Pre-Trip Lawdy, Lawdy, Look Who's Turning 40 - PTR

I was really tempted to call this the “What the heck are we doing?!?!!?-PTR,” but the reality…this trip is my 40th birthday present to me. Still, it’s one crazy convoluted mess, so at some point you’ll probably catch on to the reason behind the secondary title.

WHO...

Ok...enough about that...there will plenty of time to address the planning insanity.
If you're new to my reports, I'm Sandy...

9037036919_cff2edd2e5_n.jpg

I've been going to WDW since 1985 - even lived in Florida for a while. Soooooo, let's just say I've been to WDW a number of times. :D Beyond that, my 40th is about a month before this trip and this is my gift to me. I'd considered going on my actual 40th; however, I promised myself that our next trip would involve MNSSHP...so, September it is. And if you're familiar with the Cake Talk...I promise you....THERE WILL BE CAKE! In fact, there will be 2 CAKES! But more on that later.

Also, I'm usually the one behind the camera, so you won't be seeing much of me when it comes to the actual TR. Hey, I at least take TONS of pictures (like thousands!). And if you do see me, I doubt you will ever see my hair down since it's usually up on top of my head in the heat and humidity.
Like this...
9036986067_862e1be670_m.jpg

...although, I may add a flower to make it ... well ... cute.

Hey, we live in Texas so heat is our norm, but we also approach it wisely and hair up like this is a great way to keep cool when not wearing a hat to keep my head from baking in the sun.

OK, enough about me (for now)...let's talk about the girls.

284299_10201120529723496_1246768217_n.jpg

The brunette is Kendall...she'll be turning 7 about a month before the trip...and the blonde is Sammie...who will be turning 5 a little over a month after the trip. This will be the girls' 4th trip to WDW.

The girls are total characters. Seriously. Kendall is a drama queen, but insists she's no diva (yeah right!). I could be really mean and post a video of a more recent meltdown, but I'll spare her. Sammie is our tomboy and quiet little trouble maker. Just recently, she tried to see how much toilet paper she could flush down each toilet in the house. Too bad I noticed we were suddenly down 6 rolls AFTER her experiment.

Next up...DH...

He likes, but does not love WDW. He's made it very clear that he's bored with trips to Disney. I told him I'd planned this trip for just me and the girls, but he was invited to come if he'd like. Well, when the first of two SWA fare sales hit, I cornered him on the matter and he agreed to go. Ultimately, I think he has fun and enjoys seeing the girls having such a good time and experiencing new things as they grow. So, I spent several months of having this trip booked not knowing if he'd be joining us... and if things go well job wise...he may still have to bow out. Soooo...really, who knows.

Beyond us...

We are actually being joined by 5...YES 5 ... more family members on day 3 of our trip. My parents will be joining us along with my brother's family. They all live in south Florida, so it's a fairly easy trip up for them. Well, assuming my brother & fam are still able to make it come trip time. They have a bunch of stuff going on and while they've booked lodging and all have orders in for discounted tickets through their employers (perks of living in FL), there's still a chance they'll back out. So, if DH has to stay home and if they back out...we could go from a party of 9 to a party of 5. Insanity I tell you!

When and Where...
Well, the when is fairly drama free...

Sept. 19 - 23

I just rebooked our air, so our arrival and departure changed, but I think it's for the best...since it saved us an additional $512. So instead of arriving at 11:45a, we're arriving around 2:50pm. I don't see that being a huge deal. On the flipside, we'll be getting a lot more time on our last day. I think our original flight had us leaving MCO around 2pm, but now we're leaving just after 7pm. So, more time with my family and more time to play on our last day.

So, that's the when, but the where is complicated...and still bugs me. :(

We were originally booked at the Contemporary...my fave. I was hoping fall discounts would mirror summer discounts so I could splurge on night 1 and stay in an MK facing room in the tower...then switch to the garden wing...but NO...the Sept discounts did not mirror the summer ones. On top of that, Mousesavers (via Small World Vacations) posted some incorrect info on the discounts for the Contemporary. They posted that MK view was 5% (which is correct) and standard rooms were 20% (which was incorrect). I put off calling by a day b/c I didn't know what to do. Overnight, I decided to switch to WL with a 30% off discount since it's a greater savings and it's DH's fave. The % never came up when I was on the phone with Disney that day, but I had to call about something else the next day and found out that the Contemporary discount was 30% for all non-MK facing rooms. Unfortunately, everything in the garden wing was gone and a full trip in the tower was more than I wanted to spend...sooooooo, WL it was. I did complain to Mousesavers and they corrected the problem, but I wonder if I would have gotten the room I wanted at the 30% discount if they'd posted the correct info.

So, now we're staing in WL. Most of our trip was geared for staying at the Contemporary, but WL isn't a huge transition. We'll be staying in a bunk bed room with a woods view. I figure at least it'll make it fun for the kids. I've also asked for 5th floor on the MK side.

Far from a good picture, but we had a nice view from our standard view room the last time we stayed at WL.
5264648958_2f2ed4cf37_m.jpg

I know most people love WL and I shouldn't whine, but I really didn't care for the bedding on our last visit. The room also felt very cramped. Don't get me wrong, the resort is stunning...I just had some issues. Imagine that. I am also wondering how it will feel to have a non-holiday stay at WL. Last time we stayed there...we had a room over the lobby and this beauty greeted us every time we left our room.

5265579207_4f85628682.jpg

Still, we had a great time popping over for drinks at Trout Pass during our summer trip in 2011.... and clearly, there was no tree up at that point.

We are also going to try going stroller free this trip and should have less to bring clothing wise since it's a warm weather trip....so, hopefully that will help the room not feeling as cramped.

Honestly, the real lodging drama is the rest of the family. My parents and brother also lost out on the Contemporary discount, feel that 20% is too little for the Poly, and refuse to stay again at WL... so they're now staying at the Dolphin. Seriously---what's going on here!!!!????!!!! This is really putting a monkey wrench in all of our early morning plans. We'll manage, but not without certain people whining about it. I guess at least they got a really awesome AAA rate...like under $150/nt.

COMING UP...

Calling it a night, but coming up:
Dining
Cakes
Surprises - and to think I said I'd take a break from these
Special Goodies for the Girls
MNSSHP
The Tickets
The School Issues
...and a host of other things.

Thanks for reading :)

Adorable! Yes, she does have the hair and coloring for an adorable Snow White.

What did you get from your Disney Store trip? Did you get any costumes or trip items?

Thanks! One way or another, she will be "the fairest one of all!" :D Actually, I'm going on Thursday. I'm hoping to get in all of my baking tomorrow night so I can be there when the outlet store opens at 9am. If I don't find what I want at the outlet, I'm already watching a dress on ebay that's a really good deal...at least for what it is.

:arghh:DISNEY OUTLET OUTING = WASTE
(of time, gas, sanity...)

Sooooo, after a VERY productive start to the day I had a highly useless trip to the Disney Outlet. In hindsight, I would have been better off going to the big glorious (and highly MAGICAL) Disney Store in the Houston Galleria. Seriously, there's a lot of pixie dust flowing in that store...the outlet on the other hand, not so much.

In any event, after getting ALL of my back to school supply shopping done in under 40 min and under $40 I was feeling optimistic about my venture to the outlet. The outlet is about 40 min away (Disney Store only about 25), but we got some good things there last time. This time, not a darn thing was on sale beyond a small display of t-shirts. Yeah- they had costumes, but all were full price. They didn't even have sale flip flops like the ones they're selling online. What's really crazy, there were 2 employees in the outlet store at the time. On our last visit, all of the shop workers had that typical Disney nice...but these guys didn't even acknowledge me...not once! And I was in there for 10 min!!!

So, I cut my losses and drove home...and resorted to my ebay plan.

First up...Kendall's costume...
$T2eC16J,!ygE9s7HHpMFBRJlI)lovw~~60_57.JPG

I found an ebay seller who was selling new Disney Parks authentic costumes for $39.99/free shipping. I think this one normally sells for about $65, so it's a good price. The Disney Store version was $44 and are never the same quality level as the park dresses...so, I'm feeling really good about this. And the truth...they sold out of Belle in her size before I was ready to buy.

For Sammie...

$T2eC16FHJHYFFkSuKV1HBR3MI!fkPw~~60_3.JPG

The costume was $15.97 (Disney Store's costume- while much nicer- was like $56!) and the mask was $4.99. The mask is coming from Hong Kong, but it should be here by Aug 16th...so we should be good. And if for some reason it turns out to be a piece of junk a) I didn't put a ton of $ into it b) the actual costume has a mask for backup purposes (which might also come in handy if the plastic mask is hot).

Sammie also agreed to Spiderman the other night...so I know she'll be happy. Kendall...well, my Akershus peace offering should help...and considering my parents joined us there for lunch in 2010 (and felt awkward)...they are just fine on skipping lunch with us this trip.

I haven't done anything with the Spiderman and Belle ears yet, but I've been working on some ideas (and dealing with some frustrations. For the Spiderman ears, Sammie has a brand new pair of Spiderman jeans. They don't have any details below the pockets, so I'm thinking about turning them into shorts...the white tee is also the perfect match for these. Kendall is a bigger conundrum. I have a pale blue shirt with some random rhinestones that is the perfect match for the blue in the Belle ears...but I can't find it!!! :arghh: I know it would be MUCH better than her yellow shirt. So, I'm going to keep hunting for her blue shirt, b/c I'd like to pair it with this...

$(KGrHqNHJBkFHKk1c2ZJBR27rsEQFw~~60_3.JPG

...I just can't decide if I want to risk it and buy through a foreign seller. They say it could be here as late as Sept 6th and I've had some foreign shipments take MUCH longer than the noted date. I could get a local tutu for cheaper, but even softer tutus are too uncomfortable for all day wear- so just have to make a decision on the pettiskirt. The foreign seller has a 99% rating, but she's a high volume ebay seller. She's had 13 negatives over the last month and 32 neutrals...but 7 involved shipping problems...i.e. several non-receipts and several where it took 2 months. I probably should just pay the $16 and buy from the US seller.

OK- time to go bake and make fondant. I should have been done baking last night, but DH took some of my flour over the weekend...which only left be enough flour for 1.5 rounds of baking .

Later on- I get to take Daisy doggy for her first of two canine flu shots. (glad I remembered to do this early or we would have been in BIG trouble with boarding...flu shot is the new requirement).

All in all, it's not even noon here and it's been a very productive day.

Sounds like you have had an awesome day! I have not made much headway on Disney related stuff, but alas school and work start next week for us so I have been consumed with that. I love all your choices. Think I would definitely go with the domestic seller. Better to be safe than sorry. And Ebay is of no help when you don't receive shipment.

I've never had to do it with an international seller, but I've had success with Ebay getting my $ back in these scenarios for domestic sellers. I have a "little" Lenox porcelain holiday ornament obsession (and by little, I mean I went out and bought myself a 6' artificial tree and will be building a train platform so that I have a special "scene" specifically for just my stuff ;)). I've had a couple of ornaments go missing in transit and sellers who won't get back to me...Ebay has always gotten me my $ back.

Still...I don't need the headache. For an extra $10 or so, I'll get the one in the US!

Yes I agree with @Jessica Meier go with the domestic seller. Happy shopping.

Agreed!:)

Still- sounds like you've been busy, so I'm sure it's been a productive day. I think all of our school staff goes back in next week b/c the 12th is the first day we can go in to drop off supplies and get teacher assignments. I get the impression that they had a lot of kids last year who shouldn't be there, so I need to remember my proof of residency this year. OY! At least the supplies are done and my mom is buying all of their back to school uniforms.

Always a good thing when the Gmas by the clothes! My mom bought Cadence a ton last week when she was in Seattle. She will need winter clothes b/c the stuff I saved from last year just is too small. I just went through all of that in her closet and drawers. I have a half closet full of gently used size 5s and 6s. :( I just tried on her shoes that we bought a month ago. Won't last much longer. And to top it off she slept 12 hours last night and refuses to eat which are both sure signs she is going through a growth spurt. ARGHHHHH!

My mom always feels bad that my nephew gets stuff from her on a daily basis since he lives so close- so this is one of the ways she makes up for it. She's awesome :) I guess this is at least one of the benefits of the girls growing more slowly...we can use things for quite a while. I guess if you think she's hitting another spurt, probably best to buy another size up. The shoe part can be really frustrating b/c shoes add up fast. I try and buy from Little Monkey Toes when they have big sales, but still- it can get pricey if she outgrows shoes more quickly.

My Mom is awesome too! Cadence stayed the same size for almost 12 months, then in May she grew a whole size and so we had to buy Tennis shoes and sandals and crocs and her ballet shoes right before recital. Now just a little over 2 months later she has outgrown them all and we are gonna have to buy them all again except for the flip flops. :( So frustrating.

Oh wow! I think I'd cry. 4 pairs of shoes almost instantly outgrown...yeah- I'd cry. But what can you do? I guess you might at least be able to consign the items and get some $ back if she wasn't able to wear them much.

Yeah...tears and panic. Between starting school on Wednesday and all that entails, paying the Disney trip off and now thinking about the amount of clothes and shoes she is gonna need over the next few months is about to give me a heart attack. Thank goodness I am going to be bringing in some extra money thanks to the new job. But it is still nerve wracking. I have a friend coming over tomorrow to look through her clothes that she has outgrown. She has a 3 year old and 5 year old who are both smaller than Cadence so hoping she can use a lot of them and I can get $50 to $100. We shall see.

Don't mean to scare you but the whole clothes thing gets worse. My feet were cold the other morning and I put on my ds' slippers to warm up. He turned 11 Tuesday! I'm also feeding him and his older brother, ever see teen boys eat meat! At least girls don't eat as much! But it's all worth every dime:)

@figmentfan423 I can only imagine. My daughter is a grazer, she eats all day and at times I feel like it is never ending. It's constantly "I'm hungry". I will just be glad when her growth spurts get more spread out.

@Jessica Meier - I hope you're able to sell your friend some of her clothes. While I know you would have preferred to get more mileage out of the clothes and shoes, at least getting something back should help. I know one day we'll be in that boat... we just have very slow growing girls, for now. I don't know if it's because of their metabolism, genetics or school schedule, but their hunger is like clockwork. @figmentfan423 my girls definitely eat more like what you're describing. I have to use tricks just to get them to eat more. We have pics from last trip of one of the Chipmunks feeding Sammie at Garden Grill b/c she just decided dinner wasn't necessary. She at least ate a decent amount once she had that first "Munk-fed" bite...still, it's a challenge.

Posting this now b/c I'm hoping to get in a whole lotta napping tomorrow (very VERY sleep deprived due to some phase Sammie is currently in and using to torture us :arghh:).

While not exactly Disney related, the Man of Steel cake is done...
9427498474_e9cfa75142.jpg

I'm having a love/hate relationship with it. At least it will be $ to go towards WDW. :)

I also ironed on the Spiderman ears and found the jeans...

9416319631_96240b5c09.jpg

I talked to my mom about it and we both agree that cutting these off into shorts would be the best. So, at some point in the near future- I will be turning these jeans into shorts. My friend also suggested I pack Sammie's red pettiskirt with the black and white accents just in case she wants to make it more girly. I doubt it though.

I also gave up on finding Kendall's blue rhinestone shirt. So, I bought the following to go with the Belle ears. This stuff is supposed to arrive by the 8th...soooooo...I should have this all done by next weekend.

PETMD04CHEV-2T.jpg
PETTANKLG09-1.jpg
and just picture the shirt with this...
9369237826_7c70040a0a.jpg

I think it should come together nicely and hopefully will be recognized by Kendall as a nice peace offering.

OK- I should probably clean up some more and try and get some sleep.

Needing to vent...since the crying phase has passed....

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

I was on my way to deliver the cake when a big truck cut off the line of traffic. We weren't going very fast...maybe 10-15mph, but I had to slam on my brakes...and the cake flew. I managed to brace it with my arm, but it left a big dent in the side of the cake, cracked the S in like 10 different places, and it slid off onto the towel protecting the seat a bit. The last part is only an issue b/c it sloughed off some of the bottom of the cake...which I tossed onto the floor...naturally making the client wonder if it fell on the floor. He still bought the cake, but I feel awful and now I'm worried if the towel left and fuzzies on the bottom of the cake. I'm just absolutely mortified. Thinking about offering a free cake to him of equal value for his next event. Obviously, I'm thankful that I wasn't in an actual auto wreck, but I'm just so upset over the cake. :(

I guess at least there is one totally unrelated high note related to the trip. The girls were talking costumes with me after consoling me. Kendall said "Sammie, you're going to be Ironman- right?" In reply, Sammie said "No, I'm going to be Spiderman because he has better light up eyes." Sammie then asked Kendall what she was going to be and she first replied Belle ... then she said "No, actually I promised mommy I'd be Snow White, so I'm going to be Snow White."

That is awesome! Not about the cake...the cake looked awesome but hate to hear about the delivery. I know how devastating it can be when you put that much work into something and then some random thing happens and there is nothing you can do. Sucks big time. I can't wait to see Kendall & Sammie's outfits together. Maybe you can get Kendall to work her magic on Sammie with the pettiskirt so you don't have to cut the jeans. :) I have to finish Cadence's Mulan shirt. Had wanted it on a purple shirt but the one I had I ruined when I tried to embroider and it was a little snug anyways. So black it will be. Hoping I can find a really cool purple and pink skirt to go with it! First, get through tomorrow. First day of school!

A lot of people- especially guys- really liked the cake. It's a good piece to have in a portfolio too, but I told DH that he's driving for any future cake deliveries. I offered the guy a free cake for a future event, but so far I haven't heard anything from him.

Part of me just wants to bring Sammie's pettiskirt and skip the jeans since it means less work for me. They also got to see their costumes today...which is fine since they just assume they're for Halloween. I often buy our Halloween costumes over the summer, so at least this is nothing out of the ordinary for us. Sammie's light up mask isn't due to arrive until next week, but she liked her costume- minus the fabric mask. My only complaint is that the Spiderman costume is very thin- like I'm going to have to put her in leggings and a tank top underneath. Kendall's costume on the other hand is just downright beautiful :inlove: and thankfully she loved it too.

Shoes are our next issue. Sammie has a pair of boots like the ones below that I think would go really well with the Spiderman costume as well as the Spiderman shirt and pettiskirt.

She disagrees, but I think they'd be a really good match in both cases.

Kendall is more difficult b/c I don't think her red cowboy boots are right for Snow White and the one pair of mary janes she owns that are suitable style wise are pewter- so not a good option color wise. She wants actual costume shoes, but those are not suitable for the parks or trick or treating...so we'll see.

That's too bad that the purple shirt didn't work out for Mulan. I'm sure the black will be nice too. What kind of skirt are you looking for? I saw this pink and purple tutu on ebay, but it's also zebra print- not exactly Mulan-ish.

Hope things went well with your car today and good luck with the start of school tomorrow! You guys start early! Not that it's a bad thing...we just don't go back until the 26th. Hopefully you'll have a great bunch of kids. :)
