Thank you. It absolutely is exhausting. The good news is there are plenty of non-black people both here and elsewhere who absolutely DO get it and understand. My graduate American lit course was centered around 19th and early 20th century African American lit, something I found out on the first day, and it was taught by a white woman. She studied African American history and literature for all three of her degrees. She spoke of the issues within the community very eloquently and was spot on about everything. I was very impressed. There are plenty of allies out there.

Thank you for your understanding and lending an ear! Definitely hit me up if you’re ever in L.A.😉
Absolutely! Happy to be ally 😊

@Dr. Hans Reinhardt After the pandemic ends and the next time you’re in the Los Angeles area, drinks on me? I don’t even drink, but I feel I will start soon after this thread. Or we could grab lunch. Your choice, my treat.
That's a very kind invitation Raven, and I will definitely take you up on the offer. I do enjoy a good cocktail. LA has some great hangouts and I'm always up for checking out new places too.

Galaxy's Edge doesn't have Ray. She only appears as a hologram while the rest of the experience is all men, be it human or alien. Even the robot is rather masculine.

The robots in Galaxy's Edge that are human include the gentleman who was in the terrible Disney movies who happens to be black, a severed arm jutting out from behind a crate shooting a gun because presumably they were too cheap to install an entire robot, the annoying Brit, whose face you never see because he's turned away from the car and the lame Darth Vader wannabe, who is wearing a mask.

There IS black representation in Rise Before Dawn, but that ride is mostly hallways and ridiculous cast members who refuse you entry if you lost your ticket.

All good points. But the thing is that Rey in the pre-show was memorable for me, especially after BB8 rolled around on the shelf to introduce her. I already counted Little Leota and her Laugh-In Era hologram at the speedramp at Haunted Mansion, so I feel I should count Rey's hologram too.

I'm making cheese fondue tonight, with a healthy splash of cognac. And I'm watching my Blu-Ray copy of Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? from 1967 because this thread actually reminded me that I usually watch that movie every winter when I made a Guess Who's Coming To Dinner joke with Hans a day or two ago here.

But after all that is done, and I'm sitting in the den with a Digestif, I am going to re-tally and re-hash the Big List Of Animatronics/Humans that appear at Disneyland and what race, ethnicity and/or national culture they represent. It really is an interesting concept to consider, and even though she dismissed me for the night I thank @raven24 for bringing it up. It's a fascinating thing to consider about Disneyland!

Yes it is a theme park ride at the end of the day but its a beloved one that has withstood the test of time. unlike rocket rods. at the end of the day its not meant to be taken that seriously but meant to be fun. you drive by the natives in under 15 seconds and meant to put a smile on your face as you get the quick gag marc davis set up wonderfully and masterfully. It's not racist though. Not at all.
Ah, the classic "how can this be racist? **I** don't think it's racist!" argument.

Hey guys, on the bright side, after they inevitably make changes to Peter Pans Flight, IASW, Enchanted Tiki Room and Lincoln it’ll all be over. They already changed or announced changes to all the heavy hitters like POTC, Splash and Jungle Cruise so it’s all downhill from here. Obviously Peter Pans Flight they re only going to be removing the Indians. Hoping they come to their senses on IASW but I imagine the changes will be very minor. I haven’t seen Lincoln in years so I’m not not sure what’s problematic about that one. For me if the Tiki Rooms dialogue and hokeyness was removed it basically loses all its value. All of Tiki Rooms charm is in those elements and it’s history. The 55 year old primitive animatronic birds with 2021 dialogue? If they remove the main dialogue, they may as well just do a major renovation.

You obviously haven't been reading the news my friend. The mob has moved on Lincoln and all those others. ;)
Not really sure why you think that. The #1 lesson for me over the past couple years has been that there are no limits to this SJW stuff.

Exactly. This was a slippery slope once they decried singing chickens on a log ride as racist. And I'm even looking forward to the Tiana version (if it's done well and with a healthy budget), as Disneyland's Splash Mt. is the obvious weakest of the three Splash versions.

SJW?

What outside of those attractions, could possibly be considered offensive?

Plucked from today's headlines...

President Lincoln may have freed the slaves and may have been considered a great patriot just a decade ago, but now he's a horrible white racist man. Tear down his statues, rename his schools, and shut down that insensitive patriotic robot show! (For a point of reference, Senator Diane Feinstein is also a horrible racist who is being erased along with President Lincoln. Also George Washington. Plus John Muir, who was featured positively in DCA's Golden Dreams show 20 years ago. My how times have changed!)

Unbelievably, that action in San Francisco is mild mannered to what they're doing up in even more liberal Portland. Statues of Abraham Lincoln were torn down this fall, just after the same protesters smashed the windows of the Oregon Historical Society and dragged the Afro-American Bicentennial Heritage Quilt out of its prominent display. The quilt was sewed by hand by local Black women in 1976 to commemorate the contributions of Black Americans to our great country.

The quilt wasn't Woke enough, just like Lincoln. (Happy Ending:The quilt was found by police torn and damaged in a muddy gutter a few blocks away, and the Historical Society has been working on repairing it and restoring it, but won't be returning it to display in fear it may be vandalized again by protesters. The Oregon Historical Society had its windows smashed and displays vandalized again last week by the nightly Portland protests. History is the enemy.)

President Lincoln is no longer safe. He is now considered a racist, evil white man who must be erased. Black Americans who celebrated the nation's Bicentennial are now considered traitors to the Woke cause. The mob has spoken.

Obviously singing birds are an even easier target. Although, it does help that three of the four hosts use stereotypical accents from white nations/cultures; Britain, France, Germany. It's only Jose who has the Spanish accent, so he should probably be replaced by a female American. Maybe a Kardashian could do the new voiceover?
