I know that we're probably going to pay off our Disney trip this year with our tax return. Anyone else going to use their tax money to pay off their trip to the World this year????

between tax returns and refunds from student loans is 75% of how we will be paying off our trip!! The rest...flight, 25% and spending cash will come from all the yummy cakes and goodies we make and sell!!!!!

Uh, no. What we would love to spend on a nice trip is likely gonna be handed over to Uncle Sam's greedy little paws. He won't see a nickel, tho, until the last possible moment. :D

Just a reminder -It's not really Uncle Sam paying for that - it's just you overpaying him, and him gladly holding onto your money all year at 0% interest. Seems to me there's a better way....

We gladly over pay thru out the year to make sure we dont have to pay him on April 15th...yes we gain no instest on the money but its a nice chuck of change we know we will get to pay for vacation. Been doing it this way for a long time...works for us and thats all that matters.

Uncle Sam is giving back my hard earned money soon, but it will go toward my daughter's education. She would prefer that we use it toward WDW, but Mom and Dad know best.

We debated these 2 approaches a couple years ago. I like the nice chunk handed to me. It's easy & safe. Now that I've learned to be better with saving I've enjoyed the fruits of earning 5% on my own money so we generally try to balance it out as closely as possible with our deductions. Of course this year has been a fiasco for us tax-wise. Hubby was out of work a couple months then his 1st job opportunity was a 1099 gig. He only worked that for 8 weeks or so but it was also 7/10's. We're fairly certain Uncle Sam is gonna take us to the cleaners & stick it to us good. What can ya do? At least we got to draw the interest, right?

I'm certainly counting on it although I'm worried because I almost reached my limit for the EIC. I think I'm only like 1-2k below it. Married, with 2 children and I think the cap is like 44k.

Hahaha I NEVER get a refund. But according to my accountant, there is no reason I should. You are simply giving Uncle Sam an interest-free loan. Always owe a little bit.

No, our $500 a year payback to the gov starts this year for buying our first house in 2008. Of course who knew if we waited until the next year it would have been more $ and never had to be paid back?

Yep... it is YOUR money that "Uncle Sam" is giving back to you. You are giving the government an interest free loan plus the lost opportunity cost of that money. I agree that there is a better way... it's called manage your withholdings better.

"Uncle Sam" has never given me a dime for anyting.

In the grand sum he has taken from me plenty more than he has given back.

Having said that, I do get a refund each year. Nothing earth shattering. I don't pay extra through the years just to get a refund, but I also don't like having tax bills. I keep it close.

On the other hand, rumor is that company compensable metrics look pretty good for 2010. So my job may be paying for that July Disney Cruise this year.

Just finished my taxes yesterday, only to find out that they cannot be filed(or accepted by the IRS) until mid-Feb at the earliest. All because it took Congress way to long to realize that the Bush era tax cuts are a good thing. So it looks like now I'll have to wait until March to get "reimbursed" for our trip next week.

"Uncle Sam" paid for my annual passes and 2 trips this past yr and has for the past 3 yrs but this yr I am paying off my trucks so I have an extra $500 a month to spend on my cruise in the fall with no interst paid..lol... Plus with an rxtra $500 a month I can actually do work on the house that has suffered due to my Disney Additition. :ROFLOL:Oh well there is always next yr.. I have been 8 times in 3 1/2 yrs so I think I did pretty good. Take a year off ( with some shopping via phone at Disney) and i will be hopefully set to buy my DVC in the spring of 2012.:D:sohappy:
