Leave a Legacy at Epcot

How do you feel about Leave a Legacy at EPCOT Center?

  • Keep it! It's interesting to see all the names and dates and to look for ours.

    Votes: 31 18.8%
  • Plus it! Add some trees or something. It's nice, but far too barren and unwelcoming.

    Votes: 32 19.4%
  • Scrap it! Tombstones belong at the Haunted Mansion, not EPCOT Center.

The widespread dislike of the entry design suggests it is more than personal taste. Despite what some people to tell themselves, designs do hit upon qualities that are more objective than subjective that then demonstrate their widespread acceptance or dislike, even if for specific reasons unknown to the guest.
Ok, not disputing that. Don't think you can really know that though since we are on a forum where 80% of the users only have negative things to say, but hey.

Your reply is absolutely ridiculous! You've gone from taking my "it would be nice to keep it for the people who have a place/ Doesn't look offensive" comment to talking about imagineers and the grandeur of Epcot. So yes. Still obnoxious! Get off your high horse and just accept that not everyone has the same opinion as you. Ridiculous!

Not only that, but there are generations AFTER you that feel the plaques are a part of Epcot. Disney can't just aim to please the older generation. :banghead:
I'm so sorry that you do not understand English and can't seem to get your head out from the sand to understand concepts that you obviously have not gotten to in your schooling yet.

*rides my horse further up that hill*

I say keep it, my almost-husband Tony has a plaque there in memory of his father that passed away. Disney World was their place and was a huge part of their family... he visits it every time he goes and I think it would be rather sad to see it go. I agree that its unattractive, maybe there could be a way that they could move the plaques... I just know that Tony likes having a little piece of his dad in WDW, so I could look past the unattractiveness of it just knowing that.

My parents signed up for this before any of it was built, but when they finally saw it they said Disney could keep the $50 fee if they just got rid of those things because they were so ugly

Not sure how it worked but if Disney allowed over 550000 guests to buy personalized tiles and (if all sold at $50.00 a piece) between 1991 and 2007. That is $27,500,00. Did not realize it went that long in time for sales. I wonder if they restarted the program now, how well would they sell?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you not allowed to write anything death/memorial-ish on the tiles? There is one for my cousin there who passed away from cancer, and I believe it says something along the lines of "our princess" on it. I think my Grandpa said at the time that they couldn't put "Rest in Peace" or anything like that, but he's known to exaggerate so who knows. If that's the case, I just think it's strange to make this structure that looks like some kind of a war memorial and expect people to not make it into a memorial basically. Even if it was designed differently and people still wrote things to remember loved ones it wouldn't be so depressing looking.

The one on there for my father in law says something like "we love you dad. Always, Tony, Tera and Tracy" so it isn't like a RIP or in memory of type thing but it was created in memory of him the year after he died.

Back in 2005, I booked a stay at POP and they gave my boyfriend and I a free "leave a legacy" with our package. We went back two times after that and never even bothered to go see it. I think all they do is cause traffic buildup at the front of the park... throw them over in the boneyard at the Backlot Tour. They could use some new material. :p

I've never seen "traffic buildup" for the Leave a Legacy tiles. As so many who don't have tiles like to point out, not that many people stop to look at them.

Wow, another thing I had no idea about! I keep missing things at Epcot! Just got back from my 4th trip and I had no idea about this.

Thank you! Amazing how this person (and thousands more like her no doubt) managed to get in and out of Epcot without feeling "blocked," or "obstructed," or "horrified," or like she is "going thru a masoleum." In fact, they weren't even noticed, which I'm sure is the more common perception despite the protests here.

You are right about that- it seems those who don't have a personal stake in it feel it should be ripped out just because they don't personally care.

Meanwhile, despite how you correctly catergorized the attitudes here- the fact is that nearly 40% of the votes want it to stay or to be plussed. Hardly a case of "objective" dislike by all.

It's just the way they are set-up. It has nothing to do with people actually looking at them. They cause a bottle effect and there have been many of times that your forced to stand there and wait because because are taking pictures and you can't get through... at least in my experiences.

I've not even bothered looking at their responses now. It's pathetic. But you're right. I don't really mind if it stays or goes, it just personally, doesn't offend me. Would be cool to see what they could do with the space.

And thank you for being the only one with manners/ sense. :)

Can't help but wonder how many LaL customers had things turn out badly....

They go to Epcot young and in love/stupid and pay the $38 to leave their legacy....then a few years later, they've been married and divorced with allegations of infidelity and domestic violence and are using the kid as leverage to get back at each other.

What are you talking about?
They're happy and together.
