Jungle Cruise Re-Imagining

Exactly

I also find it funny that a movie based on the classic ride will now "need" to be updated to be current with the movie. LOL

His involvement doesn't mean we'll get a quality upgrade to the Jungle Cruise. I'd like to believe it would, but they would have to completely re-do the ride IMHO. Just depends on the movie, which we're far off on anyway. I think he was a bit premature touting re-dos and things like that.
Well, Judging by the fact that we have precedent (With Pirates) of film adaptations hurting the rides in the long run we know not to see the film.

The thinking is essentially that Depp's addition didn't harm PoC and brought with it some nice figure updates, and if the same happens to JC, all the better. Plus, people like the Rock and won't mind him being added to the ride in a respectful way. Now, if they start talking about adding the Rock to every scene, the tone will change. But for now, I'm picturing two Rock AAs and a few new/updated scenes. Which isn't necessary, but is fine.

Ok. We all have our own likes and dislikes. I don't think it would do much harm but I don't think it needs it either. And some weren't thrilled with Depp added to Pirates. I don't mind him there but it's really just "Where's Jack Sparrow". Either do a full update or leave it alone. JMO.

The figure updates would have happened anyway. There was already a POTC refurb planned for DL's 50th, then the first movie was released and was a hit and they decided to take advantage of the situation.

The difference between Skipper Dwayne and Jack Sparrow is that Skipper Dwayne's existence doesn't and shouldn't really exclude the existence of other Skippers. Like he might be one of the more accomplished people working for the Jungle Navigation Company, but he's still a Skipper and thus a member of the team.
Jack Sparrow on the other hand is a talented pirate that pretty much everybody in-universe hates to some extent and thus the nameless ensemble of unsavory scallywags sacking the town slips into the role of a collective antagonist to Jack very easily for lazy scriptwriters that think we need to be reminded every five seconds that the pirates want Jack dead.

Skipper Dwayne could blend into the world of the attraction much more smoothly then Sparrow could.

You know, if no one likes the Rock's Jungle Cruise movie they could always retheme the ride to something else...

With this being on the heels of the "Jumanji" reboot and knowing media superpowers will no doubt play "The Rundown" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" on loop for killer cross-marketing; I have to wonder if we'll all be in "It's-the-Rock-in-the-Jungle" overload by the time this hits theaters.

I'm all for seeing a Jungle Cruise movie but was hoping more for a "Ballad of Ricky Bobby meets The African Queen" buddy-comedy that was originally pitched and not the Indiana Jones-lite, open-ended sequel machine this is rumored to become. Dwayne can hold his own as an actor but I can't help but think this is going to be a complete bomb when it hits theaters mainly due to it being a well-worn trope that no amount of bad puns can save. Eh, what can I say; I'm pessimistic.

I still hope this movie succeeds but I'm thinking it won't. Which for the sake of argument means it probably won't affect the Jungle Cruise attraction substantially. The Rock does have comedic chops so there's a change the movie will be awesome, in which case any Jungle Cruise re-imagining might happen. I guess we'll see. Like they did with Haunted Mansion, I think it would be wise for Disney to "wait and see" before launching any bluesky redesign plans.

I think once we see the tone and style of the movie, it may paint a better picture. I know it sounds like I'm totally against anything happening but I'm not. I think I need to see how the movie is handled. And unfortunately I don't trust them to "update" their attractions. Look at Epcot.

For real. Like, what are they waiting for? They have billions and billions of dollars. Disney is literally printing money at the box office and everywhere else.

Build it and they will come.

ive dreamed of jungle cruise not having any talking, just some wonderful music from the same era it is set in like the queue. it would be such a relaxin and otherworldly experience.
I rode in Japan and I don't speak Japanese. There was a lot of energy from the skipper and the attraction was very similar to the MK counterpart. The big differences were projection mapping in the temple and a musical score taken from Disney movies. The music was a nice touch, but ultimately I'd rather have a good Skipper any day of the week.

He very well may be talking with Imagineering as I assume often happens in any upcoming movie. When Disney continue to play up it's history they're going to continue to have the new inspire the old and vice versa.

It's probably standard procedure at this point. It's something, but until there's more buzz about it I'm not going to lose too much sleep. The Rock doesn't have a history of "Disney Tent Pole" level movie openings either (non Fast and Furious division). I suspect this would need to be $200+ domestic to see a substantial change to the attraction.

Yeah, except I don't see "The Rock" dressing in costume and standing on the shore interacting with guests...
Think again not only would he do that he would live stream it. Also he showed up to Jimmy Fallon ride and interacted with people there and that wasn't even his attraction.

I will play devil's advocate here.

We assume Disney is changing the JC for the movie and incorporating the Rock. What if....the ride was getting updated anyway, and Disney is using the Rock to advertise and incorporating those changes into the movie?

We always want to assume the worst here for some reason, granted SOME of the moves deserve it. But I for one am intrigued with the possibilities this could bring. Rock has done many comedies and done well in them and has the right ability to play it.

I for one would LOVE to see all the items IN JC working for a change, so if this is pushing it...more power to it.

I was indeed referring to the spine work. Though I think some of the attractions need work. Not IP infusions.
SSE needs work and has needed it since 2008, No question. UoE needs to be brought into the 21st Century not turned into Guardians of the Galaxy, Space is apparently getting enhancements so we shall see how that turns out. Test Track 2.0 is probably the best replacing of an attraction in Epcot history. The Seas needs to have Nemo's presence reduced significantly, The Land is in relatively good shape with Soarin' now making complete thematic sense LwtL could use some sprucing up and the kids quoted in the mural in the queue are likely in their thirties now and Circle of Life is fine but a new film (preferably done by DisneyNature would be great.) Imagination needs a new ride with Figment & Dreamfinder and a better use for the Magic Eye and second floor, and of course Wonders needs to become an actual pavilion preferably weather-based with Stormrider.
