Disney released an update today to the MyDisney Experience App, I'm guessing in preparation for this test, the details for the update are:

I will note that the option to scan passes doesn't work for AP, nor does it support adding AP to your affiliations. Not sure when the heck they are going to get around to that, it sucks I can't access the Passholder site because I have a newer AP :(
Please make sure to Delight in the streamlined linking for Resort Reservations. The rest is just ok, but if you don't Delight in linking, you are missing out on Disney Magic™!

@articos - Thanks, I'll look forward to your response.

I also agree that MyMagic+ is here to stay, the tapstiles / room keys / interactive expierences / magic bands / tap to pay etc. all seem like improvements to me and there is no easy way out of these. I'm referring specifically to the FastPass+ portion. Under what circumstances (if any) do they consider this a failure and drop it?
Will dig in to this in a longer post. Short version, even with regards to just the FP+ portion, there are no circumstances that MM+/FP+ goes away. As @wdwmagic just said, it's here to stay.

All aspects of MM+, especially FP+, are here to stay until at least Iger leaves. On multiple occasions, Iger has spoken publicly about how MM+ was (and I quote) "a stunning example of how we are using technology to make our products and experiences more accessible and more compelling." His horse (and professional ego) are tied to that cart. Iger's been pumping it up to Wall Street and even if it crashes and burns financially, he's almost certainly has scapegoats lined up.

MM+ is not going anywhere.

Maybe they should start doing some case studies into Microsoft's 180 reversal of its unpopular DRM policies on Xbox One before forcing these changes down on their guests.

Unlike a video game press conference on the internet where a core audience knows exactly what is going on the moment it is announced, most of Disney's guests aren't going to figure out that WDW totally destroyed the way that people are used to visiting their parks until they arrive and start using this service. When that happens, watch out!

"More accessible and more compelling" = we want you to see our on our schedule when WE want you to see it

NextGen was born out of a desire to avoid EXACTLY what Disney is gearing up to do with DHS, and that is making continuous massive investments across the resort to evenly distribute guest flow, rather than guests deciding for themselves where their time is best spent on property.

I can say, I'm sure they've been ticking off a lot of first time guests / planners with the state of the website...when it launched, I didn't mind bugs, but it's been months now and the thing still just randomly craps out on you.

Now I'm at a point where I'm praying with every ADR that I don't see Donald's "Whoops" graphic again...

Ugh. I don't have a degree in MM+, so I can I ask a stupid question? As an AP, can I just transfer to the new RFID card only, or will I have to get the band? I don't want the band.

You do not need to get the band. You have a choice of the card or the band.

Disney is adding in an Augmented Reality function to the My Disney Experience App called "Disney Vision". Currently this is planned to only be available to WDW resort guests and will be activated by some sort of QR code they will receive at check in.

WHY?!?

People who come to theme parks want to be absorbed in a reality different from real life. Why draw them back to this device that will root them right back in the world they just left behind?

As another thread postulates..."Blue Ocean"...they are trying to create the "Theme Park Experience of Tomorrow"...

Idjits.

Augmented reality could be nice for people to find there way. They can hold the phone up and it could have the names of attractions around them etc.

Yeah, and lose some of the "discovery"...or all of it.

"Hold on, where are we at?" <holds up iPhone>

I suppose not everyone has to use it, but it seems like a really cheap gimmick, and expensive.

And they're so obsessed they're not even bothering to make sure the older new crap works properly before introducing new new crap.

Being in IT and a developer, I get this sort of mindset all the time. We move into whole states and they haven't even worked out the business rules yet, but when something screws up...it's IT's fault.

Of course, they ignored my "lets roll it out in phases" and "beta test" suggestions...but bought wholly into SEO, only to figure out a year later (when I TOLD them content was king and that real SEO is a full time job, not some crap company posting google ads that you could do yourself and "site optimizations" when our largest competitors have literally hundreds of millions sunk into online marketing, and we are only willing to put in a few dozen grand)....a few dozen grand could buy me all sorts of infrastructure upgrades which I sorely need (our VPN is lacking...), or location upgrades, or a variety of other avenues that are worth more than crap SEO from a company that adverts on a billboard.

ARGHGHGH!

I will credit us for one thing though, we can turn a location on in 2-3 days max once the lease is signed, assuming there is some sort of Clear / Clearwire coverage, or pre-existing internet (preferably Cable)...we've gotten very good at that because...that's how much time Ops Mgmt thinks it takes. She hates to hear me say the term "build out" for an ISP...I hate it too, but it's a lot more common than people think.

I get that sales is king (though, I think profit is king, and we've had these debates in the board room...that aside)...I get that revenue generation is key...but jeezus, you have to give us professionals who do what you don't understand enough time to do it right! I started using the Scotty method. And, I hate having to do that...

Sorry, went off on a personal tangent there...

From my understanding it is not planned to be this useful. It seems that it will just be some animations of characters and some special effects activated by the card you receive at checkin.
