Really??!! I didn't know that. Who's taking her place?
Some chick from some soap opera. :veryconfu
Thanks for the heads up...of course I have to go research it now! I always hated reading lists...either I already read it in 7th grade or it's some literary "masterpiece" that they think you should read....
I hate them, too.
I LOVE to read, but the books they give us for summer reading are TORTURE.
There's only been one summer reading book I even sort of liked, and that was The Color of Water by James McBride.
Here's a few others I've had over the years:
My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead-George (hated it)
A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park (completely pointless)
The Pearl by John Steinbeck (loathed every turn of the page)
The point of summer reading is to get students to read, but then they give us TRASH, and expect us to enjoy reading.
Honestly, I think they're doing more harm than good, because if the kids who don't read often are only given this filth, then they're going to think that all books are this bad.

You are like the voice of reason crying out in the desert (or whatever the phrase is). I'd already read the "good stuff" by the time I got to high school where it became "required reading" along with all the trash ( perfect word for it!!!). And yea, then they wonder why kids don't like to read...

Stop me before I go on my rant about who the greatest American authors really are...

Yes, well God forbid we go the too obvious route...

All kidding aside, I'm rather on the edge of my seat! But no pressure.

Oh trust me, this will be one of the first places I come. I forsee a scenario like this:
DBF: Blah, blah, blah, blah. Will you marry me?
Steph: One second. *whips out Bberry, goes to Magic Friends* "ACK!" It's happening guys!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

DBF: Um, Steph? Will you?

Really? Everything I've heard about Alas, Babylon has been poitive. And that's by other students my age.
I've only heard of one person from my class liking it, the rest all hate it.

It's about the Cuban missle crisis, right? Dystopian?

I don't even think I know what that means...and I'm afraid to look it up because every time I stray from Magic my Internet breaks again...

Dystopia is when a supposed "utopia" goes wrong. Examples are 1984, Anthem, and Brave New World.

Anyway, I need to go take a shower. Talk to you all later!
