Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

They have to be dismantling versus tearing apart. 30 minutes with a hack-saw and I could have taken out all of those swirly things. If they continue to work like this, they will certainly have the option of putting it back together elsewhere.
Agreed. They're likely going to take out all of the electrical systems for the exterior lights first and the infrastructure for the pin store. Then it'll focus on the bigger stuff.

No inside info, just a logical progression. So take my info as the grain of salt it is. ;)

Another photo on @jakeadventures The spiral is nearly gone

Looks like they are going slowly for now. I think they will get these golden spirals out of the way over the course of the race weekend and then bring in the crane for "hat proper" removal beginning Sunday night/Monday.

Love how you can see the GMR sign through the ear!

This makes sense hope your right!

The problem with removing the Hollywood sign at this point is it's basically an historical landmark. I could see disney recreating it for DHS and in the process hiding a large show building under said fake hill but realistically I don't see it happening.

Disney Studios Paris already has a Hollywood sign as its weenie.

As reported. Visual to show y'all that more of the spiral thingy beneath the hat has been removed and trees have also been removed. You can now see more of the GMR behind the hat!

I agree they are probably waiting until the marathon is done to go to town at getting rid of the hat.

***Photo also shows that in previous discussions…the spires of the chinese theatre are missing. No idea how long they've been gone!

Since the Hat when up. The second one from the right is retractable, though. It's just hidden in the building. Thanks, Sorcery in the Sky!

It looks so bare without the trees behind the hat. Now, it's an absolute the hat must go.

Forgive me- I didn't know the theatre had spires :(

Swell joke! =D

I do think that there is a rather peculiar idealisation of Eisner, and simultaneous demonisation of Iger. The Hat was installed by Eisner, left standing by Eisner, but is removed under Iger, the man who has done so much to repair Eisner's mess.
I don't think there is a correlation between who is CEO and whether the hat stands or not. Not to mention if Iger was indeed pushing for the Hats removal why is it happening 10 years into his tenure as CEO?

I've been to DSP and I found the Hollywood sign there to be so tacky….actually I found the entire park to be quite tacky. It looks fake….we aren't talking movie-set-fake….we're talking "we tried to make it look like hollywood, but failed" fake. #budgetcuts

The whole studios park in Paris looks like a budget version of other parks. Although CineMagique is fantastic.

I am not a fan of the Hollywood sign backdrop, to me it seems too cheesy and too much LA and not enough Disney. Would love to see the earful tower get moved up either to the entrance, or perhaps somewhere else to give it more visibility.

I do admit that as lame as the Flying Carpets are in general, I do like how each one has it's own identity and as tacky as it is, the loose "Genie's directing a movie" conceit of the Paris version is kinda clever.

I agree that the Earful Tower should move to the park entrance. Similarly to what was done with the Earful Tower at Disney Studios Paris.

In the 80s and 90s, the Earful Tower made perfect sense being on the MGM Backlot because it was still a working studio. A lot of people don't understand that's a huge party of the story as to why the water tower, the park's symbol, is in the back of the park, because like a real working studio, which it was, water towers were on the lot. The Chinese Theatre was a focal point for the Hollywood section of the park, it was never the symbol of the entire park like the Earful Tower was/is.

Now that the working studio concept is dead, and the backlot will more than likely become something else, why not move the tower toward the entrance. It holds no water.

Here's a quick comp I did.

And what the entrance to DSP looks like.
