Leave a Legacy at Epcot

How do you feel about Leave a Legacy at EPCOT Center?

  • Keep it! It's interesting to see all the names and dates and to look for ours.

  • Plus it! Add some trees or something. It's nice, but far too barren and unwelcoming.

  • Scrap it! Tombstones belong at the Haunted Mansion, not EPCOT Center.

I don't think people are griping about the memorials themselves. It's the presentation. It has closed down and closed off a large entrance space into the park. It looks like a graveyard.

If there was a different approach to the presentation, I don't think it'd be so bad. However, it is what it is.... so all we can do it deal.

:\
I agree that is why I say move them (the little Plaques ) do not destroy them I think hey are an eyesore truth be told. 50-75% of the space is empty as well.

Leave a Legacy is much more than a marketing trick. It's a memorial.

Shouldn't we all take a moment while entering the park to pay homage to those poor paying guests braver than we? It's a wonderful way to honor the fallen who gave their lives for Epcot.

I used to tell my little sister that it was a memorial for all the people that died riding on Mission: Space.

I like the walk around the world bricks but am not crazy about the leave a legacy tiles. My wife and I even have one but only because we got it free in a Disney vacation package deal. Disney, once again decided after the Walk around the world bricks were so succesful, that they would make a ton more money with the LAL tiles. Well they didn't sell well and the tombstone looking things aren't even that well liked. Another case of Disney trying to get rich quick. I have to laugh because they finally gave up and so half the tiles were never sold.

is out of the question that they can remove these things? or did they promise they would be there for a certain amount of years? cause it just kills the entrance so much.

They were to be displayed publicly for 20 years, I believe. That could be anywhere, not just where they are now. I don't think there was a requirement for them to be in that specific location.

I say move them onto something a bit more cheery. and out of the front of the park.

I'm in agreement. I miss the grand feeling of the vast open area that drew you into the entry plaza. With the fountain (w/obelisk) and SSE it felt like all things were possible including the most incredible of mind-blowing ideas. You floated thru. You didn't navigate. Then the promise of what lay beyond the eyeshot really made the entry like raising a curtain. It was amazing. I miss that.

But, my "babies" are on a tile and I do have my sentiments there. Ya know?

Doesn't bother me at all. Think it would be nice to leave them there for the people that have a plaque. Not harming anyone or effecting/ taking up valuable space.

So you don't think that the parks aesthetics set the tone and ambiance of the park?
Why are you being obnoxious about it? Clearly not what i;m saying. I'm saying i don't think it cheapens the parks. You think it does. We have different opinions, which is fine so don't be rude about it.

So having a discussion is being obnoxious...I'm not trying to be rude, just pointing out that just because you see no problem doesn't mean that there isn't a major design flaw.

Imagineers spent months/years creating an experience that began with your entrance into the park. Can you imagine the same type thing stuck in front of the Magic Kingdom? Yes they kind of did with the brick pavers , but that was very unobtrusive and not blocking any view of the entry.

Still obnoxious?

Perhaps you are too young to remember EPCOT and the grandeur that once was? Or a MGM without a hat blocking the well thought out view?

Your reply is absolutely ridiculous! You've gone from taking my "it would be nice to keep it for the people who have a place/ Doesn't look offensive" comment to talking about imagineers and the grandeur of Epcot. So yes. Still obnoxious! Get off your high horse and just accept that not everyone has the same opinion as you. Ridiculous!

Not only that, but there are generations AFTER you that feel the plaques are a part of Epcot. Disney can't just aim to please the older generation. :banghead:

The widespread dislike of the entry design suggests it is more than personal taste. Despite what some people to tell themselves, designs do hit upon qualities that are more objective than subjective that then demonstrate their widespread acceptance or dislike, even if for specific reasons unknown to the guest.
