What makes you think they would start now, when the butcher everything else, and we actually want great change for this one?

They certainly didn't do that for DL...

I just imagine they get tired of hearing Horizons, WoM, WoL, JII talk. And SM at DL was previous management.

No flames necessary.

I've made inquiries about this exact topic.

What I was told: "Space Mountain and Fantasyland were completely unrelated."

Do you think that if they gutted SM for a DL type version people would have been angry? I know there are a couple posters here who said the would not go back to WDW if the classic SM was lost. Perhaps that factored in.

Please...It's two totally different things. The ripped out and destroyed those attractions.

With this one, they brought it into the 21st Century.

Essentially what we WANTED for those attractions.

Doubt it.

They listen the extremists at all the wrong times, if that's the case.

See post #323. Not everyone wanted the "Lee" SM.

I can't see why people would have been. If it was gutted, the track would have returned in it's exact same layout.

People didn't stop coming when Pirates was changed. People didn't stop coming when Mansion was changed. People wouldn't stop if Space was made into the true E-ticket it deserves to be.

Huh? The rumor was we would get a DL-esque version. Wide banking turns as opoosed to a mouse like ride. DL's Space is entirely different.

That's not what I was told.

I heard the original plan was a tear down/rebuild of the original track layout.

I don't think Disney is worried about losing two visitors.

I think the DL-esque phrase came from the scope of the refurb, not the track layout.

So what would a complete rebuild provide that a complete "rewelding" won't? Seems like there wouldn't be that much difference. Especially if what Martin told us is true.

No onboard audio, no spectacular updated effects, and a coaster that's still stuck in the 70's.

 But if it was completely gutted and then used the same layout wouldn't it still be a "70's coaster"? (rhetorical)

I can't wait until it reopens so we can see exactly what is happening here. It should be very interesting to say the least.

You know I'm talking about the effects and music when I say stuck in the 70s.
