Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

Thus, I would not like the hat phased out of existence, but put in front of Cinderella's castle, because, in the name of all that is holy, I can't even begin to imagine or comprehend the amount of entertainment I would get from this message board if that were to happen.

In fairness the filling of those plots of land depended a great deal more on countries being willing to cough up a few million to finance their pavilion. No sponsors no pavilion. That's how a worlds fair would work.

No sponsors when built, yet there they stand. Disney as a company now doesn't need sponsorships. They're more than capable of doing things themselves. The only reason we don't have new countries is because they don't want to do it.

I'm not going to argue the point, but, that is the first that I have heard that China and Canada didn't pay at least a portion of the cost to build it. What would be Disney's motivation to promote either country, no charge? This is especially true when you think about the era that EPCOT was built. This was a huge money sucking venture for the Disney Company and almost destroyed them. So why?

Only Norway and Morocco ever had the actual countries sponsoring the pavilions. You've bought into the contemporary lie of sponsorship. Sponsorship was about enabling a pre-established vision, not the all-or-nothing concept you describe.

Does anyone besides my self find it amusing that after all this time waiting for it to be removed, now that it actually looks like it's going, now we can complain about the fact that it has been closed for 2 days and it's not gone yet. It's so entertaining.

I can't speak for other's but I am not complaining just questioning what they are doing with the BAH. My gut tells me that if they where demolishing the hat it should be moving slightly quicker. Why take apart the gold swirls when you could easily cut them down. I feel that the way they are disassembling the panels from the frames in this pic, is telling about how they plan to remove the BAH, as in very carefully. As we saw with the wand they just took a torch to the sucker and down she came. This, it seems, they are taking it apart piece by piece.

Until we can either see a close up and tell if the inner panels are cut out or unbolted it will be hard to tell what is going on here. The other option is to see what she looks like tomorrow, it will be clear in the next few days if we have a demo or a disassembly. If its the later idk what that means. Just my 2 cents

Historically, even when they demolish something they salvage whatever they can from it. Which I think is something they should do. I think we would all be amazed at how many things that we see now were re-cycled from something we used to see on other now dead attractions. All loose things that can be reused has to come out first. All electrical and plumbing items have to be completely taken out and in the case of electrical nothing exists that could possible electrocute workers or anyone else. Shelving, desk tops anything breakable the can cause harm or isn't an attached part of the building structure must be removed. For salvage purposes materials have to be taken out in a manner that would allow recycling metal, plastics, etc. They also have to try and insure the there is limited damage to the surrounding area. There is way more to demolition then just knocking the building down. Would be nice, but, not reality.

In the meantime, have a little patience even with the torch working on the hand it took months to remove. And that one didn't have a lot of related parts. There was the steel structure, the hand, some electrical. This has all kinds of materials used to build it. It's only been two days.

Just my guess, but could they be going slow so they don't damage the Chinese Theatre which just got a new sponsor, TCM? Maybe TCM told them to go slow. Could TCM even do that?

Also I think they have to make sure they don't damage the foundation supports that are embedded in the concrete base. Those will most likely be used to support the new icon that will take the place of the BAH.

It depends on materials and construction techniques. Fiberglass parts being cut would just send nasty dust out into the surrounding air.

Ok that makes sense. I thought they where metal but if they where some type of composite that makes sense.

It still baffles me that people think a new icon is being constructed.... They are returning to the original Hollywood Blvd view. End of story. At most it'll be a permanent platform for a stage area. Or a planter like it originally was.

Agreed
