Collider reporting filming for Tron: Ares is set to begin after the holidays.

"Following a suspension in preproduction three months ago, as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike, Collider has learned that shooting on Tron: Ares is set to begin in Vancouver, BC, right after the holidays. The upcoming movie is set to feature Jared Leto in the main role, but specific details about his character haven't been revealed yet. Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan are also part of the cast assembled by director Joachim Rønning."

It would be really fun if they had a weird and very restrictive theater seat you had to fit into in order to see this movie.

They could put a sample seat out in the lobby, and you have to sit in it to see if you qualify to see the movie in that seat.

Then they could put that seat on a rollercoaster track and show clips from the movie as you speed past.

I was never a big tron fan. Enjoyed it, but didn't love it. My 15yr old son on the other hand. Loves it. I had to make a tron costume for him for Halloween. He's been talking about this movie for a long time now. So he's right there with you.

I agree, it better be good or it could be the last major tron anything for a very long time.

Bob doubling down so desperately that even Tron will have a sequel. We were not going to get away with just getting a coaster because.

Like the hatbox. They have to justify it.

It actually even predates that, it was already being kicked around before Legacy was released. Kosinski had pitched ideas to Disney on what was to come next. It was in development for many years, and shelved for a long time until this recent news.

As mentioned above, they had been kicking around sequel ideas even before Legacy was released in 2010. Leto came on-board in 2017. So while synergy is obviously part of Disney's DNA, the clone of Tron in WDW wasn't specifically done for this sequel. As they had shelved the project by the time Tron was announced for WDW. It was seen as dead by many in the industry for a long time until this recent news.

That is exactly the point. It has been pushed multiple ways and has failed many times, including the failed Disney Plus series and Tron Uprising on The Disney Channel.

It is really quite simple. What other attraction has Bob Iger's leadership built that did not involve plans for synergy. Even New Fantasyland was greenlit at a time when remake of classics were in full effect.

You think the 1980s cult following and 2011 forgotten movie was just chosen for no synergy planning at all? The company edict is exactly this.

Because Disney killed it and the TV spin-off after Legacy failed to do the numbers they were hoping for and they decided Star Wars was a more profitable franchise to pursue.

Lets not perpetuate the inevitable revisionist history that Disney was waiting for the right story to come along, or the success of the roller coasters (first pitched before Legacy's release) inspired them to try again.

It has taken this long for TRON 3 to happen because Disney themselves felt the franchise was dead and not a priority.
