20K Sub Photos

I once saw some aerial (sp?) photos somewhere on the web that showed a backstage area where 5-6 of the old subs were being stored.

Anyone seen those and/or know where they are?

While I too loved the wild ride, it's gone and if they did a new one it would never live up to our expectations because it won't be the same....

As for B&B and TLM....they have something for each of these I'd like them to do something they haven't done before. Which is why I want Mary Poppins. I would like something different.....trying to think.....if it has to be from movies rather than original......Lady & the Tramp.....101 Dalmations.....Hercules....

I would like to see something somewhere in Disney...maybe there is but I haven't ran across it, but something that features all the classic live action movies....Escape to Witch Mountain...Apple Dumpling Gang...Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.....Herbie......gy Dog....absent minded professor....flubber....pete's dragon...etc...you get the idea...

I think Beauty and Beast could be a great dark ride, they only have the old stage show at MGM which should probably end soon. If they need some expansion room at MGM they could also close the Yoyage of the Little Mermaid and make a dark ride for her with a themed area like DisneySeas and a meet and greet.

Mary Poppin does have a lot of potential for a ride and actually a whole area. I love the music from the movie. I think a Mary Poppins ride could work with an area for Sweeps to perform during the day. Come to think of it though they really should do a Mary Poppins ride at the UK in Epcot to showcase London and have Sweeps through out the UK performing. It would probably be a little better themed there.

Personally the whole WTP themed 100-acre wood area sounds like it has potential. Actually anything themed well that the kids could run and play in without standing in a two hour line for a 45 second ride would be great especially on those really hot days in the middle of summer.

They could sell frozen honey on a stick and really get the kids juiced. My four and five year old boys would have a field day there. Just give it lot's of benches for those of us starting to get up in years.

Mary Poppins would work too Grizz, except I'd want to see the carousel and FantasyLand already has one of those. Maybe we could dump Cindy's carousel and put in another spin-n-puke dumbo attraction there. I'm sure they've got a few extra sitting around on a back-lot. They could sell chalk to the kiddies and let them draw on the cement.

Or maybe a Robin Hood themed dark-ride. Use the air-effects from Indy @ DL to simulate Prince John's Archers shooting at Robin as you try and flee from his many close calls. That would work for me. They could have a fun explorer Sherwood Forest.

There are just too many things they could do that would make that place a lot better than just a garden...

Complain, complain, complain. I'm glad they are finally doing something to the area. I'd rather them make use of the area than do nothing at all. If they theme it to the 100 Acre Woods, think how insanely popular that would be? Granted, I' rather have a few rides than a Meet-N-Greet, but people want chances to meet the characters. Disney is giving people what they want. Also, I think if done correctly, it will be more pleasant and disperse the crowds in FL much, much better.

Heck, with this and strollers in the old Skyway building, you might be able to breathe in FL come next year :D

No complaints really just thoughts....as for the 100 acre woods....that's kindof cool. I know the MK has no urgent need for anything new thanks to the new things the last couple years.

I just hope the area is not used for Villian Mountain. Do villians ever deserve a ride? Maybe a D ticket but definitly not an E-ticket.

But it would be nice and can the service area behind Fantasyland be converted for more attractions?

But this is the time for Disney to select the future of Fantasyland. A cheap area with Meet and greets added, a couple D-tickets, or a giant E-ticket.

My personal hope is that they eventually use the area for multi-attractions. I would rather see the MK add many small attractions over time than 1 giant e-ticket and then do nothing for 10 years.

I think that with a chunk of land that size inside the railroad tracks, the betetr option is something to absorb the crowds (mulitple rides, shops, a show and small attractions). E-tickets can always be built outside of the tracks (i.e. Space and Splash Mts)

.

I don't see a Villians attraction opening any time soon, due to the fact that Fantasmic is mainly a Villians features attraction, so it woul be kinda of redundant.

Jungle Book dark ride should go in AK. Just give me a well themed old school Disney dark ride based on Pinnochio & the Casey Jr. circus train.

Is there any way to make an attraction with Bambi? Very underutilized film, but the ride can't end with Bambi's mom dying. Too depressing

I would kill for Casey Jr....

Maybe any new Dark Rides built can follow Disneyland with one over the other? If so, I want Alice in Wonderland and I want it to be sycronised to "White rabbit".

Yeah, the more I think about the Robin Hood dark-ride the more I think about sending an email to Disney. How easy would it be to use the same ride system as Pooh and theme it for RH? And if you "Disneyfy" the area around the ride for RH it would be great.

Another idea I had would be to move and replicate IaSW's facade over to that spot and then redo the IaSW building with two more FL dark rides.

Then you could put in the bambi ride. Have him meet the future Mrs. Bambi at the end to keep it happy and do a direct to video sequel to write her into the story. (how eisnerish of me to think of this, lol)

Ah, don't send ideas to Disney! "We cannot accept ideas from the public, and we have mailed your original letter back to you."

They will then have an excuse NOT to use it!

Good creativity, folks. :)

Well, the problem when people submit ideas is Disney ends up paying hundreds of millions for BS lawsuits from jacka$$es like the guy who claims to have dreamed up Wide World of Sports or the other guy who claims to have invented Epcot.

My favorite lawsuit was when a guy sued Nintendo for making a Pokemon character pictured bending spoons with his mind. He claimed that Nintendo copied him because he can bend spoons with his mind.

As a fan of the late, great 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction, I have decided to send it off with a wish for the future.
I have dedicated my Photo Album to what I would like to see the attraction replaced with...you guessed it, the 20,000 Leagues attraction from Tokyo.
Here it is: http://photoalbums.wdwmagic.com/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=3193

In addition, I am going to post here a description of the story of the ride, courtesy of Laughing Place. In my opinion, this is a classic Disney style attraction that would create a fantastic destination at the rear of MK.
If only current management could see fit to invest in the Magic Kingdom a fraction of what OLC did for DisneySea, the 20K area would live on with a fantastic attraction and maybe even the matching restaurant and giftshop.

The Story of DisneySea's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Attraction, by Marc Borelli:
"The time is the 1870s. On an uncharted island somewhere in the South Pacific, a giant volcano rises up from the ocean depths. This is Mysterious Island, the secret base of operations for the enigmatic genius, Captain Nemo. It is here that he is engaged in experiments and research intent upon unlocking the secrets of the oceans and uncovering the hidden forces of nature deep beneath the earth's surface.

Inside the Caldera, a crater formed at the base of the volcano, a large body of water provides secret access to the ocean beyond. Suspended above the water is a small submersible vessel, the Neptune, This is Captain Nemo's personal submarine boat, capable of taking him to underwater locales not accessible by his larger submarine, the Nautilus.

In an unprecedented decision, Captain Nemo has invited the world's scientific community to come to Mysterious Island and share in his discoveries of the countless marvels and mysteries of the ocean's depths. He has announced that his special guests will be permitted to board one of his fleet of submersibles, similar to the Neptune, and join his crew as observers to assist in his research and to share the ocean's majesty.

To board their vessel, guests descend a spiral ramp and enter a volcanic rock cavern that leads first to Captain Nemo's Private Study and Control Station. Discovering that Captain Nemo is working in another part of the facility, they are able to walk through these private quarters and observe Nemo's various notes, maps and research materials related to his studies of the sea and his efforts to develop the ocean floor for fanning. It is here too that they are introduced to the Aquaphone. Nemo's amazing wireless communications invention, which allows him to monitor activities throughout Mysterious Island and to broadcast information to his fleet of research vessels under the sea.

Moving along, they enter the Dive Hatch Area where they observe that Nemo and his crew are able to don diving suits and enter the ocean directly through a special pressure hatch. It is clear from the missing dive suits in the storage area, and from the seawater and kelp around the hatch, that divers must have recently used the hatch and that their dive is still in progress.

Soon the guests enter the Submarine Docking Port, a rock cavern that has been reinforced by large metal riveted plates. The submersibles are suspended from an overhead conveyor system for loading. They arc attached by large metal hooks that release the vessels into the water. Guests board the six-person submersibles and the conveyor moves them to the ocean's edge to be dropped into the water and begin their dive.

Upon release, Captain Nemo can be heard over the Aquaphone in the vessel. He broadcasts along the way and provides information to the intrepid voyagers about the sites they see. In their first view after diving to the ocean floor, they observe the beauty of the ocean reef around the perimeter of Mysterious Island. Then they enter one of the many undersea fields where Nemo is harvesting the limitless bounty of the ocean and continuing to develop and refine his Aquafarming operations.

Nemo reminds his guests that the ocean is a vast and wondrous place, but that it is not a domain that can be controlled by man-that man is merely a visitor in the sea. As evidence, guests next encounter a graveyard of lost ships. As they float through the Ship Graveyard, in and out of the wrecks of sunken ships from every era, they observe that all the power and riches the people who piloted these vessels might have possessed or sought, were only destined to become so much junk at the bottom of the sea-a playground for the denizens of the deep.

But there is little time to reflect on the irony of man's quest for fame and fortune. An unexpected encounter with a sea creature of mammoth proportions leads guests on a life-or-death ' adventure beyond imagination. Sinking to a depth far deeper than ever thought possible, the guests; soon discover secrets of the deep that even Nemo himself never dared imagine possible.

Spoilers
Riders first proceed through Nemo's Aquafarming Operations, then enter a ship graveyard with vessels from many time periods and the creatures who have made them their homes. Your sub is then attacked by a giant squid and forced to a never before reached depth, where you ultimately encounter bizarre, seemingly sentient, humanoid fish. Are they friend or foe? Who knows, but they left me very curious to learn more about them.

See! I think it's real! :) ...despite the following knowledge -
The underwater environment is simulated (no water) and the "subs" are actually monorail vehicles supported by an overhead beam."

I think that sounds like it would fit better in theme with the Living Seas in Epcot. It could maybe be an extension of the pavillion between it and The Land. It does sound really cool though.

Yeah, I had the idea of transplanting the TDS 20k as well, and they can dress it up properly to fit with fantasy land

And as far as a robin hood ride, they tried that and discovered the movie waqs all characters and not enough unique settings to support a ride, although it would still be better than bambi.

And what's the deal with casey junior? Why does everyone want it at WDW.

I still like my idea of tds 20k in conjunction with either mermaid lagoon from TDS or a little mermaid dark ride, but I seriously doubt we will ever get either, unless DS will be the 5th gate after all...eventually...

By the way, the sub in the photo...not there anymore.
There is one out there in the lagoon, but the top part with the eyes, etc. is gone. The only thing above the water is the tail. Looks bad.

Does anybody know where I could go for more pics of the sub that is out @ Castaway Cay? Any underwater cameras out there  :animwink: :)

Although the 20k ride in Disney Sea is awesome, no more clones! Second, 20k has nothing to do with the Fantaseyland theme what so ever. Even though its based off of a Disney film, it has nothing to do with Fairy Stories, magic, or enchantment/ mid evil. SO its always been out of place.
