Jungle Cruise Re-Imagining

Hasn't this project been in development hell for, what, a decade? At this point, I'll believe the movie when I see it. Remember when it was set to be released starring Tim Allen and Tom Hanks?

Skippers haven't been allowed to ad lib for years now, unfortunately. You might still get the occasional skipper willing to risk some disciplinary action, but they're becoming few and far between.

I'm sure that there have been some tighter restrictions placed on Skippers in regards to this but, the last 6-7 times I've been on JC (all within the last several months) the skippers have all had different lines outside of the usual mainstays (Backside of water, etc.)

Not saying you're wrong, but I'm not so sure this change has really taken a foothold amongst the skippers, if true.

Food for thought: If The Rock's already talking to Imagineering this early in pre-production about the film's future influence on the ride, is there a possibility also that Imagineering might be advising The Rock on story elements to bring into the movie?

I mean, there is a precedent for inter-department collaboration like this with the Kingdoms comics Imagineering produced with Marvel...

This is hard, on one hand if the movie is successful we have to endure the IP Jungle Cruise and if the movie bombs Disney will probably do the ol' rip and replace...

I don't want either. I LOVE THE JUNGLE CRUISE. This is my favorite ride. I don't mind updates, i can stomach a few movie tie ins, but if this becomes a IP nightmare (I am looking at you Malestorm) I may just give up all hope.
The Haunted Mansion and CBJ both had awful movie adaptations that bombed and they are both still around. Pirates of the Caribbean on the other hand.......

I get the feeling Jungle Cruise won't be hit as hard by its franchise transformation as Pirates was. The ride taken by itself is a pretty sturdy base for embellishing into a comedy/action-adventure film.
Pirates of the Caribbean on the other hand was a gumbo of classical Pirate tropes and supernatural elements that could be sprinkled throughout a film, but not really be turned directly into one itself. It was about taking the idea of cursed treasure and spooky skeleton caves and making something new out of it.
The question of if the concept was "New" or not is debatable.

Mansion and Country Bears also pulled more from their source material in terms of characters and stuff. The plots were a mess of stock "The workaholic has to learn to appreciate his family" and "Put the band back together" shlock, but they weren't the drastic rethink of material and genre that Pirates turned out to be.

That just means they'll turn it into a live-action Lion King ride. Tokyo's already slapped Circle of Life over the African Veldt.
Again, I think at this point they should just shut down the film studio before it does any more damage to the parks. I never thought I would be in this position but if it means preserving the parks I will take it.

What makes you think they would do that?

Demand for the Jungle Cruise at every park it's installed in has stayed very high. It's a very expensive attraction to staff and maintain, but it's also a people-eater (~1,800 guests per hour).
If the movie bombs, at worst Disney would just leave the ride be and let it continue to please guests.

The only acceptable overlay/update for the Jungle Cruise featuring The Rock is Disney adding a literal regular rock anywhere on the ride. Have skippers point to it and say "and there is the new Dwayne The Rock Johnson animatronic featuring the same technology from our new Pandora AA'S".

First off, I understand that it is an original ride and it wasn't as funny when it first opened. However, I love the fact that the ride is quirky and corny. I can handle updates and remodel. I just hope they keep the fun atmosphere. Even the movie, I really hope they do not try to make it an action movie because the Rock is in it. I like the Rock and think he is hilarious. I hope they try to stay true to the ride, if possible. However, I do not have that much faith in it.

This is what the rock said:

Grateful SOB to have Walt and Mickey watching over my shoulder as @danygarciaco and I embark on this amazing project. For our big #JungleCruise creative meeting at DISNEY's highly secure R&D facilities, me and @danygarciaco were escorted into THE VAULT. A legitimate vault where all of Disney's biggest secrets and plans are kept. Curtains were pulled back for us to reveal the actual drawn up plans that Walt Disney had his brother, Roy Disney take to New York to present to the bankers in 1950 for the potential loan to build what's now known as Disney Land. Cant imagine what that meeting with bankers was like. Roy: Alright gentlemen, so me and my brother Walt, want to build the greatest multiple theme park attraction in the world. Banker: Oh that seems fun, Mr. Disney. Roy: *smiles in a playful mischievous manner, Oh yes my good man, it will have a few things that are in fact, fun. Well, clearly I don't know how the hell men were actually talking in the 50's, but what I do know is being able to star in and produce #JungleCruise is a dream come true. BUT what takes this to the next level, is that we'll partner with Disney's brilliant Imagineers to help re-engineer and re-design the #JungleCruise ride in all the Disney theme parks around the world. A very special opportunity for us and our @sevenbucksprod to create an unforgettable and fun EXPERIENCE for families around the world. And as Walt Disney himself would say... it's magical. Next step is finding our visionary director. Exciting times. #JungleCruise #TheExperience #DisneyStudios#Imagineers #SevenBucksProds #WaltAndRockWouldveBeenBesties#AndWorkoutBuddies #WaltWouldveLovedMyJackedUpPickUpTruck

I just find it a little funny that I think if The Rock weren't attached and we got wind of Jungle Cruise changing, many would object but because it's The Rock ... yay let's ruin a classic! I'm being a bit dramatic and sarcastic, they probably will do the bare minimum ... but that's just how I see it ... and if they do re-imagine it and it's great I'll be more than thrilled but I don't trust them.
