N'awlins.

Stick to the tourist spots if you don't speak Creole!

It's like Geechee and Gullah in SC / GA...

And...now I crave some grits...with shrimp of course!

Tracey's possibly gonna get put on a project over in Vacherie next year. We're crossing our fingers, toes, eeeeeverything! That'd be flippin' awesome to be down close to our friends in Des Allemands & Raceland.

One Little Spark...

Good luck. I love New Orleans, though parts of it...are not tourist friendly.

I haven't been back since Katrina...but I did take on Katrina refugees at my stores (our company relocated them, paying for hotel and a per diam and putting them to work at other SE based stores) Even though they were near minimum wage...it never made the news, but when a giant corporation does something good for near minimum wage employees, it never does...

The state though (LA) has a fantastic culture around the coast. I'd love to live there for a while...but I'm not sure I'd want to settle there! For one reason...the politics.

I can understand Geechee and Gullah...Creole still baffles me though (my French isn't that good!)

Vacherie you say. That's about 15 minutes north of me,@sweetpee_1993. I live in Thibodaux now but grew up on the BESTBANK. Don't really miss it though. Too much crime to raise babies around. Thibodaux is a lot like Marrero was about 30 years ago. Quiet, peaceful little town, has seen an influx since Katrina though. Love the north shore. It's so nice up there. Plenty of family now live there since Katrina.

I'm crossing my fingers for the Vacherie job. I'd love to be back there. We have a friend from Thibodaux. Well, I say he's a friend. He was one of Tracey's friends but I never cared for him much. We lived in Kenner in '96, LaPlace from '96-'99. We were in Abita Springs from '99-'00. Our first house we ever bought was in Covington out Bootlegger Rd. in '01. That's where we were until after Katrina. The influx of people coming out of the city drove our property values sky high. Where can you buy a cheap little starter house, live in it for 4 years, then sell it for $60k more than you paid???? That doesn't happen! It was insane! When we bought out there the only thing at the Hwy 21 exit was a gas station and the miniature McDonalds which was brand new. It was all woods out there. My, how THAT area has exploded! If money were no object we'd love to live in Madisonville. We love the Northshore. Miss it so bad. I can honestly say one thing we've regretted from the morning we woke up to go down to the title company and close the sale, it was selling our little house in Covington. That house was tiny but it was perfect. We adored it. I'll never forget that morning we were going to sign it away. We both laid there on our little air mattress on the living room floor cuddled up crying our eyes out. We so didn't want to do it. LOL!

Mrs. Skellington: Were you living in New Orleans when the Commodore Cruise Line was sailing from the River Walk terminal ? I went on one of their 7 day Western Caribbean cruises. That ship was small by cruise ship standards. Later on I took a 3 day cruise on the Commodore's sister ships, The Enchanted Capri, which was even smaller. Uggg...I got seasick on that trip because the smaller ship rocked so much.:hungover:

Oops, I was writing this, and missed seeing your post that you've lived on the Westbank all of your life...so you probably remember when the Commodore was here for a while.

whats ur ladies cruise itinerary look like?

Like @sweetpee_1993 said, all of our itineraries are different, even on the cruise! We're arriving on the7th and staying 1 night at the Poly. We're not doing the big group dinner at 1900 as we already have ADR's at Garden Grill. Sunday the 8th we are part of the group taking the limo to port! Our day in Nassau myself and my traveling companions are doing the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Swim. At Castaway Cay, we are doing the cabanas with the other gals. Definitely doing the mixology class, whenever that may be!! No special dining planned on our part, just going to enjoy the regular dining rooms, which I've heard are delicious. When we get off the cruise we are going to Bay Lake Tower for 3 nights and doing the parks for 3 1/2 days. We have some ADR's which include Via Napoli, Kona Cafe for breakfast, Ohana, Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch and a surprise dinner at Hollywood Brown Derby to celebrate my mother's retirement. We are doing MNSSHP on the 13th and we fly home the 15th! :) Definietly a fun filled week for sure!! There will be LOTS of TR's and I'm excited to read all of them because even though we will all be on the cruise together, all our reports will be different! :)

I did grow up on the West Bank but I have not lived there in 17 years. I moved after I joined the army. When I got out I came back briefly but then went to college and met my hubby in Thibodaux. Been here ever since. :)
We still visit regularly but I could not see raising children around the city.

Sign up & meet info will be in the Navigator. When we did it 2 years ago we just met at the starting spot at like 8:45. I think now they meet on the ship then everyone goes out on the island together. It'll start between 8:30 & 9:00. No, you don't have to run. Its very informal. Its a fun run type thing. I prob'ly won't do it. I've done it before. So hot. I'll get my exercise on before I leave the ship if I do anything extra that day. Snorkeling & biking will be good exercise!

I think since we've never done it before, we will give it a go! My mom has been doing the Couch to 5k training, so I think it'll be cool for her as she's never done a 5k before. What better place to run your first 5k than in paradise! ;)

I am going to give this a try, too. I am not a hard core runner, but I go out from time to time just to mix up my routine. It will also make me feel slightly less guilty about my anticipated indulgences.

Same here! Sister and I ran the Tower of Terror 10 Miler last year. that was our first and (so far) only race ever. I think adding in the CC 5k would be good! :)

Will we have to go back to the ship after to change? Or is there a way to bring our bathing suits with us? Not sure if there would even be any place to change on the island anyway!

You can go back to the ship if you want but you don't have to. It's really not far at all. Luckily the cabanas are pretty close to the start/end of the 5k. Also, there's a wooden box right by the start/stop point that I think you can put a bag in.

I may get up early on CC day and go for a power walk. My right knee is still not entirely well. I'm thinking maybe my running days are done. Getting old sucks. I still don't regret playing football in my younger years. Rolling around with boys in dirt and wow'ing 'em with my killer arm was sooooooo worth every moment!
