Just the Facts

Hi- I am just curious, and forgive me if I am missing anything, but I have patients and family members that give an arm, a leg and sometimes a pint of blood along with lots-o-moolah to get reservations to eat at CRT just so they can get to see the princesses. I have never been myself and really don't know what it is but I assume it is Cinderella and some of the others there while you eat and for photo ops, similar to the character dinners I have attended elswhere.

My question is, if the Belle and Ariel M&G's are still a go and now there is talk of removing SWSA to add a princess M&G there, what would be the point of going to CRT any longer? Seems like everyone that you could see there will have another M&G somewhere else in Fantasyland that you could go to for free. Obviously, one costs money and one costs time in what I am sure will be a mile long line. Maybe it is because of the high demand and to appease those that can't afford it or can't get in? Maybe a different set of characters in the M&G in the park or maybe they are changing CRT in the long run?

The princesses have always been out for meet and greets and still are in Mickey's Toontown Fair in one of the tents.

Ahh, ok, I did not know that. As a single guy that travels with adults mostly, I have never even bothered with any of the meet and greets outside of a character dinner. Just not that important to any of us.

But what I want to know is this a totally new roof?

I imagine so. They're shutting the ride down for over a month, and minor roof repairs wouldn't require that.

I'm sure they're doing more than just roofing work, but it might have said "Roofing repairs" rather than just "Roofing" since that's how they've filed in the past.

Especially considering the contractor they are using. Barton Malow Construction is certainly NOT a mere roofer, but a General Contractor capable of MUCH more than thatched roof.

BM is the contractor WDI chose for the Monsters Inc. Coaster as well.

Great to know! I pray we get an amazing roof. Any chance the damage rumors were just a cover up to excuse the sudden refurb?

It could be that they hadn't planned on doing this work right away, but the "damage" made them to decide to go ahead and do it.

Work this insignificant isn't something that Barton Malow's known for, so it was probably just given to them as a "Change Order" to the FLE project. Something like "since you're already here, and we need it done anyway, why don't you go ahead and fix this ride as part of the project".

So, in reality it totally could be a small update? But it must be in pretty bad shape for being closed for almost 2 months! Sheesh. I will still hold my breath for a DLP style roof.

So what ever became of http://thedailydisney.com/blog/2010...ral-contractors-to-run-fantasyland-expansion/?

I imagine Barton is the primary GC on the project, with being a secondary GC. It's common to have more than one GC on a project of this size (sometimes as many as 3 or 4), with each one being responsible for a specific scope of work. When you're talking about hundreds of millions of dollars, that's just flat out too much money and responsibility to run through one company. Additionally, the bonding capacity of a company can prevent them from being able to handle the entire contract, meaning the overall contract must be split.

A scope can be defined by a building or area (i.e. BatB or LM), or trade(s) (i.e. one GC can oversee carpentry, steel, concrete and site work while another handles interiors, and yet another oversees mechanical/plumbing/electrical - or any other combination). Since Barton filed the permits, I predict that they're the primary GC and is a secondary.

EDIT: filed the permit for relocating the tank.
