Just A Little Discouraged

Sounds like you haven't been to WDW in a long time.

Just realized what you were talking about. Yes I have been to Disney 4 times in the last 3 years. I used to ask for the jump seat on ToT, I just mentioned that along with seat requests for POTC and RnR because I was talking about the only 3 rides I have ever requested seats on.

In another post I mentioned that when I go back should I request the seats for POTC and RnR because I already know of the seat belts seats and missing seat on ToT

Just didn't understand why you were asking

We used to joke at work that they should convert the train station into a theater and require all guests to sit through an etiquette seminar before being allowed to enter the park. We had a whole list of points that would be included in the presentation, for which we volunteered to write the script. For some reason, our managers never passed this suggestion on to their higher-ups...:drevil:
It included:
1. Trash Cans 101
2. The Concept of the Height Requirement
3. Respect for Others
4. Advanced Queuing
5. Methods of FastPass Usage
6. Counting to 10: How to Determine the Size of your Party
7. Following Simple Instructions: Seminar on Row Numbers
8. The Use of Sunscreen
9. Loading and Unloading from Ride Vehicles
10. Proper Character Interaction

Ha! I love it! Or, we could add it to the Disney Vacation Video that people call for. Send one out with every reservation made! :)

Space Mountain seems to be the attraction where it really stresses the CMs out to get this request.

I had a friend who was a Space Mountain CM for years, and it apparently really got to her. When we were in the parks together, she would "baa" like a sheep at guests (insinuating that we all act like sheep, which actually has some merit, but it was still rude) and say it was an inside joke among Space Mountain CMs (this was back in 2000, so please don't be offended if you're a Space Mountain CM currently...my friend was a very odd person).

She also told me she would get really irritated with guests who make seat requests (I do too, BTW, and I've never had anyone seem annoyed or anything, FWIW). She would put guests who annoyed her in "3 and 4" because those were apparently the "undesirable" seats....since one person is in the front car and one is in the back.

She's not a CM anymore, and I don't know what ever happened to her (we lost touch years ago), but I think that MK is definitely better of without her :D

A little visualization here:

You are in line for a ride but you can't get on because the loading CM is engaged with an argument with a guest who won't shut up or stand down and therefor can't load. Would this bother you? Or am I to understand you are paying to be in Disneyworld not only to "shut the ride down" if need be, but also to deal with other guests who feel like "shutting the ride down" for their own reasons? Am I to understand you'd rather pay a CM to argue with you than to help you load onto a ride?

Did you consider that you may anger people other than the CM by "shutting the ride down"? Cuz to be honest, the CM most likely doesn't give a crap, but the guests... the other guests who paid to be there? Yeah, they will be pretty ticked at you. And this in addition to your behavior will the CM will get you at least escorted out of the queue.

But thank you for demonstrating a crucial point in this thread: People these days really don't see beyond themselves. Add that to a sense of entitlement and yes, they are difficult to deal with. All you can do is forget about these people and hope they someday see past their 13 year old mentalities.

With that said, Im still gonna do me and what I feel is best. Regardless of who thinks what and how or whatever, cuz honestly it doesnt really phase me. Call it a 13 yo mentality all you want, but thats not what Im showcasing. You can be the one getting yelled at be a cm or some people and walk outside with your head in the clouds or whatever still thinking its a great day, feel free, and do you.

I just feel like there are better ways to handle a situation when someone is rude to you. Being rude back only causes it to escalate into a full-blown argument. Taking the high road and responding in a reasonable tone and trying to work out your differences comes across as a lot more mature and is more likely to result in a resolution that's satisfactory to both parties. Like the old saying goes, "Two wrongs don't make a right."

That is true. But I still gotta do me. Im pretty sure it wont escalate into anything like that, and Ive only come across courteous CMs. But I still am going to respond in some kind of way, if Im approached rudely by anyone. It wont neccassarily be rude back, atleast not all the time, but they would still hear me say something.

As a guest and a man raised NOT to be a complete d-bag, I totally agree with you. Some people just don't deserve a cool place like WDW. I mean, I saw trash in Snow White's well. SNOW WHITE'S WELL!!

I agree, however i've seen guests who enjoy trying to pick a fight with Cast Members, just to see the CM lose their cool. And then, there's other people where even though the CM is taking the high road, the guest still escalates it into something completely rediculous.

ever see a kid with intense sun burn because mom &/or dad weren't diligent applying sunscreen or covering skin with clothes? Their kids are now drenched in soothing lotion so they look like they were dipped in sour cream, crying in pain and possibly feverish, but when you point out to the parents that their kid probably needs a doctor, they snap that they're only in WDW for 4 more days and they'll see a doctor when they get home? fun fun fun!

Rude Guests

AMEN! I'm glad a CM finally spoke up on this subject! My family and I visit the world at least twice a year and have been amazed at how rude some of the guests are. Like you, even though we don't work at the world, our hearts are always there and cherish this place as if it were our own. It is something to be enjoyed by all who pass through the gates but, a certain level of respect should be maintained. Don't throw trash on the ground, don't be grumpy, don't cut in line, etc. Like you said, you're on vacation, sit down and come back later!
