Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

So if it does turn out - as suggested above, that the hat isn't going to be replaced, but the area will be used for a series of temporary inflatable icons, that could be a nice solution. It sounds like the approach used on the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square in London where for ages people wondered what would be built, and eventually they just used it for rotating art sculptures, never there for more than a few months at a time.

If Disney used the area to promote the big summer/winter movies with big balloons, then took them down after a couple of months so that the theater was the view most of the time, I could live with that, and the hatites would like it too, so if they *have* to put something there other than flowerbeds and benches, that does sound like the most bearable option I've heard so far.
For some reason... whenever I hear "temporary icon & hollywood studios" now, I seem to feel a bit nauseous :depressed:

I think lots of the hat defenders don't realize how much it ruins the false perspective and careful planning. I don't think they care, of course, but that's a different issue.

That might be true for some of the hat defenders. I do think some of us, just liked the hat. I know that is a bad thing to say, but I know I liked the hat. Did I like it's location, no...but as a Disney fan and as a Mickey fan, that hat is iconic. It will be good to see it leave for all the billions of reasons given on this forum, but I think sometimes some of the criticism given to those who support that hat is not nice (not the case in this post). I think the OP point is right on, and that to me is the best argument and always has been for the removal of the hat.

I really wish they'd put a tarp over the hand this morning. That is really poor show.

While I don't want to derail us into what is acceptable or not... I hear your point. You'd think Disney would screen this off more given their normal practices. There might be practical reasons (the timeline...) but it is a bit out of character for them.

All that said though, I like this so we can get the best view possible of the work :D I can't help but think some of the people in charge are just happy to finally have the blessing to do this so they are willing to turn a blind eye to these show matters in their eagerness to just rid themselves of the BAH.

wait... you mean Iger & Scrooge McDuck aren't the same person?!?!
could have fooled me!
Scrooge made his money by being tougher then the toughies, smarter then the smarters, and doing things fair. He traveled the world trying things and not giving up.

Iger's more like John D Rockerduck: Inherited his station of life and focuses on buying expensive stuff

Someone may have mentioned this already but it looks like the notion of the hat being reused somewhere else can be disregarded. Referring to the photos, they are clearly cutting the hat down regardless of structure underneath. They would have to fabricate a completely new understructure and outer shell if it were going to be relocated and doubt that money would be spent.

They definitely don't need to put up a fancy printed scrim like those from the Main Street facade refurbishments, but a simple black or white tarp would definitely do a world of good for those "once in a lifetime" visitors to the park.

Does anyone else find themselves pointing at the BAH on their screen and laughing hysterically?

Cause it's making me giddy to see this thing be destroyed. And to those who are yapping that it's taking too long... NOPE, it's destruction should be slow and painful....

That is the Disney mantra for everything: Painfully Slow
