Jared Leto confirms new Tron movie!

That is exactly the point. It has been pushed multiple ways and has failed many times, including the failed Disney Plus series and Tron Uprising on The Disney Channel.

It is really quite simple. What other attraction has Bob Iger's leadership built that did not involve plans for synergy. Even New Fantasyland was greenlit at a time when remake of classics were in full effect.

You think the 1980s cult following and 2011 forgotten movie was just chosen for no synergy planning at all? The company edict is exactly this.

Honestly this is all a moot point. No one is saying that the Tron ride in both SDL and WDW aren't for synergy reasons. They obviously build Tron in SDL for synergy, and then cloned in WDW as it was a "cheap" way to add an attraction.

What is being said is that this sequel predates the WDW Tron clone specifically and any recent issues Disney has been having.

Because Disney killed it and the TV spin-off after Legacy failed to do the numbers they were hoping for and they decided Star Wars was a more profitable franchise to pursue.

Lets not perpetuate the inevitable revisionist history that Disney was waiting for the right story to come along, or the success of the roller coasters (first pitched before Legacy's release) inspired them to try again.

It has taken this long for TRON 3 to happen because Disney themselves felt the franchise was dead and not a priority.
Yeah no doubt they "killed it" at the time. There were rumors for years that it was still in various stages of development though, from a direct sequel to Legacy to this Leto lead Ares project. Its why this thread has existed for 3.5 years, along with a couple others.

I was amazed at how poorly done the Tron theming/immersion is in the Tron ride at WDW when years before Disney had created ElecTRONica and truly transported you to the grid.
One is attractions 🤷‍♂️ and one is Live Entertainment ❤️

DCA's Live Entertainment really leveled up starting with ElecTRONica and then Mad T Party. I also love a lot of the shows at Avengers Campus - from the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance-Off! to the holiday Hawkeye stunt show, and smaller but still quality stuff like Five & Dime. I just wish we had more because when they get it right there, they get it SO right - from Minnie's Fly Girls to the Silver Lake Sisters to the Buena Vista Street Community Bell Ringers to Red Car Trolley News Boys to the fantastic Rogers: The Musical (and the late, very missed Aladdin at the Hyperion. But not Frozen. lol)

But yeah, ElecTRONica was terrific - from the theming to the entertainment to Flynn's Arcade! Really hope they bring some of that back for the third film!

Maybe that's the reason they haven't done anything with the Starcade in TL at DL...... ;)

Gillian Anderson has reportedly joined the cast for Tron: Ares.

"Double Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Gillian Anderson has signed on to join the cast of Tron: Ares, the third film in the Tron sci-fi franchise from Disney.

Anderson joins a buzzy cast that includes Jared Leto, Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), and Past Lives breakout Greta Lee. Details of Anderson’s character and the film’s wider plot are currently under wraps, but Disney has confirmed the pic will follow Leto as Ares, a fictional character who crosses over from the world of videogames to planet Earth. If this snippet is to be believed this won't take place in the Grid, but rather primarily in the real world -

"Disney has confirmed the pic will follow Leto as Ares, a fictional character who crosses over from the world of videogames to planet Earth."

So she probably won't have to wear a light suit.

Disney just needs to burn their money in secret and spare themselves the public embarrassment of Tron 3. What are they even doing here?

Go watch American Gods and Hannibal and get back to us. She’s an exceptional actress and still looks fantastic.
Aren’t you one of the people who harp on budgets and box office? She’s not a draw, Tron isn’t a draw. This is a waste of money, pure and simple.

She’s not a draw
Why do you think she's not a draw? She clearly has a fan base.

Tron isn’t a draw.
Why do you think Tron is not a draw? The second one made enough to green light this one, so its clearly a draw to some even if its not for you personally. Heck the sound track alone would be enough to bring people back if they could get Daft Punk to re-unite.

Its Disney's money to "waste". I rather this than another live action reimagining.
