Why are so many people complaining about a ride that has been closed for 10 years that is finally being demolished? And they are not saying "it's about time" but instead they are saying "why are they taking away this attraction?"

2KLUTS took up too much room. When the whole building is gone there is probably is room for 2 E-tickets. Fantasyland will now be able to double in size.

I doubt enough room for 2 E Tickets ( I could be wrong ) the issue is people watched for 10 years Fantasyland had a "lake front" view of an area that could be used for so much more. Now with the draining and planned garden/character area folks see that as a waste. I can agree totally there 10 years for someone to say "Hey I have an idea a garden"

Well if the someone is smart enough, they could find a way to move the fantasyland service area behind the berm so that the area behind Small World can be used for the expansion.

But for gardens. Maybe a year or two but once a choice is made for that plot of land, the gardens will most likely be gone. The lagoon was probably removed for two reasons though:

1. Decaying ride in sight of guests
2. Dangerous conditions around the lagoon. (probably utilidoors)

So... they are going to make a garden?... No ride or show?....'

Is that correct Orlpassholder?

Direct quote from the Portal

A construction wall has been placed around the site of the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction. This will begin a seven-month project to clear the land as well as add landscape for future use.

What that means in that they wont leave the area as a giant field of dirt or grass but instead make it look good so it isn't ungly untill something replaces it.

Current future use (the garden) is not neccessarily reflective of final use. The area that 20KLUTS occupied was huge, and 2 or 3 attractions could fit into this area. (along with the unused/service area between FL and the railroad tracks)

Why do you feel they need to build something right now? Sure, this area has sat unused for 10 years...but big deal. 20KLUTS had its day, and was closed for whatever various reasons....for the last 10 years it has been a nice, quiet backdrop to the hustle and bustle of FL....the land is now entering its next phase, and eventually it will be developed.

Well as long as the garden idea is temporary, I don't mind it. But I guess the big question is: Would Disney rather have a new huge E-ticket type ride or would it be better to have 2 typical Fantasyland dark rides along with maybe a stage show? Or do they have some other idea up their sleeves?

My guess is 2 typical FL dark rides along with a stage show.

FL is so busy already, and could stand to NOT have an E-ticket added. If MK is going to add another E-Ticket, FL is not the best place, as Adventureland seems to be the least busy area in the MK.

The publicity that the MK would recieve from adding 3 new attractions, assuming that they would not all be added at the same time, would be more valuable than 1 new ride addition, no matter how great the ride is.

Also, MK addmissions always are higher than the other parks, and don't really follow the trends of the other parks. It looks like, from attendance figures, most tourists visit the MK and 2 other parks. If the other parks add new E-tickets to increase addmissions, more ppl will visit them, and MK attendance will also increase...without MK lifting a finger. How many tourists come to WDW and visit DAK, MGM, and Epcot, but skip the MK....probably not too many.

Loving that Mary Poppins idea Grizz but you already knew that....

As for the problems with the new attractions at MK is that they all replace other ones....so if they had over the last 10 years after closing 20K used that area right away and added these attractions or others instead of taking things away it would have made more sense...

My thoughts are why after 10 years are they finally doing this and then turning it into a garden? I would like to see that they have greater things in mind for the area then that. I also don't see the need for an e-ticket....I like Grizz's plans. A couple great themed dark rides a kiddie ride, restaurant a land within a land.....

I think they should do something like the Tokyo DisneySea "underwater" area. That would be really cool. I'm not sure what exactly that would encompass, but I've always liked the pictures I've seen of it on TV.

How about a Mr Toad's Wild Ride there? ;)

I think the imagineers should finally get creative and come up with a dark ride for Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid and putt hem here.

Gardens are O.K.

Landscaped space is a very useful and relatively inexpensive place-holder for future development. With the demo of 20K, something has to be put back in quickly (I think we can all agree that we don't want to look at a construction wall any longer than necessary). And with PhilarMagic just opening, not necessary to rush on an additional new attraction. So, in the meantime, we'll probably get som well thought out meet-n-greet areas, some pleasant space to get away from the CHAOS that is Fantasyland, and likely interesting developments in the future.

And don't worry about the Flower & Garden Festival going away because of a new little garden. It really is a relatively small piece of landscape...and in case you hadn't noticed, Walt Disney World is one HUGE garden with some attractions, restaurants, resorts, and shops scattered about. We can take care of a few more plants...it's what we do.

While I too loved the wild ride, it's gone and if they did a new one it would never live up to our expectations because it won't be the same....

As for B&B and TLM....they have something for each of these I'd like them to do something they haven't done before. Which is why I want Mary Poppins. I would like something different.....trying to think.....if it has to be from movies rather than original......Lady & the Tramp.....101 Dalmations.....Hercules....

I would like to see something somewhere in Disney...maybe there is but I haven't ran across it, but something that features all the classic live action movies....Escape to Witch Mountain...Apple Dumpling Gang...Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.....Herbie......gy Dog....absent minded professor....flubber....pete's dragon...etc...you get the idea...

Complain, complain, complain. I'm glad they are finally doing something to the area. I'd rather them make use of the area than do nothing at all. If they theme it to the 100 Acre Woods, think how insanely popular that would be? Granted, I' rather have a few rides than a Meet-N-Greet, but people want chances to meet the characters. Disney is giving people what they want. Also, I think if done correctly, it will be more pleasant and disperse the crowds in FL much, much better.

Heck, with this and strollers in the old Skyway building, you might be able to breathe in FL come next year :D
