Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

I agree that the Earful Tower should move to the park entrance. Similarly to what was done with the Earful Tower at Disney Studios Paris.

In the 80s and 90s, the Earful Tower made perfect sense being on the MGM Backlot because it was still a working studio. A lot of people don't understand that's a huge party of the story as to why the water tower, the park's symbol, is in the back of the park, because like a real working studio, which it was, water towers were on the lot. The Chinese Theatre was a focal point for the Hollywood section of the park, it was never the symbol of the entire park like the Earful Tower was/is.

Now that the working studio concept is dead, and the backlot will more than likely become something else, why not move the tower toward the entrance. It holds no water.

Here's a quick comp I did.

And what the entrance to DSP looks like.

It could look nice in front of the entrance. Just like the Universal Globe and Pharos Lighthouse in UOR.

I've been to DSP and I found the Hollywood sign there to be so tacky….actually I found the entire park to be quite tacky. It looks fake….we aren't talking movie-set-fake….we're talking "we tried to make it look like hollywood, but failed" fake. #budgetcuts

It's no DisneySea, but to be fair on them they have improved it quite a lot in the last few years, and with all the cutbacks at DHS there's really not much difference between the two parks now in terms of quality.

Wasn't that part of the plan when they were building Rock N Roller Coaster back in the 90's. I seem to remember a concept was to hide that show building inside a Hollywood Hills facade.

Yep there were some concepts around the Hollywood Hills, but I don't recall if it was for RnR or another attraction.

This was the first piece of concept art that emerged for RnR, fairly close to what we got.

If the new theme won't be a "studios" theme, what's the big deal about the water tower? How would the water tower even be relevant? Maybe I'm missing something. I don't get it.

I can't imagine that there won't still be a "studios" presence in the park (with at the very least Pixar Studios comprising one of the lands), but that the entire park won't be named as a singular studio. While the Earful Tower isn't a perfect icon for "Disney Hollywood Adventure", the iconography of a studio's water tower would still very much work with that name.

As reported. Visual to show y'all that more of the spiral thingy beneath the hat has been removed and trees have also been removed. You can now see more of the GMR behind the hat!

I agree they are probably waiting until the marathon is done to go to town at getting rid of the hat.

***Photo also shows that in previous discussions…the spires of the chinese theatre are missing. No idea how long they've been gone!

Looks like all of the pin shop stuff is gone, too. (I don't think the wall is quite tall enough to hide the side shelves if they were still there)

Thanks. That makes sense. I just remember hearing idea of that "Hollywood Adventure" and things like that, and all the talk just seemed like the theme would be more "Hollywood" and the "studio" thing would be abandoned. That's why I was confused. But I see what you mean.

Millions of people like that are why the resort has slipped so far
To be fair, it's not their fault. Most of these people are young i'd say about 18-22 (and anyone younger) and don't know the park without the hat there. They've only ever seen the hat. Basically the typical DCP CM.

They feel like part of their childhood is being taken from them.

They don't realize the amazing view that lies behind that turd.

I get that. I do. If you ask me I'd tell you id rather have mission to Mars in tomorrowland than Stitch, but objectively I can understand why on some level Stitch is better. Barely.

There are plenty who have known nothing else but recognize that the view as making no sense.

But for everyone of those that realize it there's 10 waiting to jump down your throat for suggesting it should come down. Trust me, i've been down this road.

I want it to come down as much as anyone else. It makes no sense, but it could just be as simple as memories of coming to the park and seeing it there that people get attached too. They don't want to see these things go, even when they make little sense.
