take the resort monorail. I guess people think that you can only take that one if youre staying at one of the resorts. It has a shorter line, and one semi quick stop and youre at the TTC with out waiting forever in the express line queue.

Last year, my one daughter was VERY cranky so my DW took her back to our hotel right after the show. I stayed with my other daughter in the park for awhile (around 45min-one hour). Just hanging out in the MK after the show was great. We then decided to leave and got back to our room 5 minutes after DW got home. She had a lonmg wait and took her forever to get back to the room. So, I would wait it out and rerlax and then get on the old bus for the ride back.

We stayed at the Polynesian on our last three trips and although the lines for the monorail going to the TTC were alot longer, the resort monorail was pretty busy too, so much so that at, or near closing, we started taking the launch that goes to the Poly and Grand Floridian.

One of our most memorable viewing of Wishes was from the launch. We got on the boat just as Wishes was beginning and the skipper asked if anyone wanted to watch the fireworks. All onboard, except for one woman, said a resounding "yes" and he said "majority rules" and very slowly went across the Seven Seas Lagoon and we arrived at the Grand Floridian just as Wishes was ending. Yes, it took a while to get to the resort that night, but it was worth it.

you can also see the end of wishes from the Bus Stop. its not the best view even but after a day at the park with little ones it might be best to be the first on the bus(you also then get a seat!!!

We were just there last week and saw Wishes 3 times. If the park is open past the showing of Wishes, wait it out and go ride one of the rides. A good number of people exit right after and then its easier to leave. Find you a good spot, watch it then head to the closest ride. It won't have a long wait. Then, leave the park about 30 mins after. We did this and never had a crowd issue leaving. Last week Wishes was at 10 and the park closed at either 11 or 12 depending on the day (not including EMH).

We left after 10:30 and did not have a long bus wait nor did we encounter the mad rush out the front gate. Our crowd levels were low and in Sept the crowds should not be terrible.

Hope this helps!

in the past...

We have taken the boat , actually I believe its on cables.. across from the parking area to Mk.. this really is the fastest way into and out of that park. the rule of thumb is that if the monorail line is down to the ground floor,, take the ferry.. its shockingly faster..

it is not as near as fun as the monorail. so you save that trip for some other part of your day or time at the kingdom.

FYI, the ferry and all the boats in Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon are free-floating vessels being completely piloted by a person. There's no cable, track, rails, etc. (Though when the large ferries head into Bay Lake to go to the maintenance docks north of the Contemporary, there's a very specific channel they have to follow so that they don't run aground)

Same goes for the Sassagoula River boats to POR, POFQ, SSR and OKW and the Friendships in Epcot and the Epcot resorts. They're all free-floating vessels.
