Jaws.. what's happening?

I have been on the Ocean Park train in HK ... and that is definitely the type of system UNI will wind up using because it can effortlessly move a lot of people and also shield them from all that backstage ugliness while continuing to tell the story. It's a very smart way of doing things.

~Why isn't Disney doing these things? Because they are Fastpassing everything!~

It will be interesting to see how they balance thematic ride experience with the inherent utility of transportation.

The "sleeper car" concept doesn't sound very practical for efficient loading/unloading of heavy guest traffic, not to mention employee monitoring of so many secluded "spaces" for things like guest safety (behavior), making sure that guest items aren't left behind, cleaning, and other related employee responsibilities. I expect to see a more practical, open design.

I highly doubt they will go with the "sleeper cars" simply from a capacity standpoint. If I remember right there was at least one of the movies that showed a more standard passenger car on the Howarts Express.

Also, Epcot Explorer's Encyclopedia has posted the site grading plans for the former Jaws area that gives you an idea of what will eventually be there:

The other question is whether the trains will travel at an intentionally reduced speed to better incorporate the "ride" experience. The distance between the two points would make for a very short ride at any reasonable speed.

Well, I think the correct term for that type of railcar would be "compartment car" not "sleeper car".

And I can see your point about monitoring a set up like this. One thing I have been thinking about ever since that train was rumoured is that I remember when I was in the UK for the first time as a kid in the 80s I was fascinated with the railcars there because they had so many doors. I had seen it with compartments where every compartment would have its own door (instead of just a window), but it was also the case for open cars where the seats were then arranged as groups of four on both sides of a walkway along the middle of the car. I always thought a set up like this might work very well as it would speed up loading of the train immensely and if my memory is correct railway cars like that did exist in the UK.

The car that Draco was riding in on the trip to Hogwarts in...Deathly Hallows Part 1 I believe (or was it the previous movie, can't remember) was an open bench seating car, so that style could very easily work thematically. I believe they were benches of two seats facing each other.

Old Pal, Merfie strikes again!!!

I still can't believe the dude went and stole our beloved former member's -- Epcot Explorer-- handle for his book ...

I wish both those crazy kids were here posting again!

I have no idea what you are speaking of, sir ... now, does The Mom know I am here?:animwink:

Have any of your posts been modded here yet?? Then nope LOL...

I speak of those who claim you have a hatred for WDW but a love for all Uni, when, well, their comprehension is lacking...

BTW, looks like Uni knocked another one out of the park with its mini golf course....

I thought I posted it here but I guess I didn't...

Universal has recently filed construction plans with South Florida Water Management District for new construction on the former Jaws site... This filing contained detailed plans of several new building constructions which includes a large building (which I assume is Gringott's), the construction requirements for grading of the land, erosion control and utility tie-ins... I did a rough sketch up with labels, and I do mean rough, showing where the new stuff may be.. Looking at the map they filed, I think it makes sense...

There is also a building where the word facade is... I'm going to think that MAYBE the Weasley's store will wind up there and maybe as some sort of walk through attraction... Diagon alley is the narrow alley leading up to Gringott's with Knockturn Alley to the right... I'm guessing here, not saying this is exactly as things will be, but the large building I see as nothing other than the Gringott's ride...

Probably. They have a new night show that needs viewing space.

The show may not even be running by then. The initial version of the show, at least, is geared to Universal's centennial celebration and is only for this year.

I don't think those plans are showing everything.

Source on that first bit? There's no indication that this show is a one year effort... way too much put into this for that. This is the replacement for Universal 360 for the time being as far as I can tell.
