I agree that the LaL stones are missing *something*, but I can't quite put my finger on it. They're just a little too plain. Maybe if they had cutouts in them, or a little bit of decoration on the top or sides.......maybe more of a round curvature on the top of them? I bet something probably did get cut from their budget that would have made a difference. I thought I remembered the agreement being that they would stay in that place for 20 years, and then Disney had the option of moving them after that.

You forgot the fine print.

Wouldn't it be hysterical for some of the haters to wake up one morning and find the evil tombstones planted in their front yards??? Could you imagine the panic and hysteria of these people trying to weave their way thru the creapy/spooky garden-o-stone so they can "find" the street out front that was so horribly obstructed????

Really, y'all. Much ado about nuttin'. Put on your big girl drawers and get over it. At Disney things are always changing. Wait around long enough and the changes you don't like will change again. The problem is when they do change you'll likely complain about that, too. Make an effort to find something you like in everything. Life's too short to spend it wallowing in the miseries of your dislikes.

By your avatar, I can see you are biased, but for the 99.9% of the other people who go there and didn't buy one of those ridiculous tiles, I'd like to say that those slabs are the ugliest thing on all of Disney property and need to go. The entrance is supposed to entice you into starting to dream about your entry into a new world, not creep you out feeling you are walking through a graveyard. The fact that probably only 10% of the space they set aside on those slabs was actually sold should tell you that a lot of people agree.

The graveyard is horrible.

Doesn't this view look better?

EPCOT_Center%27s_Spaceship_Earth_on_opening_day.jpg

First, let me say that I am not biased. The fact that I have a tile on the LAL Stones is not what drives my feelings about them. Rather, I have a tile on LAL BECAUSE I felt so strongly about them. And while the photo you posted does look nice, it doesn't mean the view in the one I posted is any less appealing. By adding LAL to EPCOT, Disney only did what every other aspect of this world does on a daily basis, CHANGE!!! And every time any change happens, there is sure to be someone who will "Not Like It". But, the flip side is there will be those who "Do Like It". Granted there will come a day when Disney will decide it is time for LAL to go. When that time comes I may not like the change that follows. However, it is not my place to decide that something I don't like should or should not be where it is; If it is to be at all. Therefore, the burden falls on those that don't like change (Or LAL ) to get over it & live with it until the next change that suits their tastes comes along. :zipit:

I love change. I was very happy when the wand came down. And as far as I knew, Disney is publicly owned. It is not a dictatorship as you describe it.

They are ugly but the people who bought them shouldn't be shafted.

Dream on...

Also... I wonder how many actually know who designed LaL? I bet many don't know or if they do, don't actually understand the history of the man. He was basically the primary designer of the master plans for many of the parks and many attractions. He brought to fruition the gradient changes of themes between the lands of Magic Kingdom. He designed Main Street, Cinderella Caste, Space Mountain and yes, even Spaceship Earth. In fact, the design of LaL was to enhance SSE and provide a grand movement of architecture for the entrance.

So, for all those "haters" out there... come back when you have a hundredth of his talent and experience.

To suggest that I need a certain level of knowledge about the designer or the history of other things said designer created before I am allowed to have an opinion seems a bit odd.

It also seems odd that such a practically perfect in every way attraction would already be showing signs of aging, quite a few of the tiles are faded to the point they are hard to read/see.

Personally I hope Disney decides to move the tiles with or without the granite slabs, to some other hopefully more attractive location. My ignorance of/about the designer not withstanding I believe they look out of place where they are and detract from SSE and certainly don't fit the theme of the entrance plaza to the future. I visit quite a lot and have had the tiles included in the package price several times and have opted not to ever use it because I didn't want to be a party to something I thought was a negative. The MK bricks on the other had I enjoy and have purchased bricks for friends and family in the past. Having said all of that, if Disney simply discards the tiles without giving them some place of honor around Epcot (and by place of honor I mean some place that the average person would come across them) with the appropriate level of reverence then it would be a complete rip off toward the people that bought them with an expectation. Moving them to some obscure corner where average people don't see them would also be a rip off.

Who said Disney was a dictatorship. I simply said they CHANGE as does the rest of the world.Furthermore, you just proved my comments to be correct. You Hated the wand & was Happy when they took it down. So now you want to make everybody else miserable because something else you don't like is still around. Who's trying to be the Dictator now.

I feel ripped off everytime I walk by them and am forced to look at at all those mugs! :hurl:

While I admit I liked the wand, You don't see me ranting about the fact that it was taken down. In fact, even after you brought it up, I still did not complain. I simply noted your obvious happiness that it was gone. I for one have no problem with change. As was posted earlier in this thread, I choose to find the positives in all things, whether I like them or not. For if I dwell on the things I don't lik, I would be one miserable person. :(

Well perhaps youll choose your surgeon more carefully next time you have a bit of work done.

And thinking of another post how much of a dullard do you have to be not to be able to walk in a straight line to get past? Well I suppose you could be a former contestant from that model show where the "challenge" was the cat walk.

Bring back the wand!

LaL never really bothered me. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either. The only thing I want is for them to take those fake 2D slabs off of SSE's legs. If you think LaL was a bad idea, I think those 2D slabs are about 250 times worse.

I think the stones look really cool and futuristic. What I don't care for is the little cheesy pictures of everyone. I know that was the point, but I think they should just keep the cool looking stones and move all the little picture plates to the back of the WOL building.

i strongly dislike the tombstones in front of Epcot, I dislike the location, and I dislike how they are so tall that even me at 6' 4'' still get lost in them sometimes. I miss the old Epcot entrance, it was amazing, this is my opinion, I have a LaL picture as well and I don't give anything if they remove it because I dislike them. Epcot Enthusiasm is what I call it. I like Epcot like it was in the early 90's the first time I visited (i am 17) and I really hate the look today with the tombstones, they are in the way of pictures, people, and everything else. I'd be happy to see them go!!!
