Is this really a thing or is it April 1ST? Cabanas in the parks.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.
Totally agree. If Disney wants to create this type of venue on rooftops, I don't care. But when Disney starts taking away from the average guest's experience in favor of an up sell, it's disappointing. I'm talking about things like the train station and the riverboat.
The train station has become an upcharge event now ?

What I do not understand is this push for "customized and personalized" vacations? They need to go back to the basics
Preach.

I thought that customizing and personalizing was exemplified in the freedom of choosing your length of stay, your resort, where you eat, what you eat, what packages if any you purchase, what tickets to purchase, what souvenirs if any you'd like to purchase, I could go on. Guess I'm old fashioned :banghead:

I am sorry but my comment was meant to be a sarcastic jab at the current WDW management approach to generating dollars. Assuming they were purchased from some retailer with an extended holiday return policy ( pretty sure they were not) - WDW could decide to return them for a full refund even though they were used ( I don't know how extensively). This would be like returning clothes after you have worn them but not removing the tags. Would current WDW management do that? You can decide for yourself.

Ah. Got it.

Though the question is in jest, a straight answer for what they'll do with the cabanas is that upcharging for poolside cabanas is a long-time thing and they can go poolside to a deluxe resort or to one of the water parks.

Honestly, I never knew they were taken for exclusive viewing opportunities. Must have missed that thread ;)

I know they've had those benches reserved for quite some time. And distinctly remember a certain poster loudly complaining to anyone who would listen that it just wasn't fair that SHE paid $3000 for a VIP tour and had to share the space with the lowly unwashed who had only paid $600 for the TL cabanas.

But I suppose it's within the realm of possibilities that AJH happened to be there on a day when no one cared to shell out that much cash- a no VIP day.

I remember that post It was pretty absurd.
I hope on my next visit, I hit a no VIP day. I miss sitting at the train station. :grumpy:

“A word may be said in regard to the concept and conduct of Disneyland’s operational tone. Although various sections will have the fun and flavor of a carnival or amusement park, there will be none of the ‘pitches,’ game wheels, sharp practices, and devices designed to milk the visitor’s pocketbook.” – Walt Disney

Well, current management has certainly adhered to that practice......

They need to paint the tents in the infamous green color so they can go unnoticed.

I notice the infamous green color all the time... especially when they open the pass through over to Tomorrowland.

Orlando Sentinel newspaper update as of Monday, Jan 16. Business Section, by Sandra Pedicini.
"Magic Kingdom Cabanas Ending.
Walt Disney World is pulling the plug on its pricey private cabanas in the Magic Kingdom. The cabanas introduced in November will no longer be available after Feb. 17. Disney originally rented out the upscale shaded structures near Space Mountain for almost $700. The price later dropped to $500. Disney described that as a seasonal change. The cabanas include lockable storage, charging stations, sunscreen and insect repellent, water and soft drinks, and food. A Disney spokeswoman said the cabanas had been planned as a test to run through mid-February."

I'm wondering if these were only meant to be seasonal from the beginning. Especially given the fact that they didn't have AC. Maybe just see how the response was during the holidays and then decide if permanent ones would be needed or if there isn't enough interest to justify it.

Yes. That is why they were impermanent tents. They wanted to test this idea out and if it is successful build new ones that would be permanent and themed to the surroundings. So, the stupid tents are going away as was always intended.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the tents come out for peak times for the next year or two till the permanent ones are built, but that depends on how popular the tents were. The concept of cabanas in the parks could be over with entirely now if the tents weren't successful.
