Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

the Epcot Memorial is a legacy to those lost wallets, wallets that were sadistically murdered to set up some ugly stones and mugs in the walkway.

:hilarious:

Why did they paint the sorting hat blue?

Because by using Disney's standard.. everyone would be a hufflepuff at Disney.

I am too suprised how many people on Facebook are devastated at the removal of big blue. I've felt like an outsider most of the time saying its outlived its welcome.
Lots of annoying comments though; why are they removing it? But it's an icon! What will be replacing it? What will be the park icon now? Where will I take my annual picture? But now my kids will never get to see it.
Ugh.
And I don't think I have a single picture infront of it... lol.

No surprise there, as in general most people using Facebook are the generation of Park visitors that have only ever known the Hat at the Studios.
They were likely too young to remember when the end of Hollywood Blvd. looked any different, so to them this is a big deal.

The BAH was there for 14 years.
That is almost two generations of kids-now-teens-or-twentysomethings that have never associated the Earful Tower or the Chinese Theater with the Studios, let alone ever seen the Park Hat-less.

Now THAT is surprising.....and saddening all at once!

For those who can't see it at work...

My luck it'll still be coming down the last week of February. We'll have matching pictures!

They have to be dismantling versus tearing apart. 30 minutes with a hack-saw and I could have taken out all of those swirly things. If they continue to work like this, they will certainly have the option of putting it back together elsewhere.

It's a valid point but they are held in place with concrete. The only other thing I can think of is they removed the Lower fencing to knock out the concrete covering the mounting brackets.

Sadly, even a lot of Disney people don't know or remember it was a temporary installation.

An astonishing thought to consider. =D

Still, temporaryness in itself is not sufficient to want something ended, or not. The little railroad display next to WS Germany was meant to be temporary, and blissfully it stuck. (Although it is not all that great either). The monorail topiaries of old were meant to be temporary, then stuck around for ages, and now their ultimate demise is regretted to this day.

And WDW is not just plagued by temporary presence of things, but also, much more so, by temporary absense of things. The empty stretches along the MK Railroad were meant to be temporary, and after forty-three years there is still no sign on any Grand (Canyon) Diorama. The empty plots of land in WS are temporary, but will we ever see a new country (without IP tie-in)?

Again if they are trying to save it then your right this may be the necessary step. But if its going the way of the wand a cutting torch should be all that is nessary to get those gold things down. They are not supporting anything from what I can see and would be very easy to bring down in a few hours, or a night depending on where you had to cut for safety...

aw hell gimmie one of these, well have it removed from its supports in a day...

In fairness the filling of those plots of land depended a great deal more on countries being willing to cough up a few million to finance their pavilion. No sponsors no pavilion. That's how a worlds fair would work.

Does anyone besides my self find it amusing that after all this time waiting for it to be removed, now that it actually looks like it's going, now we can complain about the fact that it has been closed for 2 days and it's not gone yet. It's so entertaining.

Correct my dear friend. Plus, removing something just because it was temporary goes against the very nature of existence. Are the Himalayas not temporary and slowly being ground down to dust? Are we not each and everyone just buying time on this small, unimportant orb until we can return to the stardust from whence we came? I would not like to be removed from being merely because my presence on this planet is not only temporary, but probably over half over at my current age (my age and the fact my diet consists of nothing but Fritos covered in chicken gravy).

Thus, I would not like the hat phased out of existence, but put in front of Cinderella's castle, because, in the name of all that is holy, I can't even begin to imagine or comprehend the amount of entertainment I would get from this message board if that were to happen.
